Volume 5:

Chapter 11: Jedi Training

Back on Ahch-To….

We see Chewie sitting in front of a campfire with Breha, King, and Lola.

Chewie was about to eat a roasted Porg on a stick, which Breha had given him an earful about.

When he turned around to see a few porgs staring at him.

He growled, scaring all but one away.

This one's starts to give him big sad eyes.

Chewie growls at him, making it fly away, but now Chewie can't bring himself to eat the meal he had cooked.

Breha snickered as she held the Porg Ani had found. She called him; Thumper.

But then she noticed her uncle slipping into the Falcon.

We then see Luke as he wanders around the Falcon.

It was as if a thousand sights and smells had returned him to when he was a young farm boy on his first adventure.

He had a very sad and lonely look on his face.

But that's when he heard a familiar beep.

Luke asked in shock, "Artoo?"

Luke saw his old friend move towards him.

Luke said in joy, "Artoo!"

Luke knelt down to his old friend, smiling at the little droid he had gone on so many adventures with.

"Yes. Yes I know", Luke said.

Artoo beeped.

"Hey, it's a sacred island, watch the language. Old friend", Luke said, "I wish I could make you understand. But I'm not coming back. Nothing can change my mind."

That's when Artoo began playing a recording of Leia. The one Luke had seen so long ago. The message that kick-started his journey.

Luke muttered, "that was a cheap move."

"But an effective one."

Luke turned to see Finn of all people standing there.

Luke asked, "how long were you standing there?"

Finn said, "about a minute…."

Luke sighed as he stood up.

Finn said, "your brother really needs you…. That's why he sent us here…. He believes in you…."

Luke closed his eyes in sadness at the mention of Sam.

Finn sat by the chess table and said, "everyone in your family spoke highly of ya."

"I can imagine", Luke said.

Finn said, "it…. It made me want to become better…. To help stop the First Order…."

"I can see where you are going…. You want to learn the ways of the force", Luke said.

Finn nodded and said, "I…. I've felt something in me…. Something that awakened…."

"Your connection to the force", Luke said

Finn nodded and said, "it doesn't feel that strong yet…. But I think that's because I don't have training yet."

"I have made my decision", Luke said.

Finn raised an eyebrow as Luke walked past him. He followed him to where Ani and Rey were. The two were sleeping on separate cots. They woke up and looked at Luke.

Luke explained, "tomorrow at dawn. I will teach Rey and Finn the ways of the Jedi. And why I think they need to end. And when you understand, you will all leave me alone on this planet to die."

Ani gave a solemn nod at his uncle's words.

And with that, Luke left the three of them alone.

….

Meanwhile back with the Resistance….

Larma D'acy was addressing everyone.

She said, "General Organa…. Leia…. Is unconscious but recovering. This is the only good news I have. Most of our leaders are gone."

C3-P0 said, "oh, dear, oh, dear."

Sam pats C3-P0 on the back.

"And to that end…. The chain of command is clear as to who should take her place. Admiral Ackbar", Larma said.

Ackbar said, "thank you, Commander. There are four hundred of us on three ships. We're the very last of the Resistance. But we're not alone. The New Republic is here to help us. This Resistance will survive. We are currently working on a plan of escape. We plan on using the last remaining transports to get away, using the ship as a decoy. But we'll need some form of distraction to do so. Someone to sneak on board the First Order ship, and shut down their trackers long enough for us to escape. When a team is assembled, you will be notified. To your stations. And may the Force be with you."

As everyone scattered, Poe ran up to Ackbar and asked, "Admiral, are you sure this plan of yours will work?"

Ackbar said, "it is our only plan that will limit casualties. But we need a group to send off to find a way onto the Star Destroyer."

"I and Poe can lead the group", Padme said.

Ackbar asked, "what group?"

The two pilots smirked.

….

Near the escape pods, we see Collin looking over one with BB-4 and HK-50 with him.

