Chapter 10: The Underestimated
One Year Before The Battle of Yavin…
The Eighth Brother backed away as he fought against Kanan Jarrus on Malachor. As he did, he saw Maul strike down the Fifth Brother before his lightsaber was hit. Seeing Ahsoka and Maul join Kanan, he turned around and tried to fly off, but his lightsaber failed on him, sparking before he crashed down to the ground below, where everything went black.
A while later, the Eighth Brother let out a scream as he woke up. Looking around, he saw that he had lost his legs and his arm, with only his right arm remaining. He looked around as Maul limped to one of the Inquisitor TIE Fighters, taking off as the Sith Temple started to collapse. He could hear Ezra Bridger screaming out the name of Ahsoka Tano as lightsaber clashes were heard from inside. Soon, lightning shot from it, and it all collapsed. He could briefly see Ahsoka reemerging a while later, but unable to do anything, he fell unconscious.
By the time the Eighth Brother woke up again, everything was in ruins. He looked around and saw that there were still two Inquisitor TIE Fighters remaining. Reaching out with the Force, he pulled the metal off from them, which then broke into smaller bits to attach to his legs. As soon as that was done, he used more parts from the TIE Fighters to put together a pair of makeshift legs, as well as his left arm with dual blaster cannons attached. He let out a scream before getting up, struggling to remain on his new makeshift legs. He staggered around for a bit before he noticed Maul's discarded cane. Reaching out, he pulled it to him and used it to support himself, making his way to his damaged lightsaber. He looked through the remains of the Sith Temple, eventually finding several old crossguard lightsabers and the lightsabers of the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister.
The Eighth Brother growled before grabbing two crossguard lightsabers and the sabers of his fallen comrades. He took each apart and started to get to work on his own lightsaber, putting together a new hilt. Remembering he needed tools, he grabbed the broken droids used by the Seventh Sister and parts from the ships, though he kept one still intact. With all of the pieces in place, he started to put together his lightsaber again, which now had smaller emitters on both sides. He stood up and activated one side, showing off a red crossguard lightsaber before doing the same with the other end. He spun it around and nodded with satisfaction before walking to the last remaining TIE Fighter, flying off into space.
"To all Imperial Forces, this is the Eighth Brother," the Eighth Brother said as he flew, only to feel weak again. "I require… immediate assistance. Sending my location… send help."
The Eighth Brother flew as far as he could from Malachor, but found himself feeling groggy again. Soon, a Light Cruiser appeared, but as he flew closer to it, he drifted back into unconsciousness.
Ten Years Later…
"How are his vitals?"
"Stable. Not strong, but getting there."
"We're getting a pulse."
It was a while before the Eighth Brother woke up again. He looked around, finding that he was hooked to medical equipment. He also saw droids making him talon legs, almost resembling what he had before, but not making him so tall, and his arm was being replaced as well, now not looking as crude as when he assembled it, and now with the cannon seen retracting inside as he twitched his new limb around. He noticed his lightsaber on the table before sensing someone watching over him. Turning, he saw Moff Gideon walking over.
"Greetings, Inquisitor," Moff Gideon said, with the Eighth Brother briefly seeing the hilt of the Darksaber attached to his belt. "It is rare that I see any of you again."
"You… you're Moff Gideon." The Eighth Brother realized.
"Very few of you knew about me, including Reva, who you know better as the Third Sister," Moff Gideon said. "After hearing the report of what happened on Malachor, everyone thought you were all gone, but I had my suspicions, and knew a few of you were alive."
"What… what's going on?" the Eighth Brother asked. "Wait… Maul escaped," he recalled. "I must find him."
"You are unfortunately too late," Moff Gideon replied. "In the search for the droids holding the plans to Project Stardust on Tatooine, troopers reported having found a grave marker, which when scanned, revealed the body of Darth Maul. An autopsy later showed that he was cut down by a lightsaber."
"So Reva was right about Kenobi," the Eighth Brother muttered. He looked back up. "What about Kanan Jarrus? What are his whereabouts?"
"Deceased as well," Moff Gideon replied. "He perished on Lothal."
"Who killed him?" the Eighth Brother asked. "Lord Vader?"
"You have been clinging to life for almost a decade now," Moff Gideon replied. "Kanan Jarrus, or as he was known before, Caleb Dume, was killed during an attack on the TIE Defender project. Lothal is now free from our grasp, but I have no need for it."
"Then tell me the location of Ahsoka Tano!" the Eighth Brother snarled. He got up and grabbed his lightsaber, activating it. "Even she must be alive!"
Moff Gideon glared at the Eighth Brother. "There are rumors that she still lives," he said. "But unless you put your weapon away, you will never know, and you will never have the revenge you seek on the last of the ones who put down the Inquisitor program."
The Eighth Brother growled and deactivated his lightsaber. Feeling a new holder on his back, he placed it there.
"What do you want from me?" the Eighth Brother asked.
"The Empire has fallen, with Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine over the Battle of Endor," Moff Gideon started to explain. "But we remnants still remain. We are currently part of a bigger project, one that involves capturing the last known Youngling of the Jedi Order. It was stolen from me by a Mandalorian, Din Djarin."
"A Mandalorian and a Jedi?" the Eighth Brother asked. "That sounds… unlikely."
"Ever since I laid waste to Mandalore, I know of all Mandalorians," Moff Gideon explained as he led the Eighth Brother down a hallway, where he saw a room with red lights and several tall black bodies lined up, all with red eyes. "Currently, he still has the asset with him, but thanks to agents we have hired on Nevarro, we can track his movements. He has just departed from Corvus."
"So you want me to hunt down one last Jedi?" the Eighth Brother asked.
"You are the last of the Inquisitors, and everyone knows that no one hunts Jedi like you," Moff Gideon said. "By default, you are now the Grand Inquisitor. No one else stands to oppose you or challenge you for that title."
"Thank you, I am honored," the Eighth Brother replied as they approached the Hangar, where he saw an advanced TIE Fighter. "Lord Vader's TIE?"
