Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I don't own Naruto, but I definitely own the song 'Finding Myself'.
-Finding Myself-
A young Kakashi sat huddled on his bed, clutching his knees to his chest as if he were cold.
"You bitch!"
Kakashi flinched. Even though the coarse language wasn't directed at him, it still scared the living crap out of him.
"Why did you spend so much fucking money on that stupid little turd? You know he's not gonna wear those damn fancy clothes!"
I can't help but wonder
if I'm the cause of all this
uproar if I'm the one making
you hate each other
making you scream and hurt each other
The boy's head rose a fraction of an inch when he heard this. "Am I the one doing all this? The one who's making them fight so much?" he whispered to himself.
Stop fighting
stop yelling
stop your voices form
clashing in their fury
"He needed new clothes! After all the hard training Yondaime had put him through, he was nearly in rags! It was only natural that I buy the poor boy-" His mother's defense of herself was cut of by his father's harsh laugh. "Poor boy my ass! And the hard training Yondaime puts him through? Pwah! That's a load of bull! He's too lazy to train hard!"
The boy's insides squirmed with rage. "I am not lazy! I just take my time learning things!" he whispered venomously to himself. "You stupid bastard…"
My grades are slipping
I'm later and later
More and more I find myself
Chillin' with the bad kids
Finding myself not caring anymore
"Hey, are you okay, Kakashi?"
Turning his back on the other boy, Kakashi snapped, "Go away, Iruka! Of course I'm fine! I always am!"
He knew from Iruka's despondent sigh that he had hurt Iruka's feelings. I don't care! He thought. I don't care about anyone!
"I was just asking, because, well, you're always late now and your grades are getting kind of bad…"
Whirling around, he punched Iruka square in the jaw. "What's it to ya, huh? Stop prying into my life!" He turned smartly on his heel and was just about to stalk away when muffled sniffles reached him.
"Iruka?"
"Go away and leave me alone! I don't want to talk to you ever again!" Jumping to his feet, Iruka sped away, rubbing furiously at his eyes.
Kakashi stood there, dumbstruck. "Oh my god… What have I done?"
More and more
my emotions leave me
I hurt my friends
I hurt myself
But nothing seems to matter anymore
Kakashi jolted awake. Cradling his head in his hands, he whimpered softly, "Why did I do that to him?" The now familiar hot prickling at the back of his eyes began and soon the salty tears poured out of his eyes.
What have you become
To do this to your friends
Change
Change into something you're not
Something that doesn't hurt the ones they love
Reaching over to his bedside table, he slowly donned his mask. Standing in front of the mirror, he tilted his hitai-ate to cover his left eye and made his other eye smile.
Put on your mask
So you don't scare anyone
Put on your mask
So you don't scare yourself