But that's when they hear a voice say, "what are you doing here? You're…."

Collin turns and blushes at the sight of the young woman in front of him.

This is Rose Tico.

Paige's sister.

"Hey, hi. Uh, I was…. Uh, you know….", Collin stutterd.

Rose said, "wait…. You're Collin Skywalker?!"

Collin asked, "you know me?"

Rose said, "sorry... I work behind pipes all day. Doing, er, talking with the Resistance heroes is not my forte. Doing…. Doing, er, talking, yeah…. I'm Rose."

"Breathe", Collin said.

"Okay", Rose said.

HK-50 was about to comment, but BB-4 nudged him.

Collin said, "yeah, look I'm not a Resistance hero. I'm just a guy trying to help others. But…. It was nice talking to you, Rose. May the Force be with you."

"Wow. You too. Good. But you are a hero", Rose said to Collin.

Collin said modestly, "I consider everyone in the Resistance a hero. We're all just trying to do the right thing. All I'm trying to do is make sure my brother and his friends get back to us."

Collin then heard his comlink beep.

He answered it with, "hello?"

"Collin we need you now", Padme said.

Collin said, "I'm on my way."

The call ended as Collin looked at Rose.

He said, "um…."

"Go on", Rose said.

Collin asked, "would you like to come?"

Rose blushed and said, "s-sure."

Rose then began to follow Collin.

….

Soon, Collin, Rose and the droids meet up with Padme and Poe.

Collin asked, "what did you call me for?"

Padme said, "the Resistance needs us to go on an important mission."

Poe said, "the First Order can track us through light speed. And thus, it needs a team to sneak onto their main Star Destroyer to destroy the tracker."

Collin asked, "and we are the team that is sneaking on board that ship?"

Padme said, "that's the whole kit and kaboodle. Finn gave us a lot of info about those ships. BB-4 has the info stored in her systems."

BB-4 beeped as she rolled around.

Collin said, "if we can sneak on board the Lead Star Destroyer and disable the tracker without getting caught…."

Rose finished, "they won't realize it's off for one system cycle, about six minutes!"

Collin said, "that buys the Resistance fleet enough time for the transports to escape to the hidden base undetected!"

Poe asked, "how did you two meet?"

Collin said, "just luck."

Poe asked, "yeah? Good luck?"

"Not sure yet", Rose said.

"We've got to do this. It will save the fleet", Collin said.

C3-P0 was standing near Leia and said, "if I must be the sole voice of reason, I am not sure if Admiral Ackbar will approve of this plan."

Poe, "oh I'm sure Ackbar will."

Padme said, "and if not, my dad's will…."

C3-P0 said, "that was not exactly-"

Collin asked, "you sure about that Padme?"

Padme said, "when have they ever said no to us?"

Collin shrugged and said, "true."

Padme said, "alright…. We're gonna shut down that tracker. I'll let the others know about the plan. The question is…. How do we sneak onto Malaki's destroyer?"

Rose asked, "we steal clearance codes?"

Poe said, "no, Finn said they're Bio-Hexaencripted and rescrambled every hour. We can't get through their security shields undetected. Nobody can…."

Collin said, "well, there is someone who could help….

Poe asked, "who?"

Padme and Collin smirked at one another.

….

Polly sat on an engine as she said, "could I do it? Of course I could do it. But it ain't gonna be easy…."

Padme asked, "what do you mean Polly?"

Polly said, "well, my codebreaking equipment ain't exactly the most advanced. I need some new equipment in order to get you guys on the ship."

Collin asked, "where can we get this new equipment?"

Polly said, "the best place to find it is Naboo."

"Naboo", Poe said.

Padme said, "that's where our grandma was born."

Poe asked, "oh yeah, I remember reading about that, but is it safe to go to Naboo?"

Collin said, "yeah, it is. Our family goes there every summer."

"Well then let's do it", Poe said.

The others nodded.

"May the force be with you all", Polly said.

….