"It was salvaged from the debris on Kef Bir, though his lightsaber was known to be intact, it was lost," Moff Gideon said. "In any case, we have since rebuilt it, and modified it with the last of the TIE Defenders. It is yours now… if you help in finding and securing the asset."
"Before I give my answer, who is giving the orders to take this child?" the Eighth Brother asked. "Why would we want a Youngling?"
"His species is the same as that of the Grand Jedi Master, Yoda," Moff Gideon replied. "But his blood, from which very little we have exhausted so far, gives off a high Midi-Chlorian count, which we need for something… special."
"On whose orders?"
"Have you ever been to Exegol?" Moff Gideon asked.
"We answer to a Sith?" the Eighth Brother asked. "Lord Vader trained another apprentice after Marek, didn't he?"
"You have met him, or at least, his original self before he perished," Moff Gideon said. "He will be most pleased to see you again."
Soon, the Light Cruiser came out of hyperspace over Exegol. Moff Gideon led the Eighth Brother onto his shuttle before it flew down.
Present…
The Eighth Brother walked out of his chambers and towards the bridge, where Admiral Lyste was waiting.
"Is the shuttle here?" the Eighth Brother asked.
"In due time," Admiral Lyste replied. "We just need to—"
All of a sudden, the cruiser started to move downwards into the upper atmosphere of Earth.
"I did not give authorization to move!" Admiral Lyste called out to the crew. "What is the meaning of this?!"
"Sir, we had to change our position because of a large creature circling the planet." One of the officers reported.
"What kind of creature?" Admiral Lyste asked.
All of a sudden, a distant roar was heard. Everyone looked before the display monitor came up, showing the large dragon Pokémon, Rayquaza, making its way past where they once were positioned.
"We have received rumors that it can destroy entire vessels with blasts of some sort," another officer reported. "What it uses we do not know, but we felt it was best to not provoke it."
"Agreed," the Eighth Brother said as he and Admiral Lyste started to recover themselves. All of a sudden, a system went off. "Report."
"The shuttle from Moff Gideon's fleet has arrived."
The Eighth Brother and Admiral Lyste soon entered the Hangar Bay, where a Sentinel shuttle arrived. It landed as the two leading forces of the Remnants walked over. When the ramp lowered, several troopers in black armor with red and dressed like Inquisitors walked out, electrostaffs on their back and with blaster carbines armed.
"Purge Troopers?" Admiral Lyste asked. "They seem to be much for a child, I must say."
"Never underestimate a Jedi, especially a Youngling," the Eighth Brother said before red eyes came from the shuttle. As the Purge Troopers lined up next to the two, purple lights came with the red glowing eyes, followed by metal clinking. Soon, droids that had electrostaffs and with cloth over them walked out, each lining up like the Purge Troopers. "Just what I ordered."
"The droids that served General Grievous," Admiral Lyste said. "A wise choice."
"MagnaGuards… you will serve me well," the Eighth Brother said before walking up to the MagnaGuards. He held out his hand, calling a holo-projector to it, before turning it on and showing Ash from the past week. "Your target is this boy. Name unknown. Do not stop until he is destroyed."
On Earth, with the Razor Crest, everyone was busy setting up for the night. Only a day ago, the group was training with Din until the arrival of a Bounty Hunter by the name of Cad Bane was targeting the Champion of Kalos. Everyone thought it was Diantha, but it was then revealed he was after the Fennekin Champion, further confirming her existence. Even though Ash and Din managed to defeat him, he managed to escape, with Greef Karga tipping off the New Republic on his last known whereabouts. Since that had happened, they decided to spend the night at the forest for a proper rest.
Cynthia was feeling her arm, now in a cast. She flexed her fingers a bit, wincing each time she tried to put her weight onto her right. She looked to her blaster before aiming it to a cloud, held in her left hand. She walked out and started to fire, but her shots were off. She took a deep breath and stood more calmly, gradually improving with her shots as she fired once again.
Inside of the Razor Crest, as everyone was unloading their supplies, Ash was looking to the holocron that Rig Nema had given to him. Pikachu scurried over as he inspected it.
"Alright, I was told to use this so that I could be an Aura Knight, whatever that is," Ash said, getting up and trying to twist open the holocron from both the top and bottom. "Just wish Dr. Nema was more specific on how I open this."
"Pika…" Pikachu said, looking at the holocron as well. He tilted his head before jumping up, using Iron Tail. "Pika… Chu!" he called out, slamming his tail on the holocron, only for Ash to stumble back.
"Whoa!" Ash exclaimed before regaining himself as the others noticed. "Nice try, bud," he said with a chuckle as Pikachu rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. "But I think it's gonna take more than…" he started out before accidentally knocking over Din's Beskar spear. "Wow… look at this!"
"A spear," Dawn mused as Din walked over with Grogu, trying out the new hover pram. "It looks like it's all made out of Beskar."
"It is," Din replied, causing everyone to look to him as Cynthia just placed her hand on her hip. "It was gifted to me by Ahsoka Tano, during my time on the forest moon of Corvus. Very recently, but I haven't used it."
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to be part of a warrior race?" Cynthia asked, walking over.
"Where is this going?" Din asked as everyone watched.
Cynthia looked to the spear before picking it up with her left hand. She weighed it carefully before handing it to Din.
"I think it's part of your duty as a warrior to fight with every weapon at your disposal," Cynthia said. "We don't know what the Empire could throw at us when they finally strike, but given we've been up against the Order of the Night Wind and four trainers with hidden weapons, I would say it's about right to be able to learn to do battle with other weapons besides your blaster. They won't always save you in a fight."
"Unless you're Cad Bane, they will." Iris pointed out.
"My point is, that you need to learn to wield this when you can't use your blaster," Cynthia said, back-stepping to Dawn and reaching for her spear blaster, spinning it so that the blade aimed up. "Observe." she said, running at Din and attacking.
"Wow!" Brock exclaimed.
"Look at her go," Ash said before feeling something. He turned to the Holocron as his eyes glowed. "My Aura?" he asked, the Holocron slowly glowing soon afterwards, just like his eyes.
