Chapter thirteen

"Hi, Danny. Are you feeling better? We're happy to see you left your room," Maddie greeted as she noticed Danny enter the dining room. The adults had heard from Jazz how he asked his friends to leave, only for during that time to change rooms to the guest room and take a nap until dinnertime.

Danny was silent as he walked into the room and stared at his parents. Jack smiled at his son and requested, "Have dinner with us."

Danny thought the request over, but instead filled his plate and went back to his room to eat alone.

"He thought about it. That's a good sign at least," Jazz commented. She knew that her parents hurt Danny, they did not deny that, but part of her still desperately wished that things could go back to normal. They were a family, and had always been a close family.

"How are we supposed to talk to him if he doesn't even want to be in the same room as us?" Maddie sighed.

"Now, Maddie, you need to remember that he is a teenager. Anything could make him not want to eat with his parents. Tell you what, why don't I tell him the good news," Vlad offered.

"What good news?" Jazz asked.

"Well, Vlad offered to keep Danny for an extended visit. You know, until he cools down and wants to come home. It sounded better than having him possibly run off to who knows where," Jack answered.

Jazz frowned as she mulled that information over, then turned to Vlad and asked, "Can I talk to you? Alone."

"Of course Jasmine. After dinner we can talk," Vlad agreed. In response, Jazz quickly emptied her plate and announced as she pulled Vlad from his seat, "Okay, dinner's done. Let's go talk."

Once they were in a different room from her parents, Jazz asked, "Okay Vlad, what exactly are you plotting?"

"Nothing special. Or at the very least no goal I haven't been working on for a while."

"Really. I know that you've been wanting Danny for a while now."

"Come now Jasmine, is it so hard to believe I would take advantage of a situation?"

"No…I guess not. But still, if you really care about Danny you would be trying to help him be with people who love him."

"Would you like to know a secret? Just yesterday, Daniel was in my lab considering if it would be better for him to just run off into the Ghost Zone. Now, I think we can both agree that it would be better for him to stay here with me than floating around there."

Jazz frowned as she thought about that. She worried that Danny would consider something like that. Vlad placed his hand on her shoulder as he continued, "You must admit that him staying here sounds like a better idea. Now, I must tell him the good news."

With this Vlad left to tell Danny the decision made between him and his parents. Danny was less than enthusiastic to hear that people were planning things for him without his input, but at the same time slightly relieved that he was not going to be forced back home. He also distrusted Vlad's intentions, but Vlad simply told him the same things that he told Jazz. He still did not like the idea, but he admitted that staying with Vlad was not the worst next move.

Danny stayed in the room the rest of the night. He did not want to accidentally run into his parents and have to talk about everything. That just seemed way too awkward.Jazz talked with him for a little while. She was worried, and curious, and upset that Danny went through all that and did not want to tell her. She thought that he trusted her again. But she also understood that he was going through a lot at that time. The last thing he needed was her to beraid him. He was getting enough of that from his friends via texts.

Danny went to sleep shortly after she left, only to awaken a few hours later when he heard an alarm go off followed by banging at the front door. As he heard Vlad complain at the door, Danny began to wonder what was happening. Following this curiosity, he left the room to be joined by his parents; equally sleepy and confused.

They then looked to the front doorway to see the Guys in White storm through the door and shout, "There's the target, get him!"

"What do you guys think you're doing? Just leave us alone!" Maddie and Jack complained as they tried to step between them and her son. It did not stop them, but it did buy Danny enough time to run off.

Danny began to panic as he ran off, scared that they would catch him again and what else they were planning to do to him. A few guys spotted him in the hallway and fired at him. Danny fired back in response, then decided to turn intangible and phase through the floor.

He stopped when he reached the lab, and started towards the portal, but stopped when he noticed that he was not the only one in the room. There with him stood Jazz with Desiree

"Jazz?" He asked, confused.