We see Rey and Ani slowly wake up…. In each other's arms!

They went wide-eyed and blushed as they moved away from one another.

Rey thought, 'why do I keep doing that'?

Ani cleared his throat and said, "er…. Sorry…."

The two sat up as…. They suddenly felt something….

Ani asked, "do you feel that too?"

"Yes", Rey said.

….

Kylo Ren was sitting at a table, having the wound on his face sealed so it wouldn't be as noticeable.

That's when he felt something as well.

….

Rey quickly pulled out Han's blaster and shot right in front of her.

….

Kylo looked down at his chest in shock, but nothing was there!

….

The connection ends for a moment as Rey and Ani see the hole in the hut Rey had created.

They quickly ran out, and somehow saw Kylo Ren there. They could see him, but not his location.

Kylo Ren then turned to glare at the two. He could see them, but not where they were.

Kylo growled, "you'll bring Luke Skywalker to me."

Ani and Rey didn't even flinch from what Kylo tried to do.

Kylo said, "you're not doing this. The effort would kill you. Can you see my surroundings?"

Rey hissed, "you're gonna pay for what you did!"

Kylo said, "I can't see yours. Just you. So no. This is something else."

Ani growled, "I don't care what it is. I can't stand to see you after what you did to Uncle Han!"

They suddenly heard Luke say, "what's that about?"

Rey and Owen turned to the old Jedi, but when they turned back to Ren, he was gone.

They looked to the hole to see two weird crab-like aliens trying to fix it.

"I was cleaning my blaster. It went off", Rey said.

Ani said, "I, er; keep telling her to put the safety on."

Luke said, "let's get started."

As they began to walk off, Rey asked, "what were those things?"

Luke replied, "caretakers. Island natives. They've kept up the Jedi structures since they've been built."

Ani said, "I don't think they like us."

Luke said, "I can't imagine why. Come on, Finn's already at the meeting place…."

Ani, and Rey began to follow Luke.

….

Later, we find Luke and Ani standing by Rey and Finn as they sit on a square cut stone.

Breha was a little further away, so as to not disturb the training.

But even from that distance, they could feel that something was about to go down.

Rey said, "Master Skywalker, we need you to bring the Jedi. Kylo Ren is strong with the dark side of the Force."

Finn said, "he'll be unstoppable at this rate."

Luke asked Rey and Finn, "what do you two know about the force?"

Rey said, "only a little. It's a power that Jedi have that lets them control people and make things float."

Ani cringed at that. He should've explained the Force a little more to Rey.

Finn said, "er…. What she said?"

"Impressive. Every word in that sentence was wrong", Luke said.

Rey and Finn pouted as Ani and Breha chuckled.

Luke said, "lesson one, sit here, legs crossed. The Force is not a power you have. It's not about lifting rocks. It's the energy between all things, a tension, a balance, that binds the universe together."

Ani, "you stole that from Master Kenobi."

Luke said, "doesn't make his teachings any less sound."

Finn asked, "okay. But what is it?"

Ani said, "the Force isn't something physical. It's more mystical."

"Ani is right on that one", Luke said, "close your eyes. Breathe. Now, reach out."

Rey literally reached out with her hand.

Finn followed her lead.

Ani had to cover his mouth so he wouldn't laugh out loud. Luke grabbed a blade of grass and started touching the duo's hands with it.

Rey gasped in surprise as Finn yelled, "I feel something."

Rey yelled, "me too!"

Luke asked, "you feel it?"

Rey said, "yes, I feel it."

Finn said, "there's something there!"

Luke said, "it's the Force."

Rey asked, "really?"

Finn said, "this is amazing!"

Ani and Breha were nearly in tears.

Luke sakd, "wow, it must be really strong with you two."

Rey said, "I've never felt anythi- OW!"

Finn yelled, "OW!"

Luke had smacked their hands with the grass.

Luke then turned to look at the two.

"You meant reach out like….", Rey said.