Din took a step back and held up an arm as Cynthia swung down Dawn's weapon onto him. He backed away and threw her off, but she still slammed away at him until he was backed into the wall. He tried to pull out his blaster, but Cynthia slashed at his arm before aiming at his neck, where no Beskar was protecting him.
"My point is proven," Cynthia said, tossing the spear blaster back to Dawn, who struggled to catch it on the right end before doing so with help from Zoey. "I may be still healing from that shot, but I can still give you a lesson on melee combat. When the next day comes, meet with me. Spear only." She ordered before walking away.
Din only nodded before Ash's eyes stopped glowing. As they did, the Holocron started to open up, causing everyone to look over.
"Looks like we'll be training tomorrow then," Ash said as the Jedi from his first vision appeared, his lightsaber drawn. "For all of us."
"Be careful." Serena said.
As everyone was preparing for a good night's rest, Zoey caught Clemont looking through some of his inventions.
"You looking for something?" Zoey asked, walking over.
"I was working on something from some parts that Ash, Serena and Brock found before we met you," Clemont explained. "It was going to be our way of surveillance in case the Empire was stalking us, but I can't seem to find it anywhere."
"Well, maybe you'll find it in the morning," Zoey suggested as she made her way to her tent, which was shared with Dawn and May. "I'm sure you'll find it then." She said as she slipped off her boots and socks before settling in for the night.
"Yeah, I'm sure I will," Clemont conceded before making his way to his tent with Brock. "Though I hope it didn't get lost too far."
Not too far away, Team Rocket was watching what was going on. They too had tents and sleeping bags set up as they were preparing to rest until the morning.
"Tailing da Twoips was a success," Meowth said as Jessie joined him with a set of binoculars. "And we even got a few more shuttles confiscated from the patrols too!"
"They're gonna train for the rest of tomorrow, huh?" Jessie asked. "Well, no better time than then to do more studying of Grogu."
"I got word from the boss," James whispered, crawling over. "He wants word of our report by the day after tomorrow."
"Well, let's hit the hay," Jessie said, getting to her sleeping bag. "And don't bother my beauty sleep."
"Wobba!" Wobbuffet saluted before resting against a tree.
Away from both groups, the shuttle that Moff Gideon sent landed near a ravine. Some Stormtroopers emerged, with the MagnaGuards standing ready behind them inside.
"Scan around. Look for the Beskar and the Kyber crystal." A Stormtrooper said.
"I've got some footprints," another Stormtrooper said, seeing some infrared footprints on the ground. "Leading towards… what's that?"
"What is it?" Admiral Lyste asked from back on the Star Cruiser.
The Stormtrooper Commander led his two men towards where something was shining. He picked it up, and in his hands was some sort of small device that had bits of the probe droid parts showing from the sides.
"A probe droid, of sorts," the Stormtrooper commander replied. "Seems that the Mandalorian might have an inventor of sorts on his side."
"Activate it, and see what their last known activity was." Admiral Lyste ordered.
The Stormtrooper Commander nodded and booted up the probe droid. It started to beep around for a while before looking around, shining a light in every possible direction.
"What's it doing?" one of the Stormtroopers asked.
"Probably a defense mechanism," another Stormtrooper guessed before it started to spark. "We'll soon get its… wait…" he said as they turned to finally see steam hissing from it.
"Take cover!" the commander ordered. "It's a—"
Before the Stormtrooper Commander could finish, a large explosion went off. From the campsite, the group heard the sound of the explosion, but since it was far away from them, it did nothing to bother them, so they went back to sleep.
"TK-223, what happened?" the Eighth Brother asked, hearing groans from the other end. "What is your status?"
"Reporting," TK-223 replied, getting up and feeling his head before the remaining pieces of the probe droid fell on his head. "They saw us coming." He said before fainting once again.
"Impressive," Admiral Lyste said. "It would seem the Mandalorian must have someone in his new entourage that can see surprise attacks, and created that droid to act as a bomb to throw us off. Reckless and perhaps idiotic, but impressive nonetheless," he commended. "They have a tactical advantage over us."
"I want all deployed droids to start searching the vicinity of the area for the Jedi," the Eighth Brother said. "Do not hold anything back. If they wish to test our patience and our strength, then so be it."
Once the morning came, Grogu was the first one to wake up. He walked around the camp, seeing several Fletchling flying around. He followed one towards Dawn, May and Zoey's tent before using the Force to get in. Unknown to him, the Fletchling flew out already.
In her sleep, Dawn turned and placed a hand over Zoey. Zoey smiled, her face turning red, before placing Dawn's hand on her face, causing Dawn's face to go red this time. Grogu walked towards them and crawled to Dawn, who shifted her leg to the side. Grogu was about to go further before letting out a burp.
At the sound of this, Dawn's eyes went wide, causing her to blush at what she had done in her sleep. She looked around before breathing into her hand and smelling it.
"I know I brushed…" Dawn muttered before seeing Grogu near her. She sighed and picked him up. "You've got to stop doing this," she said. "I highly doubt an actual Jedi would like to look where you are right now." She said before walking out as Grogu cooed.
Soon, everyone was up. Clemont and Brock were preparing a meal for everyone while Din was walking out of the Razor Crest with his spear. While he was waiting for Cynthia, he noticed Dawn sitting down on a rock, watching Grogu playing with Pachirisu and Buneary, Piplup on her lap watching with her.
"I was wondering where the kid went." Din said, walking over.
"You know, he's the human equivalent of five years old," Dawn said. "And kids at the age of five shouldn't be allowed to look at certain areas of girls, like he's been doing lately."
"He's seen a lot in his life," Din said. "I can't really change his curiosities."
"I'm gonna try something with him, if you don't mind," Dawn said as Cynthia walked out, holding a metal staff in her hand, before seeing Din and walking towards him. "Depending on how the day starts, I'll go through with it."
Meanwhile, Ash was looking at the Holocron. Now that it was unlocked, he saw a Jedi, resembling the first one he saw that was also fighting the man with the red lightsaber from his latest vision, going through a technique with his own lightsaber.
"Well, that seems like something I can do," Ash said as the recording stopped. He turned to Pikachu as he scurried over. "Think I could pull that off?"
