Carmen smiled. "Yes." He put the ring on her finger. They kissed.
Two months passed. Carmen would watch Randy on TV with pride. Unbeknownst to them Max had been spying on them. Today Carmen and Randy were going on a weekend trip to St. Charles, Missouri to see Randy's parents. It was an hour away. Carmen was very nervous. She and Randy had just went into the house.
"We're here." Randy said. His parents Elaine and Bob came into the living room. They hugged Randy. "Mom, dad, this is my fiancée, Carmen Wilkes."
"You are just as pretty as Randy described." Bob said.
"Thank you." Carmen said.
Carmen and Elaine were in the kitchen getting coffee.
"I know how it must look with Randy and I getting engaged so fast." Carmen said. "I want you to know that I love him."
"I know you do and I know he's crazy about you." "I know you'll make a great wife."
Carmen and Randy were out to dinner after the visit.
"Do you think they like me?" She asked.
"I know they like you." "Carmen what would you think about buying a place here in St. Charles?" "We can start fresh." "Max won't be able to bother us anymore."
"We can start looking for houses."
The following week Carmen was driving home. She hadn't felt well lately had a doctor's appointment tomorrow. She saw flashing lights.
"Please tell me that's not know I think it is." She thought as she pulled over.
She put her hands on the wheel. Sure enough Max came up to the window.
"License and registration please." She handed it to him.
"What do you want Max?"
"You were speeding?"
"The hell I was."
"Where's Mr. steroids?"
"If you mean Randy, he's working."
"What the fuck is that?" He said pointing to the ring on her left hand.
"I'm marrying Randy."
"You can't be serious?"
"I am." "I love him, I don't love you." He gave her her things back. "I'm going to report you if you don't stop."
"How well did that work out for you last time?"
"I hate you." He walked away and drove off.
The next day Carmen gave a urine sample at her appointment. The doctor came in.
"Congratulations Carmen, you're pregnant." She said.
