He lay still in bed, his breathing soft. He stared at the ceiling, the darkness casting shadow in strange shapes about it. The night was cool and there was a small breeze going through the open windows.

The nightmares had been coming back lately. They hardly let him sleep anymore.

Quietly Moondance pushed the light blanket off himself, careful not to disturb his lover, his shay'kreth'ashke. He he moved to the window and looked down at the rest of the valley. The breezes were cool and they almost felt as is they might blow away his memories. Almost.

"They've come back haven't they" The voice behind him was quiet, but Moondance still jumped slightly. "Shh. It's ok. It's just me." Starwind continued.

Moondance sighed and turned to face his love. "I... They just started a while ago... I don't know why... I haven't been able to sleep well since..." His voice trailed off as his eyes fell to the ground.

"Why didn't you tell me?" There was some hurt in Starwind's voice, but mostly concern. It hurt that Moondance hadn't told him.

"I didn't want you to worry. They'll go away, eventually... they do..."

"Moondance," Starwind began. He lifted his hand and cupped his lovers chin with it, tilting his head up to look at him. "It wasn't your fault. Sometimes things like that happen to people. Besides, I love you, I will protect you from them. Come back to bed." He pulled the other gently toward the bed they shared.

"I love you, too." He said softly. He allowed himself to be pulled backto the bed and got in wrapping his arms around Starwind, as Starwind wrapped his arms around Moondance.

"Good," came the reply. The kiss on his forhead was sweet and warm. "Now go to sleep." And he did.
