Chapter 7: Gift of a New Friend

After winning his second badge in Cerulean City, Gilbert, along with Yolanda and Sakura were on their way to the next town. "Hey, it looks like it's getting pretty late." Sakura said, noticing the sun setting. "We should probably set up camp right here then." Yolanda said. "Good call, Yolanda. No sense wandering through the night." Gilbert said.

A while later, the gang set up their campsite. "Okay, Gilbert, while we prepare dinner, why don't you go gather up some firewood?" Yolanda asked. "You bet. Come on, Bulbasaur." Gilbert said as he headed off into the woods. "Bulba!" Bulbasaur said as he followed his trainer. "So, what exactly are we cooking?" Sakura asked. "I got a few ideas." Yolanda said.

Meanwhile, Gilbert and Bulbasaur were gathering the firewood. They got lucky since the whole place was loaded with sticks for firewood. "I have to say, Bulbasaur, this is our lucky day." Gilbert said. "Bulba." Bulbasaur said. Just then, they heard a cry. "What was that?" Gilbert asked. As the cry continued, Gilbert and Bulbasaur went to investigate. As they found the source of the cry, they saw an unknown Pokémon being hunted by a poacher. "Come back here, you pesky little goldmine!" The poacher exclaimed. He fired a net-rocket at the Pokémon, nearly snatching the poor thing. "Let's get him, Bulbasaur!" Gilbert exclaimed. "Bulba!" Bulbasaur shouted. The partners ran towards the poacher. But the poacher saw them coming. "Don't interfere with my work, kid!" He exclaimed, turning his rocket on them. "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!" Gilbert ordered. "Bulba!" Bulbasaur unleashed his vines and swatted the rocket out of his hand. "Now Leech Seed!" Gilbert ordered. Bulbasaur fired Leech Seed from his bulb and struck the poacher in his chest. Tiny vines sprouted from the seed, wrapped around the poacher and started sucking out his energy. The poacher fell to his knees in exhaustion due to losing his strength.

Later, Gilbert tied the poacher to a tree after calling Officer Jenny. "Now you just stay here. They usually pick up the garbage in a few minutes." He said. Suddenly, the Pokémon collapsed from exhaustion. Gilbert looked over it and saw that it was heavily injured due to the poacher chasing it. "We better take this Pokémon back to camp and get it some help." He said. "Bulba!" Bulbasaur nodded in agreement.

After Gilbert and Bulbasaur brought the Pokémon back to the camp, Yolanda looked over it, sprayed the more serious injuries with potions and wrapped bandages around them. "There we go. With a bit of rest, you should be as good as new." She said. "Here. These Oran Berries should help restore its energy too." Sakura said, handing out a bowl of Oran Berries. Gilbert took one of the berries and fed it to the Pokémon, who slowly ate it. The Pokémon's energy returned quickly. "Wow. That was fast." Gilbert said. Just then, the Pokémon's stomach growled, saying that it was hungry. "Looks like our new friend here is hungry." Yolanda said. "Good timing too. Dinner's ready." Sakura said. "Then let's eat." Gilbert said.

While everyone ate, Gilbert kept looking at the Pokémon, wondering what it was. He took out his Pokédex and scanned it.

No Data.

"No data? How is that even possible?" Gilbert asked. "I don't know. I've never seen a Pokémon like this before." Yolanda said. "Me neither." Sakura said. Gilbert continued to stare at the Pokémon as it looked back at him. After dinner, everyone got into their sleeping bags and went to sleep. The mysterious Pokémon slept beside Gilbert.

The next morning, the mysterious Pokémon was feeling much better as it flew around the gang with full energy. "Well, glad to see this little spark is feeling better." Sakura said. "Hopefully, it can settle down a little so it can have some breakfast with us." Gilbert said. The Pokémon stopped itself at the mention of breakfast. As they ate breakfast, Gilbert and the Pokémon kept looking at each other with an interest.

After breakfast, the Pokémon prepared to leave. "Well, I guess this is goodbye." Gilbert said. "You take care of yourself out there, little guy." Yolanda said. "And we hope to see you again." Sakura said. But before the Pokémon left, it flew up to Gilbert and gave him a kiss on the cheek as gratitude for saving it, shocking him and the girls. The Pokémon giggled as it flew away. Gilbert felt strange, having never been kissed by a Pokémon before. Afterwards, the gang continued on their journey. The Pokémon watched them leave from afar for a while before continuing on its way.