"Pikachu!" Pikachu exclaimed happily.
Ash chuckled before getting out of the tent. He made sure the space ahead of him was clear before taking out his lightsaber and activating it.
"One…" Ash started, slashing down before slashing upwards. "Two… three…" he went on, slashing to the side before spinning to slash high again. "Four. Repeat." He said before redoing the four steps, in different ways this time.
"Okay, here's what we'll do," Cynthia said to Din, twirling around the metal rod in her hand. "You've got to know how to defend without using your blaster. If you can't use that spear in battle, you shouldn't use it at all."
"What have you got?" Din asked.
"Ready!" Cynthia called out, twirling the staff until it was behind her, while Din readied his spear. She twirled it and slashed at him, which he blocked before she struck at him low. He blocked it as well before slamming the end of the spear at her side. She spun back and kicked the bottom of her staff until she was holding it in a reverse-grip, where she slammed at Din from above. He backed away before she swung it wide, putting him on the defense.
Zoey watched with interest before seeing what Ash was doing. She took note of the pattern he was using before taking out her Blastsword.
"Think fast!" Zoey called out, switching the setting on her weapon before firing.
Ash noticed Zoey upon hearing her call out before using the technique he learned to deflect her blast. He grinned before she fired again, causing him to go through the four steps again, deflecting each blast to the side as she started to get closer. As she did, she noticed Cynthia's pistol on a rock and picked it up, firing at him faster. He went through the numbered steps again, picking up his speed. However, as he stepped forward, Zoey did as well. He soon found himself backing away, but he still continued to count the numbers in his head.
Din spun as Cynthia struck at him before using one of his Vambraces to block a swing. He held it before slamming his spear at Cynthia. She swerved to the side and hit him with her staff in the jetpack, causing him to falter a little.
"Looks like we're both getting somewhere," Cynthia noted as she saw Zoey pushing Ash back. "You catching my lesson yet?" she asked playfully.
"Starting to." Din replied before blocking a series of quick strikes from Cynthia.
"I might be good with my right, but when I use my left, know that I'm holding back," Cynthia said, attacking Din faster as Zoey did the same to Ash. "Know that others won't be holding back like I am."
"They're good!" Serena exclaimed.
"Mando should have known what he was getting into when training with someone like Cynthia." Brock noted.
"And no one is quite as intense as Zoey is." Dawn said, seeing Ash now starting to hold his ground as he deflected the shots faster.
Grogu looked to both Ash and Din on the defensive of the onslaughts of attacks they were getting. Soon, Zoey and Cynthia got closer to Ash and Din, causing him to hold out his hands.
Zoey grinned at Ash, and lowered the borrowed pistol. She aimed the Blastsword again, just as he prepared his lightsaber.
Din slammed his spear against Cynthia's staff, pushing her back. She chuckled and aimed it to prepare for an attack just like Zoey was.
However, before any of them could attack, Zoey's eyes slowly widened, and started to breathe a little. Ash looked to her with confusion as Cynthia started to feel the same thing, causing Din to ease up a little.
Grogu looked to the two, his hands held low in their directions, before holding them out as if he were grasping something.
Both Cynthia and Zoey gasped and felt their throats, starting to gag a little. Ash gasped before Dawn ran to Zoey, now struggling to stand.
"What's wrong?!" Dawn asked.
"Having… trouble… breathing!" Zoey panted.
"What's… happening?" Cynthia choked, struggling to get a breath out as well.
Everyone, including Team Rocket, watched with concern before May noticed what Grogu was doing. She turned back, but gasped and looked to Grogu again, running to him.
"Grogu, no!" May called out, putting Grogu's hands down. As soon as he did, the hold on Cynthia and Zoey stopped, and they started to catch their breaths.
Din helped Cynthia before she could fall and turned to Grogu, being calmed down in May's hands. He placed his spear on his back and ran to Grogu, May now handing him over.
"Kid, no! It's okay!" Din reassured Grogu. "We're training! Not fighting. They're our friends. All of them are our friends!"
"What happened?" Dawn asked as everyone turned to Din and Grogu.
"It's one of his powers, something that just kicks in when he thinks I'm in danger," Din replied. "He did it to a friend of mine by accident once. We were just arm-wrestling, and he thought I was in trouble when she was starting to beat me. It's hard to explain, like everything he does."
"Grogu, I'm glad you're looking out for Mando," Zoey said, walking over before sitting down to catch her breath again. "But he's not in danger. And neither was Ash."
"Why try to save me?" Ash asked. "He knows you longer, right?" he asked Din.
"I guess he sees something special with you," Din replied. He turned to Cynthia as she went to grab herself some water. "Sorry about that. I didn't think he would do that again."
"He wants to protect you. I understand," Cynthia said as Grogu walked over, feeling her arm. She looked to him and patted him on the head. "It's okay. We're not mad. I'm sure you've seen a lot to make you do that. We forgive you."
Grogu cooed again before letting go of Cynthia's cast. She gasped as she felt it, taking it off. She looked to it and flexed her fingers before using her now-healed hand to pat Grogu on the head.
"Guess that's his way of apologizing." Clemont said.
"Well, now I've seen it," Dawn said, walking to Grogu and picking him up. "Since the day hasn't fully started yet, you're coming with me." She said, carrying him just as he tried to get loose to jump at her leg, causing her to stop and tap her foot quickly. She calmed down and continued to walk ahead, with the others behind her.
"What are you doing?" Iris asked.
"Making sure he stays clear of violence for at least a day," Dawn explained before stopping where a painting easel was set up, with a lot of paper on it. "Here we go." She said as she sat Grogu down onto a baby's seat, the table set with a color palette and some brushes.
"This is supposed to keep him clear of seeing what we always do?" Bonnie asked, unimpressed.
"Nene Ne?" Dedenne asked in the same expression.
"He tries to look up… places that girls find personal," Dawn said, trying not to use certain terms around Bonnie. "And from what I've seen, it seems he uses his powers when something extremely violent happens," she went on before turning to Grogu. She took a deep breath and started to perform sign language, causing Cynthia and Din to raise their eyebrows. "'This is called painting. I want you to put onto this paper whatever you see pass by here. Can you do that?'" she asked while performing the sign language.
