Hey here's chapter 2. Hope you enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed editing it lol.
"Marin, please just let me go to the fairy fountain and get healed!" Link whined as he fidgeted in the chair while Marin tried to remove the wood from his wound. They were sitting in Tarin's house, Marin had come an hour after everything had ended and freaked when she saw Link's wound. She insisted on fixing it herself. Now he was sitting in a chair, shirtless, and being tortured by his so-called 'wife'.
"Link dear hold still I'm having a hard time getting the wood out," Marin said struggling to keep her cool, she was losing her patience with her husband, what should have taken half an hour was now taking an hour and a half, and they weren't close to being done yet either. The sun had set and candles were lit around the house.
"Hurry up!" Link yelled angrily in pain. His green eyes glared at her, and the soft glow of the candles contorted his face into a rage when really he was… well he was fucking pissed.
"I would if you'd hold still!" Marin shot back.
"I'm hungry", Tarin whined from the dining room table, banging on the table like a toddler. A bib was around his neck and he looked like he had lost twelve pounds since she last saw him.
"Dad I'll cook when I'm done, go check on the other villagers," Marin said, trying to keep calm.
"Fine." He said sadly and walked off sulking. Taking a candle with him. The room got a little darker because of it.
She carefully removed all the wood and Link gave a sigh of relief. His tense body relaxing now, blood was gushing from the wound and Marin was quick to take a rag and clean it trying to keep it from getting on her father's floor. Though Link doubted he'd care. He hadn't cleaned since she left, it was a pigsty with clothes all over the place, dust, grime, mold, and such.
"Can I please go to the fairy fountain now?" He asked with tears in his eyes.
"No, I don't want you going out into the forest like this, you could get hurt."
"Marin, I can handle myself, trust me." He said annoyed.
"Link please just let me do this", she said looking into his eyes with a pleading look on her face.
"Is something wrong Marin?" Link asked?
"Yes. You jumped into a burning building and could have died, I'm a little shaken up by that fact."
"Oh."
"Yeah oh, so stop complaining and let me treat your wounds."
"Fine, fine." He cringed as Marin cleaned the wound with a warm cloth and took some salt out.
"Okay no."
"Yes", she poured the salt into the wound and he cried as the salt cleaned the wound.
"You okay?"
"I should have gone to the fairy fountain."
"You know I didn-"
"I don't care!"
She sighed and wrapped it up.
He groaned in pain, "What's going to happen to Ulrira?"
"I don't know'', Marin said, likely he'll stay with Papahl's family, he's Mamasha's grandfather. And Papahl's great-grandfather.
"Wait what the fuck?"
"Yes they are a disgusting family I know, Mamasha is Papahl's aunt, as well as his lover." She said in disgust. Link shook his head with a frown. I hate inbreeders.
"Well Link, I think you're all set. You should be fine, just… don't jump into a burning house."
"Marin I had to, and if I have to I'll do it again.
"I know." She said with a sigh. And thanks for saving our village.
"Yeah, no problem."
"Father, we're leaving!"
"Okay bye!" He called from Mamasha's home.
Link and Marin went home and walked in. Marin sighed as she lit a candle and put it next to the bed. "Jeez I'm beat", Marin said and flopped into bed.
"You're tired? I jumped into a burning building and fought an army of moblins."
"And I had to heal you up and listen to you whine about how it hurt, and listen to my dad whine about how I wasn't making him dinner even though I don't live there anymore."
"Technically my wound is still here so you didn't do a thing except torture me." He said saltily.
"Shut up and get in bed, Link."
He took his clothes off and climbed into bed and groaned as he laid down. "I'm sore."
"Thank you, Link."
"Yeah of course."
"No really, Ulrira is like a grandfather to me."
"He lost his house…. And his wife."
"Grandma Yahoo… I didn't think about her much, what with your wounds and all." She noticed Link was silent.
"Link?" No answer, "Link, you know it's not your fault right?"
"Of course I do…"
She's wrong you're the reason it happened, if you left this wouldn't have happened.
If I left she'd be dead like everyone else.
"Crap I forgot to make my dad dinner, I don't think he's been eating since I left. Oh well, he needs a diet anyway." Link was still silent, "hey you know you can tell me anything right?"
