Chapter Six: Revelations
"Okay, hold on. Yuna, you must be confused about something. There is no way that kid is your brother. Your brother was taken away thirteen-"
Kakashi didn't get to finish his sentence, his student with tears in her eyes looking up at him as she spoke over him. "Thirteen years ago he was taken by the Shinigami. And when he told me that thirteen years ago the Shinigami gave him to his village, it just…it makes sense doesn't it?"
The rest of the group, now wide awake after the revelation unraveling before them, either stood or sat in the living room as she explained what happened when she talked to Naruto on the bridge. She told them their talk, and how it led up to what was happening now. Haku and Zabuza were quiet about this, either sure what to even say or do in this situation. Sakura kept her hand on Yuna's shoulders as she wept, Sasuke looking at his teammate and friend crying now that she thinks her twin brother is alive. Kakashi sat there contemplating the situation.
In all his years of being a shinobi, he never encountered such a thing like this before. This goes far beyond what he knows and could truthfully understand. One thing he did understand, however, was that his sensei's son is alive. Alive and strong. But belongs to a village unheard of.
As the group tried to calm down and think of what to do, Haku spoke up. "The first thing we need to do is find Naruto. I can only imagine how torn up he is knowing that the Shinigami essentially lied to him about what happened on that night thirteen years ago."
Zabuza nodded in agreement, heading to the door with Haku. He turned to look at Kakashi and the others. "We will search the northern parts of the village area. Will you and one of your students search the south?"
Kakashi quickly stood up, nodding as he looked at Sasuke. The Uchiha gave one last look to Yuna before standing up, following behind the other three while Sakura stayed behind in case Naruto came back.
~~The Unnamed Bridge~~
Naruto slowly reappeared from the shadows cast by the moon's light, falling to his ass as he rested his back against the bridge's railing. He was lost in his thoughts as he tried to think of any possible way what he just put together wasn't right. Was there something he missed? Did he misunderstand what Yuna said to him about her brother being taken away from the Shinigami the same time he was brought to Chikyugakure? The thoughts kept running through his head, unsure what to think as for the first time in a long time he let tears run down his face.
The typically happy-go-lucky boy never really cried like this. Sure when he got hurt he'd let a few tears slip from the pain. But crying from sadness? He never did that. The new sensation was agonizing to him. Why did he feel so upset? Why did he want to scream and yell?
Why did he lie to him?
Naruto looked down to his hands, clenching them as the betrayal kept crossing his thoughts. He devoted himself to the Shinigami, offering his body and soul in service to him. For hell's sake, he went, fought, and died in a war that he had no business in. His eyes blurred as the tears fell down his cheek. He needed someone to talk to, but who could he talk to now?
His mother would defend the Shinigami with no issue. She would tell him that he had a plan for Naruto and being taken away from his birth parents was part of it.
He couldn't talk to Keiko, she was far too busy helping restore and heal the Hidden Mist. She would likely end up telling him the same thing Jin would. And when he thought about it, everyone from Chikyugakure would do the same.
Maybe Zabuza or Mei? No, they barely knew him. He couldn't in his right mind go to them with his own issues, especially one so personal.
The Leaf shinobi were out of the question too, knowing better than to trust them if Yuna told them what they figured out. He may be young, but he wasn't stupid. He figured they would try to persuade him to go to his parents, to be reunited.
At the thought of visiting his birth parents the tears welled up more. He was so lost, so confused with all the emotions running through both his heart and soul. Did he want to meet the two that brought him to the world? Did he want to yell at them for summoning the Shinigami in the first place? Did he want to yell at Jin for never telling him the truth?
The last thought was quickly taken out of his mind. She and all the others in Chikyugakure were likely just as unaware of the circumstances around that night. He brought his knees to his chest, letting the painful tear shed and fall onto the ground as he let the hurricane within his rage on.
He was so lost in himself that he didn't sense the life of another coming to him. He wouldn't even look up at them til they spoke. "Naruto?"
Naruto looked up, seeing Haku with a somber smile on her lips as she looked down at him. When he saw her he was about to make the seals to hide back into the shadows like he did with Yuna, but she stopped him when she placed a hand on his own before he could start.
She kept her smile as she leaned down and soon sat beside him, close enough to be touching shoulders against one another as she kept her hand on his. "So…I hear you had some major news brought to your attention?"