"We'll try again", Finn said as he and Rey's eyes closed again.

Luke said, "breathe. Just breathe. Reach out with your feelings. What do you see?"

Rey said, "the island."

Finn said, "life."

Rey said, "death and decay…."

Finn said, "that feeds new life."

Rey said, "warmth."

Finn said, "cold."

Rey said, "peace."

Finn said, "violence."

Ani found an earnest smile on his face as he heard their words.

They were finally starting to grasp what exactly the Force was.

Luke asked, "and between it all?

Rey said, "balance."

Finn said, "an energy."

The two said in unison, "the force."

Ani and Breha smiled at their friends.

Luke asked, "and inside you?"

Rey said, "inside me; the same Force."

Finn said, "I feel it…. The force…. Inside of me…."

Luke said, "and this is the lesson. That Force does not belong to the Jedi or the Sith. To say that if the Jedi die, the light dies, is vanity. Can you feel that?"

Ani said, "the Force is kept in balance by those who see this."

Rey and Finn smiled at their friends.

But then…. They began to feel something else as well….

Rey said, "there's something else beneath the island."

Finn said, "a place. A dark place."

"Balance. Powerful light, powerful darkness", Luke said.

"It's cold. It's calling me", Rey said.

Finn said, "it's calling me too…. This cold feeling…."

Ani remembered his test from his youth. The darkness that called to him was a large barren tree, hollow in the middle, and it had tried to call to him.

He knew the same thing was happening to his friends.

Luke said, "resist it, Rey. Finn? Rey! Finn!"

"Rey", Ani shouted.

"Finn", Breha shouted as well.

Rey and Finn open their eyes.

A large crack formed in the ground as Rey and Finn came out of it, breathing heavily as Ani rubbed Rey's back gently.

Luke said, "you went straight to the dark."

Rey said, "that place was trying to show me something."

"It offered you something you needed. And you didn't even try to stop yourself:", Luke said.

"But I didn't see you. Nothing from you. You've closed yourself off from the Force. Of course you have", Rey said.

Finn asked, "is that possible?"

Ani and Breha looked at their uncle in shock.

That's how he had remained hidden for so long. He cut himself off from the Force! That's why any other Jedi couldn't sense him.

Luke said, "I've seen this raw strength only once before, in Ben Solo. It didn't scare me enough then. It does now."

Ani asked, "what do you mean by that, Uncle Luke?"

Luke didn't respond as he walked off….

….

Meanwhile, the Resistance were watching as Poe, Padme, Collin, Rose, HK-50, BB-4 and BB-8 took one of the shuttles.

As the ship flew off, Collin said, "alright, we've got eighteen hours to find the equipment Pollh needs, we gotta hurry."

And thus, the crew began their mission to save the Resistance….

….

Back on Anch-To….

Rey and Ani were back inside the Falcon.

They were with Chewie in the cockpit.

Rey asked, "still can't reach the Resistance?"

Chewie shook his head no.

Ani said, "keep at it. If you get through, check their status."

Chewie nodded at Rey and Ani as they left, but was left to tangle with a bunch of Porgs messing with the stuff in the cockpit.

Breha was snickering as she heard the whole thing going on, but was busy playing at the chess table with King.

Ani and Rey stood next to Finn as they looked out to the sea.

"Looks beautiful, doesn't it", Rey said.

Ani glanced at Rey and nodded as Finn said, "even after spending my life in the First Order…. I never saw sights this beautiful."

"Really? I feel so bad for you Finn", Ani said.

Finn gave a small smile and said, "thanks man."

Rey and Ani smiled at their friend.

But that's when they felt the connection once more!

They heard Kylo say, "why is the Force connecting us? The four of us?"

"Murderous snake. You're too late. You lost. We found Luke Skywalker", Rey said.

Ani said, "you failed, you and your Master!"

Finn said, "you lose…."