"Of course I do… I'm tired, that's all." Link said in a tired tone, back facing her.
"Oh, well okay then, good night." She blew out the candle and wrapped her arms around his chest. He flinched when his wounded arm was touched. She kissed his ear lobe and went silent, falling asleep with him.
Link and Marin went to the animal village and sang for them. Link laid in the grass and took a nap. As per usual it was The Ballad of the Wind Fish. He couldn't sleep because of his inner turmoil with abandoning Zelda but his mind was well rested and the sound of his wife's voice was relaxing. Suddenly she stopped singing.
"O-oooh… I don't feel so g-" she suddenly puked all over the ground.
Link opened his eyes and looked over at her. "Marin?"
She was gasping and brushed her hair from her face. "I don't feel so good Link…"
"I Can tell."
"Marin, are you okay?!" The animals of the village asked concerned, they brought her to the doctor. Link followed her. He couldn't get close because the animals surrounded her. They closed the door, not even letting him inside. He grumbled and sat in the grass, hand on his chin annoyed. An hour later she came out. "Marin, did they figure out what's going on?"
"Yes. I'm pregnant." She said, holding her stomach, rubbing it a little. She looked down at it with a calm smile.
Link's heart stopped for what seemed like a minute as his mouth opened at this.
"Well, say something!" One of the animals snapped at him.
Link shook his head and smiled, "that's great!" He walked over briskly and hugged her tight, she hugged him back.
"Are you nervous?"
I'm terrified, "no, I'm excited."
"Me too."
Everyone in the village came out and congratulated her. They didn't care much for Link. They held a big feast and partied all night. Link and Marin slept in the village that night.
The next day they went to Mabe village and told Tarin. He was ecstatic.
"YAHOOOOOO!" He said hopping around and kicking his heels together. "IMA BE A GRANDPA!"
Marin laughed at this. "How's grandpa Ulrira?" Marin asked.
He calmed a bit at this. "Oh, he's uh, he's not doing too hot Marin. He hasn't eaten much since the raid. Grandma Yahoos' passing took a toll on him I'm afraid."
"Oh no." She looked at Link, "we should visit him."
Link nodded and they left, Tarin came along as well, wanting to be near Marin and all the action. They walked into Paphl's house and found Ulrira in bed breathing heavily.
"Grandpa Ulrira?"
"Marin..?"
She nodded as she walked closer. "Hello grandpa Ulrira."
"Marin…. How are you."
She took his hand sadly. "I'm good. I heard about grandma Yahoo. I'm so sorry."
"…."
"Um, but I have good news."
"….."
"I'm pregnant."
He smiled at that. "That's good Marin. That's so good." He squeezed her hand. "Congrats."
"Thank you."
"When did you find out?"
"Yesterday."
"Wonderful. Dear, just wonderful." He coughed.
"How are you feeling?"
"Well, I feel better now that I get to see your lovely face, and hearing this wonderful news."
Marin blushed, "oh grandpa Ulrira, you're too kind."
She kissed his cheek and his face went red.
She walked over to Mamasha, how's he been?"
"Terrible. He hasn't eaten, and barely drank. Just stares up at the ceiling. Today is the most he's eaten since the raid." She said sadly.
"Link…." Ulrira said to him.
"Hey."
"You should have woken the wind fish."
"W-what?" He asked, feeling his blood run cold.
"The monsters won't stop until you do. We'll all be slowly picked off unless you do it. Please Link… you're causing more pain than is needed."
"I… I can't, I have a kid coming", he whispered to him.
"…. Then you've damned us to suffer."
Link stared at him horrified.
Mamasha walked up with some soup. "How are you feeling? Hungry?" He didn't answer, just stared at the ceiling. Mamasha sighed and placed the soup down on the bed table. "At least drink something. Please!" No response, it was like talking to a dead man.
Marin walked up, "Grandpa Ulrira please!"
No response. He sighed and opened his mouth. They all stare at him confused until Marin's eyes brightened. "I think he wants to be fed!" She took the spoon and brought it to his lips. He closed his mouth on it and swallowed. "Thank you grandpa Ulrira."