Naruto didn't look at her, keeping his gaze down to his feet as he thought to himself. But despite what he wanted to do, he simply nodded to her question. She kept holding his hand, their arms lowering down to sit between them as she looked up at the sky. She honestly had no clue what to tell him, but she knew he needed someone.
"You're not used to being upset, are you?"
Naruto nodded his head.
"I see…I suppose that makes you lucky."
He turned his eyes to look at her, feeling anything but lucky right now. She saw the glare he was giving her, but didn't let her warm smile fade as she talked. "You're lucky because you haven't suffered. I can tell you so many things right now. I can almost bet your feeling betrayed by the Shinigami. That you were cheated, right?"
Again, Naruto said nothing, not even nodding. She sighed, looking to the sky as she continued.
"You're lucky because you didn't feel the pain of losing a brother you never got to meet. Someone that shared a womb with you, someone that was supposed to share the burdens she now has inside her. You're lucky because you weren't the father that watched his plan backfire and lose a son, or the mother that watched helplessly as she was forced to raise only one of her children due to their mistakes."
"Naruto Shingami, you are lucky because despite all of that, you grew up well. You're now the sole apostle to the Shinigami himself. You were raised by not just a village that loved you, but by a mother you said treated you like her own son. The clan that helped raise you loved you, prepared to make you their next leader when the time came. Despite the Shinigami's actions you were blessed with such a powerful bloodline that even the Uchiha might be afraid of it. In the end, Naruto, you were luckier than almost anyone else around you."
When she finished she turned to look at Naruto again, her hand holding onto his tightly as he unleashed a fountain of tears down his cheeks. She was right. He hated to admit it, but the only truly bad thing that happened was that one night in his life. Everything…everything else was near perfect. However, the sinking thoughts still weighed in his mind.
"Do…do you think they'd even want to see me now?"
Haku chuckled, which made Naruto look at her smiling embrace once more. "Of course I do. What parent wouldn't want to meet their long thought dead son? I think they'd be overjoyed to see you again."
Naruto smiled softly at the thought, but came back with another one of his thoughts. "I am no longer like them though…The Shinigami himself said due to his intervention and my time in the Pure World my blood no longer resembles any others. I am a new bloodline in all intents and purposes."
She thought about that for a moment, squeezing his hand when she thought of a response. "She did carry you in her womb for how long, Naruto. I doubt she or your biological father would care that your blood is no longer the same."
Naruto again smiled at this, but one last thought was left eating at his mind. "Do you think I should confront Lord Shinigami about all of this?"
This one left Haku stumped. She had no doubt in her mind things between his village, who worships the Shinigami, and the village of his birth would be clashing over all of this. In truth, it could very well start a war if things were not handled properly. Knowing how civilian councils were they'd say that they tricked the Shinigami to take Naruto in order to take the Namikaze bloodline, or some other bullshit answer like that.
After thinking about it for a minute she answered. "I think, for now, you need to let the chips lie where they may. If you confront the Shinigami and anger him, would it not anger your village too?"
Naruto nodded.
"And if you choose not to, then the villages will only know what you and the others know. Which, if I am to be honest, could cause a lot more issues down the road. But I truly think waiting to confront the Shinigami may be the best bet for now."
The boy sighed as he took his arm and wiped away his tears. But when he went to use the other to help him up, he felt the realization dawn on him. He was holding Haku's hand. Crimson quickly developed on his cheeks, embarrassed and Haku could see that. She, however, decided to not let him go just yet. She leaned her head down and against his shoulder, keeping their fingers locked together now as she enjoyed this company.
"Uhm…Haku? Don't you think-"
"Just a little longer. This is nice."
Naruto gulped, blushing hard but nodded as she leaned his own head against her's. Honestly, it did feel nice to him. It felt nice that just as quickly as those emotions came, they left thanks to her. When he looked down at her, he saw the content, happy smile still held proudly on her lips. Inside his mind, he made himself a promise to make sure that smile would never fade away.
~~Tezun's House~~
When everyone left the house grew quiet. Yuna had let the last of her tears fall as she rested her head on Sakura's head, sleeping softly. Or at least that's what everyone around her saw. Within her mind it was a different situation.
~~Within Yuna's Mindscape~~
"I understand that you are hurt, kit. I could never understand the reasons behind what the Shinigami has done, but I know that it must have been for a reason we could not understand."
