The stars glisten in the early night sky, no wind or cloud in sight, perfect time to go flying. Hadrian paused as he made his way out the quidditch pitch and noticed two people flying. It was almost curfew and very few people would fly at this time in the dark October night. Coming closer he saw who it was. James and Damian Potter. Sighing, Hadrian made to turn around to head back to the castle when I was spotted.
"Hadrian?" Damian called flying over to him with James following behind "you have a broom?"
Turning around Harian looked up at Damian "I am borrowing it without permission."
"You stole it."
"No, I plan to return it." Hadrian said, turning back around to leave.
"Join us."
Hadrian paused in his step; it was James who said it. Damian nodded his head "please we do this once a month just doing tricks you mentioned how you miss flying. Plus we can show how old dad is."
Hadrian breathed out slowly and decided what the hell, both Lily and James, more so, have been wanting to spend time with him. This way James could calm down about it. Hadrian then mounted the broom, giving a smirk as Damian whooped.
The read of the Damian was excited he got his goal. They had a fun night with his dad and older brother. Nothing was wrong, nothing was strange. Ust the three of them having a race and doing tricks. It was a good moment for them to bond over silly things.
Which all came to an end when the Auror on guard duty came stomping out with Alistar Moody. "What the bloody hell are you doing? Curfew was an hour ago. This is mark one." James was about to talk about he was with him but Hadrian silently went with the aurors leaving Damian and James in the dark Quidditch pitch.
The sun came out the next day a few fluffy clouds passed by as the slytherin quidditch team gathered in the field for their tryouts. Like promised Hadrian and Marcus were standing there with the rest waiting for the captain to start.
Each section of players were going through different tests to see which one performed the best and who came in second for the back up team. The captain then once the other landed called up the beaters. Marcus then joined the other in the air, "This year we are in need of one beater and two reserve players." The captain announced that each reserve player is required to try out again. After some runs it was announced that Marcus and a seventh year who was on the reserve team last year got beaters and a third year took the reserve position.
Once they cleared the air, it was Hadrian's turn for the seekers. Mounting he looked to Draco, "I expect fair no slacking."
Draco laughed, "I wasn't planning on it." It was just the two of them as no one wanted to try out and the previous seekers graduated last year.
After twelve tries to catch the snitch, Hadrian caught it 7 times and Draco 5 times. Hadrian was placed as seeker and Draco on reserve. They shook hands once they landed "Good run."
Draco nodded "yes, we should do it again sometime."
The two joined Marcus and the others as the last group went to the air, this time it was the keeper position. After they were positioned and the others left the captain gathered everyone to go over the schedules and some of the routines they would do. After that and a few drills and get to know you games, they headed back to the castle for a well deserved lunch.
A week later and after the class Hadrian headed down the steps to the Quidditch pitch. Marcus ended up with a detention visit with Snape. On even a second step onto the field Hadrian was already in the air doing his laps. Suddenly he heard comotions on the other side of the and caught the sight of someone falling. No one was moving to stop her from falling. Hadrian quickly turned towards her and dived. Seconds later he reached out his arm pulling up with the other and caught her. Then coming to a stop as his feet landed on the ground letting her go at the same time. As people swarmed around her he said "You have a wand with you, not everyone can be there to save you." aWith that he walked away shaking his wrist.
"Hadrian!" Damian's voice came running after him, "you saved her." He breathed out with awe in his voice. "Are you okay?"
Hadrian turned to look at him, seeing him glancing at his wrist. "I'm fine." But Damian of course didn't take that as an answer and pulled at his sleeves.
"You need to get that look at Hadrian."
"No it's fine" Trying to get his sleeve from Damian. Though he wouldn't let go. Sighing he turned to face Damian, "fine if you stop pestering me. I'll go."
Smiling Damian turned with his sleeve still held. Hadrian followed, confused at the look Damian gave him when he agreed to go.
Fifteen minutes later found Hadrian and Damian leaving the medic wing heading to the great hall for dinner. While waiting for the staircase and Marcus who was on the stairs when Hadrian hissed in pain and falling to his knees, his shield crashed. Marcus came to a frantic Damian saying it would be alright and went to Hadrian while Damian ran off to get help. "Someone played with my wand," Hadrian told Marcus who tried to stem the blood dripping from his scar. Soon Damian returned with the Potters and Dumbledore following after.
Quickly he was brought back to the Medic Wing again but Hadrian was passed out. Marcus demanded they wake him up but none of them listened. Just Dumbledore's reasoning of using Dark ritual at some point and it's still aggravated. Which made Marcus roll his eyes.
The next morning Hadrian was released from the wing and went to classes. The game soon followed that weekend. It was Slytherin vs Gryffindor. Damian was the Chaser and Mikeal was the seeker.
It was an intense game with Hadrian and Marcus just like other Slytherins played the rules to the limits. Which resulted in a close win with the Slytherins and Damian caught in the crossfire. Hadrian among the crowd of excited slytherins watched as Damian on a stretcher in tears being taken away. A sense of guilt passed over him.
Furious Hadrian stormed out of the hospital wing. Damian harsh words ringing in his ears. He didn't believe Damian could turn like that but that's the Potter's. Turning on family. What he did in the game is legal and is down right saine and messily in Death Quidditch no cheating at all. Marcus followed Hadrian shortly after leaving the hospital wing itself. He Knew they wouldn't be visiting again.
October 29th came quickly and everyone was excited. The entire village of Hogsmeade was dressed up for Halloween, including little figures of skeletons flying around. Hadrian shook his head with Marcus and looked up at them, frowning. Hadrian was walking when Marcus pointed to a Quidditch shop. He watched as Marcus wandered into it. Damien was still not on speaking terms with Hadrian, but the Slytherins had lost their match against Ravenclaw and this cheered up the Gryffindors.