"Mm."
"Marin, you're amazing."
She blushed, "oh, yes I suppose I am , aren't I. Grandpa Ulrira, do you want me to stay here?"
"Mm, if you can, I don't want to be a burden."
"You'd never be a burden. Link. I'm going to stay in Mabe for a while until he heals up."
.
"Okay, well maybe I should stay too then. The village isn't really too safe."
"There is no place for you to sleep, Link."
"I'll figure something out, I'm not leaving you here alone." He said protectively, fearing the wellbeing of his child and wife as a whole.
"You both can stay here. I'm afraid I'll need to sleep on the floor though."
"Nonsense, they can stay in my house."
"Father, there's no room there."
"I'll sleep on the floor, I miss you, Marin."
"Father, your back will be killing you. Thank you but no." She kissed his cheek and Mamasha fed them and put some blankets on the floor.
The next day Link got up early and went out to the nearest fairy fountain and got a fairy for grandpa Ulrira. He got one in a bottle and went back to the village and gave it to him. It spun around him and his wounds were gone. However, he was still emotionally wounded. After about two weeks he was doing just fine, Marin took him into his house so he wouldn't be alone. Link and Marin went back home after that. Link had Marin relaxed at home while he did the fishing, and crabbing. He even helped cook, but she wouldn't let him do it himself, she didn't trust him. That night they laid in bed and he rubbed her belly lovingly.
"I love you"
"I love you too. Do you want to hear it?
He nodded.
"Put your ear to my belly", he did so and listened. He heard and felt movement and smiled. They kissed and made love before going to sleep.
Link….. Come back….
It's your fault she's dead, should have woken the wind fish….
We'll all be murdered eventually if you don't awaken the wind fish….
Link…. Wake the wind fish…..the wind fish…Link…why….
A light was seen and then a burning town, quiet screams from numerous people were heard, wails and clashing of steel.
Wake the wind fish…wake the wind fish….
The screams got louder along with the sounds of wood crackling in a fire.
Your fault she's dead….
wake the wind fish…..
We'll all be murdered…
Link, please!
...YOUR FAULT…..LINK…
The wails grew louder and more primal, the sounds of ripping flesh and gibberish were heard along with the rest of the chaos.
Link…..your fault…..
WIND FISH…LINK
PLEASE…..
SHE'S DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU...
SHOULD HAVE….
"Link?"
He sat up with a shout and looked around, he found he was cold but sweaty as well, fear gripped him like a pitbull as he squeezed the sheets in his fists, heaving as he brought his gaze down to the bed sheets covering his body. He found himself shivering as well.
"Link, are you okay?"
He didn't answer and instead laid himself down, opposite her, and tried to go back to sleep. He couldn't though, the guilt was washing over him again and the fear wasn't going anywhere either, as he shivered and held himself.
Marin sighed and wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his back. He slowly calmed down as his heart rate slowed. He fell asleep and was tortured by the same dreams.
The months went by slowly as Link and Marin prepared for their child, Tarin came into their home with a crib that he built.
"How's Ulrira doing?", Marin asked.
"Good, he's still sad and doesn't talk much but he's eating again."
"Good. Stay for dinner."
"Don't mind if I do!" Tarin ate dinner with the two of them and headed to the door.
"Father, maybe you should stay the night", monsters out there are causing more trouble than usual.
"What about Ulrira?"
"Isn't Mamasha taking care of him?"
"No, she's getting tired of taking care of him. She's got four kids after all. Six if you count their baby."
"Father that would be five."
"Hm, Link dear, walk my father home please."
"On it." He grabbed his magic staff and shield and they headed out. He walked him back to Mabe and left. He got home and Marin was already asleep. He got in bed and went to sleep beside her.
The months went by and Marin's belly grew in size. She was nearing her due date. Link allowed her to do less and less as the days went by. Link stayed home usually except for getting food and water. Marin was eating at the table with Link when her water broke.
Link got her to the bed and did his best to help her get comfortable to be able to give birth. Six hours of pain and their child was born. It was a boy. He had pink hair and brown eyes. Link smiled as he rubbed Marin's arm. The baby's crying was loud and strong as Marin rocked him. An exhausted smile on her face. Link got on a knee and rubbed her shoulder, his head against hers affectionately.