Yuna sighed as she sat on her tenant's head, the Kyuubi looking up at her as he worked to comfort his container. The two had grown close when she first was able to communicate with him, the two sharing a common pain: the loss of a sibling.
Or atleast, that's the pain they used to share. Though that barely harmed the connection they had, if anything, it made the Kyuubi want her to find and drag her brother back to the village.
She sighed softly, her hand running across Kyuubi's head, fingers running through the soft fur as they talked. "I know, Kurama…I just. Is he really him? Are you sure?"
Kurama, the Kyubbi, nodding his head soft enough not to have her fall off. He sighed, looking up at her. "I am positive kit. Though his scent is vastly different then your own now, I can still smell the faint similarity between you two. He is Naruto Namikaze, your twin."
"Okay, thank you Kurama…I just wish, I don't know, I had found him differently. With him belonging to another village now, there is no way he'd come back to me and our family. He probably has his own family now…"
The nine tailed fox huffed at her depression, standing up and bringing her off his head to look her in the eyes. "You, kit, are being too hard on yourself. I doubt he'd not want to see the two that brought him into this world. And I doubt he'd want nothing to do with you and the newborn pup your mother has with her."
"I think, personally, you should drag him back if need be. I know your sensei would wish to do the same. He is the lost son of his sensei, and knows that bringing him home would not only make Minato happy, but the village as well."
"Kurama, I can't just force him to come home. I don't even know what he is capable of. You yourself said that I need to be cautious around him, remember?"
"This is true, we still know very little of what he is capable of. And if he is indeed the one that helped lead the charge in the civil war in the Mist, then he is likely a very powerful shinobi in his own right. Perhaps, hmm…you said he belongs to a new village now?"
Yuna nodded, keeping her eyes to Kurama's. "Yeah, a village called Chikyugakure, the Village Hidden in the Earth."
Kurama had to think for a moment, an idea popping into his mind as he let a foxy grin show. "That means they would be trying to get their genin to the chunin rank. Which means, since I doubt the boy has attended other exams, would have to go to the Hidden Leaf for the exam in a few weeks. Offer him to come and take the exams, and alert your father of what has happened. If all works well, we won't only be able to see him again if he does not come home with you, but find out where his village is if they participate in the exams. Or at least a rough idea on where this island of theirs could be."
Yuna could only smile in response, walking forward and failing an attempt to hug the fox's large, furry chest. "Thank you, Kurama…I think that's a wonderful idea. And thank you for talking me through this all. I'll invite Naruto once he comes back…if he comes back."
The great fox chuckled, bringing a hand to the back of the girl and returning the embrace before the connection ended, letting her sleep soundly with a smile on her face in the waking world.
~~Tezuna's Village three days later~~
Despite the worry for their missing friend, and brother, Team Seven was standing on the bridge along with Zabuza and Haku to keep a look out for any potential threats. Tezuna said this would be the last day he would need protection, since after today the concrete of the bridge would only need to be set before being able to be safely walked across.
With this in mind, Kakashi and Zabuza were waiting for Gato to make a final move, both veteran ninjas keeping an eye out for any and all signs of trouble. So when they saw a lone figure walking down the other end of the bridge, leaving marks on his feet in the wet cement, the two and their trainees got on their feet and prepared for an attack.
The figure was holding something in his hands, liquid dripping from its bottom as the figure made his way to them. Before anyone could make a move, Yuna ran forward, a smile on her hand as she waved her hand. "Naruto!"
When he got close enough Naruto was easier to be made out by the others. Kakashi was a bit annoyed that his student was able to figure out who it was before himself, but when he saw the crimson, slitted pupils in her eyes he knew he couldn't detect him first when she was using the Kyuubi's eyes.
Naruto stood before the group, tossing the item in his hand onto the ground before moving to walk past them. He spared a small smile to Yuna, which made the girl smile back as she felt something finally being made between the two. He then smiled more warmly to Haku, who blushed at the smile and looked away. Zabuza picked that up rather quickly, raising an eyebrow to the boy making his pseudo daughter blush.
"What's in the sack?" Kakashi asked as he saw the small, red liquid dripping sack on the ground where Naruto had tossed it. Naruto turned to the man, smiling as he turned back around to keep walking."