"You literally just did the signing for 'real cooking is by following your heart and not a recipe'." Cynthia muttered, causing Zoey to stifle back some laughter.
"About half of that meant something else," Din said, half impressed by Dawn's sign language attempt, before stepping up. "But I can take it from here." He said, making the correct motions to Grogu. As soon as he did, Grogu cooed and nodded, causing Din to pat him on the head.
"Whatever passes by?" Iris asked.
"Yeah. And we can leave some of our Pokémon to watch over him, just in case." Dawn replied.
Upon hearing this, Grogu, reached his hand out, and a Pokéball flew behind Iris.
"Well, I'll just let out…" Iris started before the Pokéball hit her in the head, releasing May's Beautifly. "I'll just let…" she went again before two Pokéballs hit her in the head this time, now releasing Serena's Sylveon and Ash's Hawlucha as she got up again, feeling her forehead. "I'll just…" she tried once again, only for half of the Pokéballs of the group, including some of her own, to fly over and hit her forehead, causing her to fall back as Glameow, Buneary, Croagunk, Emolga, Chespin, Bunnelby and Squishy came over, the latter having simply made his own way over with the flying Pokéballs.
"Well, that's one way." Zoey said.
"Oh, no! Iris!" Dawn exclaimed, walking to help Iris back up, her eyes now spinning. "Are you okay?"
"Mm, Martha?" Iris asked. "Is it… cookie time?" she asked before falling unconscious again.
"Looks like she'll be out for a while." Zoey said as Bonnie tried, and failed, to contain her laughter.
"She can rest while we continue training," Cynthia said before looking to Din. "I'll go easy on you once we start up again. I don't want to make the same mistake again."
"Just make sure Grogu doesn't see you go all out." Din said as everyone now walked back, with Dawn carrying Iris back.
"How about you do more of that technique you were doing?" Serena suggested to Ash. "We can go with you to see how you do it."
"The more the merrier." Ash agreed.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu chimed in.
"I like dragons, and I like sushi," Iris said as Dawn hid a chuckle. "Can we stop for dragon roll sushi?"
"Maybe later…" Dawn muttered, now leaving the rest of the Pokémon let out to watch over Grogu.
Once everyone was gone, Grogu looked ahead, with the other Pokémon keeping an eye on him while some of the others played. Upon seeing some movement, he picked up a brush and started to paint.
"Looks like they'll be off on a walk," Cynthia said back at the camp upon seeing Ash taking a walk with Serena, Brock, May and Clemont. She turned back as Zoey was watching over her Leafeon. "Zoey, can you do me a favor in my lessons?" she asked.
"Sure thing," Zoey said, patting Leafeon before making her way over. "Any specific Pokémon you need?"
"Try Gallade," Cynthia said as Dawn and Bonnie watched on curiously. "Since Mando has one of his own, it'll help teach him what I have in mind."
"Okay, but hold nothing back," Zoey said as she took out a Pokéball. "Gallade, ready? Go!" she called out, releasing her Gallade.
"Glaceon, battle dance!" Cynthia called out, releasing her Glaceon.
"Glacia!" Glaceon called out upon being released while Gallade readied himself for a fight.
"What are you getting at with this?" Din asked.
"Before Grogu tried to protect you, I was just fighting with my left hand. You were holding back there, I could feel it," she explained. "You have to learn not to underestimate anyone, no matter if they have a disability or not," she went on. "Zoey, you have the first move, and don't hold back!" she ordered.
"Gallade, use Psycho Cut!" Zoey ordered.
"That's a bit much against a Glaceon." Bonnie mused as Squishy warbled in agreement.
"What's going on?" Dawn asked.
"I can… has cheeseburger." Iris muttered, getting Dawn, Piplup and Dedenne to look at her in confusion.
"She really has a lot of strange things on her mind." Dawn mused.
"Now watch. My Glaceon isn't like any other," Cynthia said as Glaceon ran and leapt off of the Psycho Cut. "Use Outrage!"
"She can use Outrage?!" Zoey exclaimed.
"GGGLLLLAAAYYYY… CCCIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!" Glaceon called out, releasing an Outage attack.
Gallade gasped and tried to dodge, but was hit by the full blast and knocked back, eyes almost close to swirling.
"Gallade!" Zoey called out, running over.
"Whatever you do, make sure you treat any of your enemies with the same seriousness you have for the strongest opponent, even if they are your friends," Cynthia told Din. "And now, since my arm is healed, shall we go at it?"
Din nodded and readied his spear. Seeing Cynthia place her staff behind her back for a wide swing, he copied the stance. The two stared each other down before swinging their weapons at each other, the sound of metal clashing as they did so.
With Ash, Serena, Brock, May and Clemont were watching his moves. Pikachu decided to join in, and lit up his tail to copy his partner's movements.
"That's so cool!" Serena awed as May took out her Bo-Rifle, trying to copy the movements as well. "You learned all this from that thing Dr. Nema gave you, you said?" she asked.
"Yeah," Ash replied as May tried to copy the movements that Ash did, with little success. "I'm only on that first lesson, but I'm sure that if I continue, I'll be able to get further along."
"That's good news," Brock said before looking to Clemont. "You'll be sure to have your hands full. When Ash sets out on training hard, there's no stopping him."
"Trust me, we've learned that." Clemont replied with a chuckle.
Pikachu laughed as well before tripping on something.
"Pika…" Pikachu groaned, causing everyone to stop and go over to tend to him.
"You okay, buddy?" Ash asked.
"Pikachu…" Pikachu replied before looking to what he tripped on. Everyone else turned to his direction as well, seeing a strange marking on the ground made by rocks.
"Who left these here?" May asked, picking up the center rock. When she did, the ground started to give away, revealing a box with the same marking on it.
"What's this?" Serena asked, kneeling down. She took out the box and dusted it off a little before opening it, revealing its contents, which included a lightsaber hilt stained by sand and another that was showing signs of wear.
