A/N:
You seem to mostly like my version of the change and that it's more humane, so I'm so happy we can agree on that :)
Let's see how she's handling the change!

As much as Bella and Edward love each other, they can't possibly understand what the other's life is like.
On Bella's 18th birthday, instead of a paper cut, a switch is about to make Forks even weirder.
How will Bella cope with suddenly being a 104-year-old mind-reading vampire in love with her singer? And how will Edward cope with being a human in love with a vampire?

Chapter 89
The drugs Edward had given Bella had already started to burn off after less than ninety minutes, and the sounds she made as she "woke up" slowly built from small whimpers to bloodcurdling screams.
Compared to James' bite, she was way past the point where sucking the venom back out was even an option, and all he could do was be there for her, hold her hand when she wasn't thrashing about, and softly speak to her about how well she was doing and encourage her that it would be the last time she ever experienced such excruciating physical pain.
At one point, he had to physically restrain her because she attempted to claw at herself where she burned the most, and she managed to scratch her skin open. The wounds healed quickly, but Edward thought it best to make sure she couldn't hurt herself more than necessary.
About a day or so into her change, Tanya poked her head through the door.
"Edward, I know you said you didn't want to leave Bella, but Carlisle's on the phone for you," she said and showed him the cell in her hand.
Edward glanced over at Bella, who was curled into a quivering ball on her side, too absorbed by her pain to even notice his presence yet, but he was still reluctant to leave her alone.
"I can stay with her while you talk," Tanya said, and Edward relented.
"Thank you," he said and accepted the phone while Tanya took his place on the floor next to Bella. "Carlisle?"
"I know you want to be with Bella, so I'll keep this brief," Carlisle said. "Charlie insisted Bella's memorial was held together with yours even though we said you're to be buried in Chicago next to your biological parents. Her funeral is set for two days from now, and we'll leave to join you in Alaska in a week under the guise we need to get away and mourn as a family. Once we've dealt with Victoria, Esme, Alice, Jasper, and I will return to Forks where she'll finish her senior year so it won't look as if we're fleeing something."
"What about Emmett and Rose?"
"They haven't decided yet. They might stay with you, or go off on their own again. We'll see as this all develops. How's Bella doing?"
He sighed and looked toward the closed door where he could still hear Bella's screams from within. "As you would expect. The drugs only lasted a little while, and she has at least another day or so. Eleazar believes she'll be up before her two-mark, though."
"We can only wait and see. I'll see you both in a week, son."
"See you." They hung up and Edward immediately returned to Bella's side.
A/N:
We got a little update on what's going on in Forks there, and clearly the drugs didn't work for long but they helped in the beginning.
I have written so many versions of the change from the perspective of the one being changed, so I sometimes think it's refreshing to see it through the eyes of the one witnessing it.
Now, we're getting closer to the other main conflict, so put your seatbelts on!
I'll see you tomorrow.
Stay Awesome!