Silently as he continued on he thought back to that morning. They were both called up to Dumbledore's office. There they go through every annoying thing, such as turning in their wands, strict rules on what to do and being aware of the dementors prowling around. After that Marcus and Hadrian were free to go with their guard.
Which didn't stop them from sneaking off to get a letter sent unnoticed to the Deck. "Okay I found what I needed." Marcus announced joining Hadrian who was staring across the road. "He's not talking?"
Hadrian shook his head "no not since that night," He said as they watched Damian with his year friends heading off in the direction outside of Hogsmead.
"You hungry?"
Hadrian snorted, "I know you are. Broomstick?"
"Sounds good," Marcus hummed as they made their way there.
Hadrian returned to the table, with drinks, he picked up the fire whisky, and took a good swig at it. As Marcus drank from his finishing it. Once they were both finished they left the crowded restaurant. As they both left they were met by frantic screaming and commotion outside.
Hadrian watched in horror as blue flames attacked everyone, and everything in it's path. Hadrian saw the people around him panicking, and met Marcus' gaze. Fiend Fire but worse. A fire that only comes out when something is wrong.
Hadrian saw the Aurors firing spells at the fire, but then heard a loud banging sound behind him and saw their guard standing on top of the bar. The man then told everyone to remain calm, but many people were still trembling in fear.
Hadrian and Marcus pushed through the crowds he saw, five other Aurors stood in front of the fire trying to keep it at bay, Hadrian yelled and pulled Marcus down, while flipping over the table outsides to shield himself and Marcus from the flame that claimed the next building. Getting across the street they found that the entire entrance was surrounded by Aurors. Trying to get the students up to the gate.
'They'll be here soon, Hadrian but what do you do now?'
Hadrian silently watched the scene, 'priority is the students. With or without a wand we can work it out.'
They shared a look, 'on three.'
They both nodded, getting ready 'one two three!'
As one they moved on to the crowd of students getting the younger ones out of the stores or fallen debris. Hadrian and Marcus were soon joined by Professor Snape and McGonagall running with the students, and were led back to the school by the large mob of students. However Hadrian looked through the mob and didn't see the one person he was looking for. He was missing.
Hadrian cursed as he made up his mind to not let Damien get hurt. Marcus grabbed Hadrian's shoulder, but Hadrian calmly shrugged his hand away and continued to walk away from the crowd. 'Keep them busy. I'm going to get him.'
Hadrian snuck back to Hogsmeade, stood in front of the still burning Three Broomsticks, pulled out his wand, and muttered "Point Me" as he brought an image of Damien in his mind. He set off quickly, trying to keep himself away from the fire which was heading off somewhere.
Hadrian rushed past Moody and Sirius, who were holding a shield to block the fire, and continued ducking and diving to save himself from the spells being deflected around him, sending water when he could. Hadrian then ended up standing in front of the Shrieking Shack.
Hadrian hurried along the house, seeing the fire getting closer, still following his wand, hoping he wasn't too late.
Hadrian then found Damien, the other teens from earlier, on the top floor playing a card game.
"What are you doing here?"
"Up there is a fire coming we don't have long."
"Im not listening to you."
"Damian we don't have time for this, the flames already claimed part of Hogsmead."
Damian at first wasn't going to buge till one of his friends called out. The flames were now licking the walls climbing up. "Out now lets go." He dragged and pushed them to the stairs to the Whomping Willow. They stumbled out the kids scattering, and Hadrian turned to the entrance. Damian wasn't behind him.
Growling Hadrian stormed back through the entrance calling out for damian. The flames were getting more intense as Hadrian stepped through.
Suddenly, the fire attacked Hadrian, trying to latch on to him. Hissing Hadrian conjursed water keep it at bay. Getting to the top floor Damian was backed in a corner holding the sword Hadrian had given him. Quickly he spelled the fire a way. "What were you thinking coming back up here."
Tears rushing down his face Damian looked up to Hadrian. "I couldn't-"
"Sighing, Hadrian took hold of Damian and pulled them towards the hallway. Together they made their way through the house but was trapped as the old wood started to cave blocking the entrance.
Turning they went into a room "I'm sorry" Damian cried out holding onto Hadrian "I couldn't leave it. I'm sorry for fighting with you. I'm"
Hadrian turned to him, placing his hands on his shoulders. "Damian, stop. Okay. We are family and even though I am not close with the rest of the family besides you and Aries but we are. We will get out of this."
Hadrian headed to the window, they were two stories high at least. "Damian, are you good at jumping?"
"W-what? Your serious"
"No, that's your uncle."
Damian gave him a look as he looked out of the window and down. "Is that the only way?"
Hadrian nodded but paused. There are other ways, never only one way. Salazar told him when he was younger. Thinking back he watched the flames coming to him. Realisation dawned on him he was the one that they were fixing. Taking a step Damian though pulled him back. "Hadrian, what are you doing?"
"I know what I'm doing. The flames are here due to a wrong done to the land. I can fix it."
Pulling away and pushing Damian back towards the wall. Hadrian faced the flames. "I am Hogwarts heir. I make my claim!"
The fire stopped paused as if assessing his words. It seems they decided Damian had already thrown himself around Hadrian and was trying to pull him away. In case the flames jumped. He knew their ways after studying about it. "Damian, listen we don't have long. I am not mad at you. I know what we did wasn't wrong and wasn't right. We're fine." Damian looked at Hadrian and saw that he was telling the truth. Damien gave Hadrian a weak smile and then turned to face the flames.
They changed in colour lighting to a sky blue. It made its decision. Swiftly the fire surged forward, swarming Hadrian. He screamed at the sudden influx of power. He fell to his knees and heard Damian calling for him but slowly everything dimmed and fell silent.