"Those look like lightsabers, before I customized mine." Ash said.
"Except this one's bigger, and has that strange ring on it." Brock pointed out.
Serena picked up the hilt with the disc and inspected it. She soon managed to find the activation matrix and pressed it, only for nothing to happen.
"I don't think this one's working." Serena said, pressing the matrix again, only for nothing to happen like before.
"Let me…" Ash began as he placed his hand on the hilt, only for everything around him and Serena to go dark. Soon, they found themselves not in the forest, but now in a desert.
"Where are we?" Serena asked.
"I don't know," Ash replied before seeing a man in a robe with a woman in black armor. "That guy… I think he's another Jedi!" he realized.
"But who's that with him?" Serena asked before she and Ash walked forward.
The woman sobbed mournfully as she looked to the lightsaber in her hand. Ash and Serena looked to see it was the same lightsaber Ash was now holding onto, before she dropped it to the ground. As soon as she did, the man helped her up.
"Now you're free," the man said before letting out a sigh. "We both are."
A light flashed over, and Ash and Serena now saw the same woman with a poncho picking up the lightsaber again. She held it to the ground and turned it on, but since the emitter was so close to the ground, Ash and Serena could not see what the color was. She turned it off and removed the crystals before stomping them underneath her foot. She looked to the lightsaber again before handing them to a small creature in a cloak. The creature chittered before walking away, leaving her to limp into the desert.
Ash and Serena came back, causing everyone to gasp as they nearly fell back.
"What happened?" Clemont asked.
"It's a bit hard to explain," Ash said. "But we now know that the crystals powering this lightsaber were destroyed long ago."
"It's a shame," Serena said. "If we were to try our hand at using a lightsaber again, we could have used one of these. I suppose we just need to find a new set of crystals to power them."
"But what about this one?" May asked, looking to the other lightsaber. She weighed it before feeling there was no crystal in it as well. "Make that another crystal we need to get." She mused.
All of a sudden, the group heard some footsteps. They turned to see the MagnaGuards approaching.
"What are those?" Brock asked.
"They look way more advanced than Clembot," Clemont said. "But they don't appear to look like the Stormtroopers Mando had us train against."
The MagnaGuards stood ready, with one of them looking as if it were studying the group. Through its optics, it scanned each one of them before focusing on Ash. Seeing an energy reading from him, as well as the energy radiating from the Kyber Crystal of his lightsaber, its eyes glowed.
"Um, why do I suddenly have a bad feeling about all of this?" Ash asked.
The MagnaGuards marched forward, all taking out their electrostaffs. Everyone gasped at the sight before May took out her Bo-Rifle.
"Stay back!" May demanded before swinging at a MagnaGuard.
The attacked MagnaGuard held up its staff, blocking May's. She gasped before the energy from, the staff flowed through, sending May back with a jolt.
"Pika?!" Pikachu exclaimed.
"Never seen that happen before." Serena mused before taking out her pistol. She shot at two of the MagnaGuards, but they spun their staffs and deflected the shots.
"Normal weapons and blasters don't work," Ash realized as he took out his lightsaber. "So let's try this!" he called out, activating the lightsaber and running at the droids.
The MagnaGuards spun their staffs around faster and started to strike at Ash. He gasped and blocked one of their weapons, surprised to see that they had no effect on the lightsaber like they did on May's Bo-Rifle. He pushed off and slashed at another, but it parried him away, causing him to step to the side and find himself against the back of another. The other MagnaGuards struck at him, but he dodged and used the MagnaGuard on his back as a shield before realizing it was vulnerable. He reversed the grip on his weapon and thrust his weapon back, stabbing the droid in the chest before taking his weapon to block an incoming attack. He used the staff to block another before throwing the weapon to the side, where Serena caught it, as he clashed with another MagnaGuard.
The other MagnaGuards backed away as Ash and the one MagnaGuard clashed. He used part of the technique he had learned to keep it at bay before forcing its staff down. With it distracted, he swung up and slashed at the neck, causing the head to fall off.
"If you all know what's good for you, stand down!" Ash warned the other MagnaGuards as he aimed the lightsaber at them, unaware that the beheaded droid was getting up. "I won't hold—"
"Ash, look out!" Brock called out.
Ash turned around and gasped as the decapitated MagnaGuard swung at him. He dodged to the side and slashed at its staff, only for it to continue to parry his movements. He continued to strike until he got close enough, kicking the held staff up high and slashing it across the chest, causing it to fall in half, and its staff to drop.
"What do we do?" May asked as she took the other staff.
"Run!" Ash replied, shooting at the droids as Brock, Clemont and May followed. Serena held her staff at the ready as the droids slowly advanced, and were followed by two more. The four gasped and ran back, causing the MagnaGuards to follow.
"He's impressive," the Eighth Brother mused as he and Admiral Lyste continued to watch through the probe droid above. "Usually, a beginner would not learn to go for the chest until they take off the head. He did the reverse."
"But who trained him?" Admiral Lyste asked. "A Padawan always has a master."
"Unless they're alone," the Eighth Brother added. "But those are usually still Jedi who fled the Temple. He's too young to be from my time."
Back at the camp, Din and Cynthia were still training. As Dawn and Zoey were with Bonnie watching, they heard a rustling from the bushes. The Coordinators got up and aimed their blasters as Din and Cynthia stopped, only to see Rig Nema arrive in her Nurse Joy disguise.
"Dr. Nema." Cynthia said.
"Wait! I'll do it!" Iris called out, causing everyone to turn to her as she got back up again. "You win, Drayden, I'll… put on my clothes." She said before falling back down once again.
"Um… okay…" Rig Nema said, raising an eyebrow in confusion as Bonnie turned back, trying not to laugh.
"What brings you here?" Bonnie asked.
"I had sensed the holocron I had given to Ash open, and came to see if I could help him train," Rig Nema replied. "I was in the area after Cad Bane's incident, and was willing to offer my assistance if needed."
"They went on a walk," Din replied. "They'll be back…"
Before Din could go on, he turned and shot into the air. Everyone gaped to see he had shot down a MagnaGuard sniper from the tree, now falling lifeless.