"Do you want to hold him?" She asked, an expectant look on her face, Link knew she was expecting a yes and decided to go give her what she wanted.
'`Yes", he said with a nod and took his son and cradled him in his arms. Standing he rocked him gently his cries had calmed by this point, it now was only a grunt and a weak cry having calmed a lot. "What are we going to name him?"
Marin was silent in thought. "Link junior?"
"No."
"Alfon?" Link suggested
"Alfon? What a weird name." Marin said.
"It was my uncle's name".
"Hm. Crysto?" Marin suggested
"Crysto?" Link said.
"Yes. He was a hero and a legend on our island. He wielded the Coholint blade."
Link thought about his sword. Link… come back…he pushed the thoughts out of his head. "That's a good name. Crysto it is then."
"Little Crysto'' she said as she held her arms out he gave him back to her and she cradled him sleepily. He brought his fingers to his mouth and drifted off to sleep.
Link pulled Marin's head into his chest and kissed it. "I love you."
"I love you too Link,'' she said, exhausted, and started to fall asleep herself.
"Give me the baby."
"Why?"
"You could smother it."
She looked at Crysto uncertainly but ended up giving him up. He kissed her forehead and put the baby into the cradle and then went to sleep.
For the next several week's Link didn't leave the house, despite Marin's protests that she would be fine he couldn't bring himself to go out. In his defense, Marin was too weak to even get out of bed at that time. She spent the first month recovering, Crystos birth had taken a toll on her physically. Eventually, she did recover enough to walk at least and they all went out fishing, little Crysto wrapped around her chest.
"Link, I think I'm well enough to travel. Let's go see my father, I'm sure he'd love to see his grandson. He's been hoping for a grandson. I think he'll be very happy."
Link nodded, "we can go tomorrow."
She smiled "thank you", she pecked his cheek as he continued fishing. They went home, ate and Crysto suckled from Marins tit and they all went to bed full.
The trip to Mabe was uneventful, Link cut through a few monsters, and Marin found she had less stamina, Link told her it might be Crysto strapped to her chest but she wasn't so sure, she'd gained about fifty pounds over the course of her pregnancy. When they got to the village she was out of breath.
"Oh god….I ….I need to exercise….."
"You'll be fine, you're not fully recovered, Marin", Link said as they walked into the village towards Tarin's house.
"Father, we're here, and your grandson's here too!" She called from across the village loudly.
Tarin came out and smiled, "Marin, Link- MY GRANDSON!" He raced over and shoved Link aside making him fall on his ass and hit his head on the ground with a heavy thud. "GIMMIE MY GRANDSON WOMAN!"
Marin gave a forced smile with a chuckle, "calm down father, you're being inappropriate."
"Nonsense, give me my grandchild Marin!"
She unwrapped him and gave him up. His name is Crysto.
"Ah! What a fitting name, little Crysto, hello!" He said in baby talk. He started throwing him in the air catching him, and Crysto laughed.
"Father, be careful with him. He's only a month old!" Marin said nervously.
"Oh calm down, he's a month old, he's practically a grown man!" He gave a hardy laugh and tossed him in the air again- and failed to catch him-
Link, Marin and Tarin both went wide eyed at this, too shocked to speak, as the gurgling and grunting of Crysto rang out from being dropped. A red flag if there ever was one, Link's blood ran cold at this.
"TARIN YOU IDIOT!" Marin yelled at him she ran over and grabbed her baby off the ground cradling him and shushing him as she looked him over for injuries.
"Marin I'm sorry I-"
"Shut it, Tarin."
"Can I at least hold him again?"
"NO! YOU LOST YOUR BABY-HOLDING PRIVILEGES!"
"But Marin!"
"NO! She screamed enraged, her face red and a few veins sticking out of her neck and head. She looked him over and found a large dent in his head, her eyes widened in terror, "Link, DO SOMETHING!" She commanded, shoving the baby to him.
