A/N:

My plan is to make this story exactly 100 chapters. As in 98 regular chapters + the prologue in the beginning and an epilogue.

With that said, it's time to turn up the gears again ;-)

On Bella's 18th birthday, instead of a paper cut, a switch is about to make Forks even weirder.
How will Bella cope with suddenly being a 104-year-old mind-reading vampire in love with her singer? And how will Edward cope with being a human in love with a vampire?

Chapter 88

Nothing had been left to chance, and everything had been prepared down to the smallest of details.

Bella Swan would have the most comfortable and well-planned change from human to vampire in history. As long as you didn't consider the raging fire in her veins as the venom incinerated every human cell that fought to keep her alive.

"I appreciate you keeping a brave face for me," she said as Edward showed her the room she'd be in for the next few days. "But you don't have to. I know you hate it."

He grimaced. "Only because you'll be in pain. I don't want you to go into this thinking I still have reservations. I don't. I want this just as much as you do."

"That's all I need to know," she said and took a seat in the sea of pillows that would provide her with something to grab at, bite into, or tear apart if she needed it. Her heart was beating hard and fast but Edward knew it was nerves, so she didn't feel a need to reassure him.

Eleazar stood with his mate, Carmen, and the rest of the family outside the door, and smiled encouragingly. "I know it's impossible to know exactly how long it will take, but from my experience in Italy with the brothers, changing a healthy human generally goes faster than one who's sustained considerable injuries. I'm sure we'll see you up and about in less than two full days."

"And we'll all look forward to officially welcome you into our extended family," Tanya said.

"Thank you all again for helping us like this," Bella said, genuinely moved they'd taken her in and opened their home for her to undergo the change in when she'd never even met them before.

"Don't worry about it. It's what family does for each other," Tanya said and her sisters all nodded in agreement. Even Laurent standing with Irina in the back mirrored them.

Kate, being nearest to the door, reached for the handle to give Edward and Bella some privacy. "Good luck," she said, and the door closed.

They looked at each other for a long moment, silently communicating the love they held and that they were both ready to take this step. Then Edward reached for the IV needle and prepared the bag of mixed drugs they'd use to knock her unconscious.

It had been Carlisle's idea to approach it like you would a surgery. Hopefully, it would give Bella a few hours reprieve while Edward worked on getting as much venom in her blood stream as possible, and even though she'd still feel the burn once the drugs left her system, it would be easier on them both because he wouldn't have to worry about causing her pain when he bit her, and she would be calmer in the beginning.

The needle was inserted in the back of her hand while she clenched her eyes shut and looked away, and then she lay down on her back. Edward stroked her hair and kissed the tip of her nose.

"I love you," he said.

"I love you, too," she replied and lifted her head so he could attach the mask over her face. It was very clinical and not at all romantic, but it was what they'd both agreed on was the best way.

Edward started administrating the drugs expertly and gave her one last smile. "Count down from one-hundred for me, love."

She was already feeling the effects and blinked slowly. "One-hundred, ninety-nine, ninety-eight... ninety-seven... ninety-six... ninety—" She was out before she'd even reached the ten first numbers, and Edward grabbed her hand to kiss the back of it.

Knowing she couldn't feel a thing made is so much easier for him to turn her hand around and sink his teeth into her wrist for the first bite. Her blood was heavenly delicious, even with the tangy aftertaste caused by the drugs, but he didn't allow himself to even think about that before he sealed the wound back up with his tongue and moved to the next spot.

When he was done, he leaned back against one of the walls of the room, pulling her with him so she was supported by him and he could closely monitor her values.

"You'll get through this, my beautiful, strong Bella," he said even though she couldn't hear him. He was mostly saying it to reassure himself. "You'll be fine."

A/N:

With Carlisle being an actual surgeon, I don't understand why they only discussed morphine for Bella's change since it had obviously not worked with Emmett.

Now, this procedure is clearly not particularly intimate or romantic, but I mean, the whole idea of the transformation in the Twilight universe isn't very pleasant from the get-go. Like, the whole soul-damning aside, imagine asking your partner to bite you, puncture your skin with his razor sharp teeth, most likely causing you to literally scream out in pain from that alone, while he as to focus on putting poison in your blood stream that will slowly and excruciatingly kill your organs but you'll still live … sort of.

Vampires are a trip, man! xD

At least this way, Edward gets the reprieve of not hearing the love of his life scream out in pain as he literally hurts her.

So that's my version of the change in this, and I will see you tomorrow for the next chapter!

Stay Awesome!