"That is the head of Gato, now dead after I wiped out the hundred or so mercs he was going to send to attack this bridge. Tezuna, your land is no longer going to be terrorized by that man, that is a promise."
Being skeptical at the boy's words Sasuke went to the bag, opening the mouth and reaching in before he grimaced seeing the decapitated head, with scummy shades still on, being pulled out by the hair. When Tezuna saw the face on the head, he fell to his knees, a smile on his face as he looked back at Naruto. However, when they looked to see him he was gone once again, thought not far this time. He was waiting for them at his house.
When the group got to the house, they walked in with Tsumi and Inari holding onto him as the cried tears of joy. The sight made Yuna giggle, while it made a small pang of jealousy run through Haku's heart. Though she wasn't entirely sure why.
"Gramps! Did you hear? Naruto killed Gato!" Inari shouted, running to his grandfather Tezuna as Tsumi let go of Naruto. She smiled down at him before going to work on something for them all to eat.
"Yeah, yes I did! I was one of the first people to find out!" Tezuna said, bringing up his grandson onto his shoulder as he watched the smile finally return to the depressed boy.
Naruto smiled at the sight, but in the back of his mind the sight of two hit a little close to Naruto. Before he would let the thoughts of days with his own father with him like that he smiled and reached into his pocket. What he fished out was two scrolls, both with red ribbons around them. Naruto went to Tezuna, placing the scrolls in his hand before sitting on the couch.
"Before you ask, I may or may not have raided Gato's treasuries after I ended him. Those two scrolls contain every Ryo he had extorted from your people. I figured it was better to give it all back to you and your people instead of sitting in my vault back home or gaining dust in Gato's mansion."
Tezuna almost dropped Inari as he felt the shock in his heart from this. "H-how much is i-in here?"
A gleeful smirk made its way to Naruto's lips as he spoke up. "I think, roughly, 30,000,000 Ryo? I'm not the best at keeping count."
This time both Inari and Tezuna felt the shock, and grandson like grandfather the two fell backwards and passed out from the sheer amount he just willingly gave them. This made Naruto chuckle, leaning back as he tried to relax. He flinched, a familiar pain returning to his hand as he used the free hand and held his wrist tightly. This got the attention of everyone there. Haku went to Naruto, taking his hand into her own as she rolled up his sleeve and saw a few black veins pulsing on his wrist.
"What is that?" Zabuza asked, looking down at the boy's wrist and ignoring his daughter's concern over the boy she had met a few days prior.
Naruto coughed slightly, hiding the blood that came up from everyone but Yuna. She could smell it. "It's nothing. A side effect of overusing the Shinigami Art style. The jutsu I can use with the Arts is powerful, and over using it causes this backlash to my body. In about three days it should clear up and I'll be back to full health."
Kakashi raised his eyebrow at this, getting closer and looking at the strange veins as Haku rubbed medical paste over it in hopes of at least numbing the pain. "I've never seen Chakra Exhaustion act this way before."
Naruto laughed shyly, bringing his free hand to the back of his head and scratching. Not remembering that hand had the blood he coughed up. "Yeah, well, Shinigami Arts don't exactly rely solely on Chakra. It has two methods of cost. Chakra or someone's life essence."
At this Kakashi's eyebrow raised in surprise, thinking of this information. As he thought, Sas decided to speak up. "So you don't have to use chakra for this jutsu style? You need to teach it to me! It can help me with my goal."
"And what goal would that be?" Naruto asked, not exactly liking the arrogance coming from this duck haired boy in front of him.
"To avenge my clan, to kill the person that slaughtered them all."
Naruto thought about it for a second, looking into Sasuke's eyes before shaking his head. "Sorry, but I can't. You do not have any of the bloodlines in my village, nor my own."
"Wait, so the Shinigami Arts are exclusive to your bloodline? Then why can't Yuna use them?" Sakura chimed in, sitting across from Haku and Naruto. This also interested the others, all except Haku. He already told him most of what allowed him to use it.
"Simply put, me and Yuna are not exactly blood related anymore."
Again the group went silent as they heard that. Yuna frowned, looking at her brother as she sat on the other side of him. "What do you mean? We have the same parents, Nartuo."
"Yeah, we do." He started "But, thanks to being brought into the Pure World and being given the Gifts from the Shinigami as an infant, it altered my blood, my genetics. At best now, genetically speaking, we are very distant cousins."