"Um…" he set Crysto down and sifted through his pack, meanwhile Tarin was still trying to hold Crysto again and Marin was ready to murder him, he ignored this though as he started to freak out. If he lost his son because Tarin dropped him on his head, he WOULD kill him. He finally found it; a bottle holding inside it a fairy, he opened it in front of Crysto and it flew around him, immediately the dent in his head was healed. His crying and screaming began as a deep purple bruise appeared on top of his head.
Link sighed in relief as he rocked him, shushing him.
"Oh come on Link, let me hold my-"
"Tarin, if you touch my son right now, I'll cut your hand off." He said icily.
Tarin took a step back and looked at the floor.
"Marin, Link, I'm sorry I didn't mean to drop Crysto."
Link looked at Marin, she looked at him. "Father, we forgive you, but you're never holding him again," Marin said.
"That's probably for the best", he said with a sigh. "Come inside, have some lunch with me, oh, and Marin, you've gained weight."
"Thank you father, I hadn't noticed", she said sarcastically, an annoyed look on her face as they followed him to his house, Link rubbed her back tenderly.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes I'm fine, I just watched my baby almost die, but I'm fine, just peachy!" She said, the sarcasm dripping from her lips.
They had lunch with Tarin and they talked about life. Mabe village hadn't changed much, and Marin slowly lightened up and had a genuine smile on her face after an hour of talking with her father.
Link looked out the window, the sun was setting. "Perhaps we should head out, Marin."
She looked where he was looking at the sun, "I suppose."
"What? Don't take my daughter out there at night, you'll get her killed, and what about my grandchild?!"
"They'll be fine, trust me I can handle it, Link said." Link…..
"That doesn't mean something can't happen!" Tarin said angrily.
"Father-"
"Don't you father me!"
…come back….. "Tarin it's fine,'' Link said, annoyed.
"No, it's not, I insist you stay here!"
Your fault…. "Tarin just stopped. I'm not in the mood."
"Don't tell me to stop, this is my grandson!"
"And it's my SON, now shut up."
"Link!" Marin said surprised.
"Who do you think you are?!"
"I'm the one that saved your butt from certain death numerous times, NOW SHUT THE HELL UP!" Link said, slamming his hands down on Tarin's table as he stood, his face contorting into rage.
Tarin was caught off guard by this.
"Marin, let's go. Now." Link said walking towards the door.
"Link?" She looked at her father and sighed, "goodbye." She followed Link outside, "Link what was that all about?"
"Nothing."
"Is it because he dropped Crysto?"
"No, it's not. Can we talk about this later?"
"We can but when we get home we're talking about this. No exceptions."
"Fine."
They got home, Crysto was asleep by now. Marin put him to bed. She turned to him and said nothing but looked at him sternly and expectantly.
Link sighed, he knew what she wanted and wasn't about to leave her empty-handed. "The dreams."
"The dreams are bad enough to make you this upset?"
"It's not just dreams Marin, it's in my head all the time… telling me to wake the Wind Fish… even old man Ulrira told me to…"
Marin looked to the floor, "maybe…. you should."
"Marin no, I have a family here, we have a family! I can't now. What about Crysto?"
She smiled, "you're right, sorry about that." They kissed and went to bed. Link had the same dream. He awoke and hid his face in his wife's bosom.
"Another nightmare?"
"Mhm…."
She sighed tiredly and kissed his head. "It's okay, they're only dreams, love."
The next day Link and Marin took their son to the animal village.
The animals were overjoyed.
"Marin!"
"Hi, everyone, this is our son, Crysto."
"Wow he looks just like you Marin!"
"No, he doesn't, he looks like me." Link said annoyed.
"No, he looks like Marin." One of them said casually.
"Marin, sing for us oh yes please please!"
She smiled, "okay, Link can you hold Crysto?
"No, let me hold him!" One of the animals said.
"It's my son. I think I'll hold him."
"Oh Link, they've never held him before. You can hold him anytime."
"Yeah!"
"Let us hold him!"
"Marin, don't you remember what happened last time-"
"Yes and I prefer not to, they aren't my father, Link, calm down and let them hold him,'' she said, annoyed, in a firm voice.
"Fine."
Marin gave her son to one of the animals and sang. Link sighed and took a nap.