"What's that?" Dawn asked.
"A droid capable of fighting a Jedi on equal footing," Rig Nema replied. "But they never travel a—"
"We've got company!"
Everyone turned to see Ash, Serena, Brock, Clemont, and May come back, with the MagnaGuards closing in on them. Without even flinching, Rig Nema reached for a Pokéball in one hand and a lightsaber hilt in the other.
"Rotom, I call upon you!" Rig Nema called out, releasing a Rotom from her Pokéball. "Use Electro-Web!"
Rotom whirred before sending out electricity into the air. It fell back down, creating a web of electricity around one of the MagnaGuards. It fell before the others tried to attack Rig Nema's Pokémon, only for him to fly into the downed MagnaGuard, taking control of it, before striking another one.
"Thanks, Dr. Nema!" Ash called out.
"We will talk later," Rig Nema said before activating a green blade from her lightsaber. She looked to Ash and nodded as he spun his own blade around. "If you have learned the basics, use them now!"
"What?!" Iris called out, getting Din, Cynthia, Zoey, Dawn, Bonnie and Rig Nema to look around. "Do I hear Rayquaza needs someone to hug?!"
"As a doctor, I must wonder… what is wrong with her?" Rig Nema asked.
"Don't ask." Cynthia replied before Iris got up, just as several MagnaGuards looked on as well.
Iris got up groggily and moaned. "I am able! Drayden knows this. The pageant would've been ours had Melanie not put a… Snorunt in my pants!" she proclaimed before once again falling back to sleep.
"It's Dat strange Nurse Joy!" Meowth exclaimed as Team Rocket watched from the bushes, James and Jessie struggling to contain their laughter at Iris's outburst.
"I knew something was up when the twerps got attacked, but her being here is pretty shifty to me." Jessie said.
"Best we keep our distance." James said.
"Wobba…" Wobbuffet said in agreement.
Rig Nema looked up and let out another Pokéball, releasing the evolved form of Honedge, Doublade, into the air. As soon as it was, the probe droid came into view.
"Metal Sound!" Rig Nema commanded, to which Doublade complied by sending out a sonic slash that caused the probe droid to spark, losing sight of her. As it did, a MagnaGuard was sent into the bushes where Team Rocket was, right into Jessie.
"Hey, watch it, bucket head!" Jessie spat, kicking the MagnaGuard off as the probe droid flew back up, catching footage of the MagnaGuard shocking Jessie in the head.
"Oh, Dank Farrik!" James exclaimed upon seeing Jessie's hair stand up.
"Augh!" Jessie screamed, feeling her hair. She clenched her fist as she made her way to the MagnaGuard. "No one gives my hair the shock!"
"Da metal guy asked for it!" Meowth gulped.
Screeching angrily, Jessie scratched at the MagnaGuard's face, scarring it several times, before she grabbed the droid by the head so she could knee it in the chest, causing some bolts to fall out. Roaring again, she brought her fists up and slammed them onto its back before grabbing its staff. She slammed her foot into the droid's chest while using the shaft to bring its face closer to her.
"Give me that stupid metal face!" Jessie yelled, tearing the face right off before stabbing the droid until it was in pieces.
"Whoa…" an officer aboard the Imperial Star Cruiser said as everyone watched on, awestruck.
"Make a note," Admiral Lyste said as even the Eighth Brother stood aghast. "Stray away from that woman."
"Agreed." The Eighth Brother replied quickly.
Ash clashed with two MagnaGuards at the same time while Rig Nema and her Pokémon took on three others, one for each of them. The others took the time to fire at them while Serena was backing away from one of them. She held up her staff to block two of its attacks before slamming it away. As soon as it was out of the way, she slammed one of the ends of her staff at the other MagnaGuard before turning around and stabbing the one she knocked away in the chest.
"Nice work, Serena!" Rig Nema called out before blocking an attack from a MagnaGuard without even turning around. She scoffed and spun around, slashing it off before putting it on the defensive. As another tried to strike her, she simply grabbed its staff before cutting the other in half. With the first MagnaGuard down, she used both weapons to slash the second in half before seeing Doublade and Rotom take down two more. She smirked before tossing the staff in her left hand to Dawn, who caught it just as she fired to keep more away from her and Zoey.
"I'm gonna try this!" Zoey called out, taking out the lightsaber from Zyutu Town. She activated it in her left as she fired on more of the MagnaGuards. One of them tried to slash at her, but she blocked it before using her Blastsword to cut off its hands. As soon as it was disarmed, she stabbed the lightsaber into its head.
"Iris, we could use you up right now." Bonnie said, trying to get Iris up as her eyes went slightly open.
"And Bidoof, and Psyduck, and walnuts, and Grandma!" Iris exclaimed before falling to the ground once again.
"Then again, you could sleep." Bonnie mulled as Dedenne scurried over.
"Nene…" Dedenne said, rubbing his cheeks before giving Iris a shock. She shrieked, but her eyes stayed closed, before falling back down.
"Not the time!" Cynthia called before firing at more of the MagnaGuards. She looked to Dawn as she used both her staff and her spear blaster to fend off against another. She turned and fired at the MagnaGuard about to strike her before Dawn tossed her staff to her in return.
Cynthia smiled and caught the staff, locking with another MagnaGuard about to strike. As she did, Din was using his spear to battle against three more. He prepared to take out his blaster until it was knocked away. Placing both hands onto his Beskar spear, he slammed each of them away until one of them pushed him back. As it tried to slam at his head, he blocked it before remembering the kick that Cynthia used on him earlier.
"Here goes…" Din said before dropping the spear, now holding it by the top. As soon as he held it that way, he kicked the bottom backwards until it came back around, hitting the MagnaGuard on the head. As it fell back in disorientation, he fired his flamethrower at it before stabbing the one on his left in the chest. With it still stuck, he spun and threw it to the one at his right, causing them both to spark.