This crushed Yuna, and Naruto could see that. But, before she could slip into another depression, he brought her in for a one arm hug. She looked up at him, shocked at the embrace and the smile he was giving her. "But that doesn't mean we aren't still siblings. And you best believe I will be getting to know you better. We got alot of time to make up for."
This made the young clan heiress smile as she returned the hug, which once again made Haku feel a tad bit of jealousy. She pulled back, looking up at him and smiling so brightly one could go blind if they stared too long. "So does that mean you'll be coming home?!"
Naruto sighed softly at that, taking his arm away from Haku and Yuna before standing up and stretching. "Not exactly. I want to know you and our parents. I want to know my other family. But I also have a duty to those who raised me my entire life. I can't abandon them when they themselves had nothing to do with that night all those years ago."
Before Yuna could speak up, Kakashi cleared his throat to get Naruto's attention. "Well that may be true, and even if you are no longer directly tied to the Hokage and his wife by blood, you have a duty as their son to see them."
Naruto rolled his eyes, not exactly liking this guy. It was bad enough he saw him with those perverted books in his hands. The same orange books that Mei was working on banning sales of it in Kiri. "I will see them, very soon in fact. I just need you and your team to make sure I am welcomed when I come there."
Yuna stood up, smiling as she was again about to speak but was cut off. "Good, I hope you can teach me some of what you know to help me then. It would be a great honor for your lowly village to help an elite Uchiha."
When those words left his mouth, the room grew cold and Naruto's smile faded. He turned to look at Sasuke, his eyes no longer the blue they were before. His eyes were now bitch black with the ghostly green pupils at their center. When he spoke, Naruto's voice went down a few octaves.
"You will never, ever, insult my village around me again. I care little of your petty vendetta, Uchiha, and I will have nothing to do with it. Do you understand that, arrogant brat?"
The Uchiha heir fell back onto his ass, looking up at Naruto as the killer intent he had coming towards him truly brought fear into the boy's heart. Almost the same level of fear that he had felt that night he found his family slaughtered by his older brother.
Just as quickly as the cold pressure had come, it had left as Naruto took a deep breath to control himself. He cleared his throat, bowing his head to the group. "I think that I will be heading back to my village. I trust you will return to Kirigakure, Zabuza. And Haku."
The girl turned to the boy, standing up and coming to him as he gestured for her to come to him. He bit his thumb, making a few hand signs before slamming his hand that was bitten onto the other. A puff of smoke came from the contact, and from the smoke a small, copper scaled lizard came into existence. He brought his hand to Haku's shoulder, the lizard understanding exactly what to do as he crawled onto the girl's shoulder and perched itself proudly.
"This is one of the summons of my clan, Higgs. He is a good friend of mine, and a son of the thirteenth clutch of the summon boss. He will act as a communicator between each of us til we can meet again. Simply give him a letter you want him to take to me, and he will do so. And I will send him back with one of my own."
Haku blushed as she turned her head to the lizard, who stood up on its back legs and saluted her. "Higgs the Courier at your service!"
This made Haku chuckle a bit at the lizard, bringing a hand and gently petting the lizard's head. Higgs hissed happily, looking to his summoner and saluting him as well. "You can count on me boss! I'll make sure your girlfriend here can send her love letters!"
"Higgs!"
Everyone laughed as they saw Naruto start to chase Higgs around the house, Haku unable to move as she was paralyzed with embarrassment at the lizard's words. Zabuza wasn't laughing. In fact, he was wondering how he could kill this boy without upsetting Haku in the process.
After ten minutes of the delay, Naruto stood back at the door and smiled as he opened it to leave. "Yuna, let uh…uhm, dad and mom know i'll be coming to Konohagakure in about one week. Again, please make sure that no one will attack me when I get there."
Yuna giggled at her brother's antics, nodding her head before something dawned on her. "Wait, how will you find the village if you've never been there before?"
Naruto smirked, tapping his temple before walking out the door. "A good ninja doesn't reveal all his secrets, sis. Just make sure you do as I asked."
And like that, he vanished, no one understood what he did. No one but Kakashi as he saw for the split second it happened, Naruto melding into his own shadow.
"Now that," he thought, "Could be an issue in the long run."