Link….. why…
Link cringed at this, it was getting old fast.
Link….wake the wind fish…
"Sleepers wake, Dreams will fade-"
Link….
"Although we cling fast Was it real? What we saw?-"
Awaken….
"I believe Lost in dreams-"
Link…. It was like a voice blowing through the breeze.
Link finally fell asleep.
Link stood in darkness, except for in front of him. Hyrule was burning, and Zelda was in the flames looking at him sadly.
"Link…why? Why won't you come back? You promised to come back…" half her face was burnt off, and a large green-clawed hand grasped her shoulder, Gannon's face appeared next to her, and he licked her burnt cheek with a long snake-like tongue.
"Link… please wake the wind fish…." The flames engulfed Zelda as she cried which turned to wails that became more hysterical. Suddenly he saw a horrible abomination, all the guardians he fought and killed clumped together, black charred skin and flesh wafted into his nostrils, the faces of some were on the sides of its body, three heads stared at him, the burnt flesh stretched, the eyes wide and unable to blink. The jaw and teeth of one protruding out of the skin, the lips gone, the jaw pushing out and pushing back in as it breathed. The monster stood on four legs and a tail waved back and forth. The thing was giant close to thirty feet in length and height though it was hard to tell with the flames around it.
The screams he heard in the nightmare a long time ago were heard again, from the mouths of the demon standing before him.
Those that have been killed will rise again, and take revenge upon the one that slayed them, darkness will rise as the worst comes to pass. It said in a deep unnatural voice. The voice echoed all around off the black walls of the darkness.
His eyes opened and he sat up in a sweat. "Oh god." He said in horror, gasping.
"Hey can you keep it down, we are trying to listen to Marin sing", one of the animals said annoyed.
Marin had stopped singing and ran over to Link kneeling beside him with a hand on his chest, "Link darling, was it another dream?"
"Ugh he ruins everything, why is he here?" One of the animals said, the others nodded and mumbled amongst themselves in disapproval.
"The dreams are getting worse", Link said shakily. The memory of the horrible abomination plaguing his memory.
"Crysto was crying now."
"Oh great you made the baby cry you really suck, you know that?"
They all agreed with this.
"Why is he even here?"
"All of you be quiet please", Marin said to them firmly, annoyance in her tone.
"But Marin he-"
"No buts, don't talk about my husband that way", he's going through things.
"Does he have a condition?"
"No, I don't have a condition."
"He does."
"No!"
"Is he stupid?"
"No!"
"A little, but that's not his condition."
"Hey!"
She giggled at this, amused, "do you want to go home?"
"No! Don't go home, Marin!"
"Yes, we love you!"
"And your baby!"
"And Link too, right?"
"Huh? Oh sure, yeah whatever." They all nodded half-heartedly at this.
"Good, well Link?" She said rubbing his back, body pressed to his.
He sighed, "we came all this way. No point in leaving so soon."
The animals nodded in agreement, "will you sing now?"
"Yes, I'll sing, as long as my husband plays his ocarina."
"Huh?"
"LE GASP! HE KNOWS THE SONG TOO?!"
Marin laughed at this, "yes. I taught him the song."
The others muttered amongst themselves. Then turned to Link.
"Show us you're worthy of our Marin swordsman."
"Um, I don't know, I'm not in the mood to play."
"I SAID PLAY THE FUCKING OCARINA PLEB!" A rabbit said viciously, grabbing him by the shirt and shaking him aggressively. His eyes bulged out of his skull and a vein so big it pushed through his fur. His grip was intense, especially for a rabbit.
"Get off me!"
"PLAY! PLAY THE GODDAMN OCARINA!"
"Okay, okay!" He took the ocarina and the rabbit let him go.
He played the song and Marin sang, all the animals watched in awe at this, they played for hours. Link didn't think about it but he was at peace, no horrible thoughts, only peace. They played for a long time. The sun was going down by the time they stopped.
His stomach rumbled. "I'm starving."
"We can feed you." They all went to the bear's restaurant and were fed. They went home afterward.
Hope you enjoyed it, I'll probably post 3 at the end of the month. no promises though. Just note this is my main story of focus because it's the most developed of all of them so far. bye.