Ash panted as he backed away from the rest of the MagnaGuards, with his friends trying to fire on the others to help. He blocked each of their moves, using what he had learned from the holocron, before Pikachu slammed his Iron Tail against more of them. As he got breathing room, Ash looked around before finding himself with the same orange-skinned female from his first vision.
"Is this really the best time?" Ash asked.
"Droids are predictable," Ash heard a voice say before seeing the same man with the scar walking around several troopers, who looked a lot less evil than the Stormtroopers. "You need to remain calm. Think. Feel the intention of the trooper who will fire first. You should be able to sense the moment before they pull the trigger."
Ash saw the orange-skinned female nod before coming back to reality. As the droids closed in on him, he looked around, seeing each of them prepare to attack him from all around. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, easing up and adapting a calmer grip on his lightsaber.
"Ash?" Serena asked as Iris slowly moaned, eyes starting to open.
Rig Nema turned to Ash and gaped. "It happened again." She realized.
Soon, the eight droids surrounding Ash started to attack at once. However, Ash kept his eyes closed and fended against each one of them, not getting hit even once. He dodged to the sides as they tried to slash at him before spinning to cut off one of their heads. As another tried to strike, he dribbled the head before kneeing it at the attacking droid while allowing its staff to stab the beheaded one in the chest.
As another MagnaGuard tried to stab at Ash, he jumped up and landed on its staff before slashing its arms and center core off. Backflipping to the ground, he slashed low behind him, taking the legs of another MagnaGuard before stabbing another in the chest. As he pulled out his lightsaber, he elbowed the final one before cutting its staff in half, surprising everyone. As it staggered back, he kicked the pieces of the broken staff into the air before slicing the final droid down the middle. As soon as he did, the others fell as well, just as Iris finally woke up.
"Without even a scratch!" Admiral Lyste exclaimed as the probe droid watched everything. Before it could go on, it was shot down. He groaned and looked to the officers. "Get me another probe and have it sent down there!" he ordered.
"No need," the Eighth Brother said. "I have all I need now," he said before walking to the Hangar where the Purge Troopers and some of the Stormtroopers were waiting. "All of you, with me," he ordered. "Commence Operation Spire. A trap must be set for this Jedi… it is finally time to continue what my brethren failed to finish."
"Ugh, what happened?" Iris asked. "I've got such a splitting headache," she groaned before seeing all of the droids laying around, with Rig Nema deactivating her lightsaber and walking to Ash. "Okay, I feel like I missed a lot."
"Impressive work, Ash," Rig Nema said. "It appears you have learned more than what the holocron has taught you."
"Yeah, I have," Ash replied. "What were these things anyways?" he asked.
"They are known as MagnaGuards. Once they were the bodyguards of the top generals of the Separatist Alliance, one of which was a Jedi killer," Rig Nema replied. "Over time, they were lost and used by others during the reign of the Empire. But it was rumored that they could have wound up in the hands of the Empire themselves, just in case of events of new Jedi rising."
"So, this was all the Empire?" Zoey asked, putting down the lightsaber so that she could drink from her bottle. After doing so, she let out a sigh. "These things are heavier than I though." She mused.
"It must have been. Which troubles me," Rig Nema said, looking to the deactivated probe droid. "Perhaps I can find out who is behind all this with that. No remnants of the Empire should even be operating here," she said before turning back to Ash. "But it would seem that you indeed have what I long thought you to possess with that Aura of yours."
"What do you mean?" Din asked.
"As an Aura Knight, you have an ability that can only be used through your Aura," Rig Nema replied, keeping her attention on Ash. "While you cannot easily use the same abilities that a Jedi has using the Force, you are able to both communicate with Jedi, living or deceased, and peer into our pasts of any experience. Each is connected through a Jedi calling out to you through Aura."
"Does that mean Ezra Bridger was calling to me too?" Ash asked. "That was a Jedi who helped me make the customizations to my lightsaber."
"That is a name I am not too familiar with, but I can only assume he was," Rig Nema replied. "You shall do well in your training further on with all this. You and…" she started before looking around. "Where is Grogu?"
Dawn gasped and turned to where she took Grogu. "Right this way."
Soon, everyone came to where Grogu was, the other Pokémon around playing with each other. They looked to them before seeing Grogu putting down two brushes next to several others that had dry paint on them.
"What was happening here?" Rig Nema asked while chuckling in an impressed way.
"I wanted Grogu to have at least a day without seeing any violence, so I had him stay here to paint whatever he saw." Dawn replied.
"Alright, Grogu. Let's see what you've…" Din started before seeing Grogu admiring a large painting he did, made from every piece of paper provided to him. "Not bad, Kid."
"How did he do?" Bonnie asked as everyone came over. Upon seeing what was draped over the easel, all their jaws dropped.
On the papers, all connected, were every Legendary Pokémon that Ash and his friends came across, from Mew to Arceus. Each of them were seen at different places from the environment across from Grogu, with some of them even flashing peace signs.
"What exactly… did I miss?" Iris asked.
"He saw Arceus?!" Brock exclaimed.
"Grogu, did you really see all of these Pokémon?" Dawn asked skeptically.
"Jedi never lie about what they experience, or record experiencing," Rig Nema replied, looking to the painting with an impressed look on her face. "This exact place is known for being where rare Pokémon like to cross."
"What?" May asked blankly, still in surprise.
"It is said by people here that they have caught even the most legendary of Pokémon crossing across the valley, and some have even left behind items to remember them by," Rig Nema replied as she looked to a rainbow-colored feather in Grogu's head. "And it would seem Ho-Oh left him a rare Rainbow Wing."
"What?!" Zoey asked this time, also in blank surprise.
"But none have ever caught all of them at once," Rig Nema went on. "We give out a Pokédex to those who catch these rare sights with the data on all they find on it. Which means Grogu is the first to prove worthy to behold Arceus and all of the Legendary Pokémon."
"What?!" Cynthia asked in complete shock.
"I give him a day to stop looking up my skirt… and he was worthy to see all the Legendary Pokémon," Dawn said as everyone, save for Din, dropped to their knees in bafflement. Without even turning, she patted Grogu on the head. "We've underestimated you."
"This is the way… I suppose." Din could only say.