Kylo said, "did he, Ani or any of his family tell you what happened? The night I destroyed the temple? Did he tell you why?"

Ani said, "Padme, Collin and I were there you bastard! We saw everything you and your knights did!"

Rey said, "I know everything I need to know about you."

Finn said, "and I've seen just how evil you are…."

"You do? Ah, you do. You have that look in your eyes. From the forest. When you called me a monster", Kylo said.

Rey said, "you are a monster."

Finn said, "a murderer."

Ani said, "scum."

Kylo simply said, "yes, I am."

And with that, the connection ended. Leaving the trio alone together once more.

….

Later, we see Ani watching Rey train with her staff as she swung it back and forth, trying to emulate the skills of a Lightsaber. Then Rey stopped, gazing at the saber in her bag.

Rey then picked up the lightsaber from her bag. She ignited both yellow blades.

Ani felt that the lightsaber had a strong connection to Rey.

Ani said, "such a beautiful weapon. That may be one of the last relics of the Old Republic."

"What's so special about the old Republic? I have heard about it, but only a little", Rey said.

Ani said, "well, during that time, the Sith and Jedi were in a fierce war."

"Woah", Rey said.

"The most well known Jedi of that era were Revan and Bastilla Shan", Ani said.

Rey felt something when she heard those names.

Ani asked, "Rey? Are you okay?"

Rey said, "I…. I'm not sure…."

Rey then resumed her training.

Rey swung her saber around, practicing with it very similarly to her staff.

Ani asked, "so, how's it feel?"

Rey said, "it feels lighter."

Ani said, "very good. The lightsaber is an extension of a Jedi. Even the Sith knew this when crafting their own. Treat the blade as an extension of yourself, and it won't fail you."

Rey smiled at Ani's words.

As she continued training, she accidentally sliced the huge rock she had been training near in half, sending it off the edge of where they stood, smashing one of the caretakers carts.

Rey called out, "sorry!"

Luke was watching from afar.

Rey was about to walk back towards Ani…. When she clutched her head in pain.

Ani asked, "Rey? Are you okay?"

Rey groaned in pain as she began to see something….

A vision!

….

Rey then saw a figure. They were dressed in a black cloak and red metal mask.

They were holding a baby in their arms.

Rey then saw who the baby was!

It was Ani!

Rey gasped in shock.

Baby Ani giggled as the masked figure touched his head.

The figure gave a light chuckle.

"Your future is going to be filled with wonderful things little one", the figure said softly.

Ani smiled up at the figure.

Rey is then snapped out of the vision. Ani stood by her.

Ani asked, "are you okay Rey?"

Rey said, "I…. I'm not sure…."

Ani asked, "what did you see?"

Rey said, "I saw…. You?"

Ani asked, "me?"

"I saw you as a baby being held by a masked figure", Rey said.

Recollection hit Ani at that moment.

Rey saw a vision of him being held by the force ghost of Revan.

This couldn't be a coincidence.

The two turned around to see Luke heading back to the top of the temple.

That didn't bode well….

….

Meanwhile, with Poe and his team.

Their ship drops out of hyperspace.

The group sees the planet of Naboo.

Rose said, "there it is. Naboo. At least it ain't Canto Bite."

"Yeah from what I have heard, it is really terrible", Padme said.

Rose said, "It's even worse. Me and my sister Paige used to live there…."

Poe and the others gave sad looks.

Poe patted Rose's shoulder and said, "your sister was a brave woman, Rose. She'd be proud of you helping us here."

Rose gave a sad smile, and then blushed as Collin hugged her.

The ship then entered Naboo's atmosphere.

Poe said, "we better make sure we land somewhere hidden, in case the First Order is…. Uh…."

The ship passed by a field with several staffs stabbed into the ground with Scout helmets sitting on top of them.

Collin said, "I think we're safe…."

The ship then landed on the field.

Poe said, "alright. Let's buy the equipment we need…."

The group set off towards Theed, the Capital of Naboo….
