Tyler woke up suddenly at the sound of someone's alarm. He turned to look at the time and felt a soreness in his backside.
"Uh," Tyler moaned.
Connor hit the off button on the alarm, saying,"Wake up sleeping beauty. We let you sleep in 'cause of your 'rough night.' Now, get up already."
Connor laughed and tossed a t-shirt on Tyler's head. He used it to wipe his face. He had been sweating.
"Thanks, I guess," Tyler replied, wiping at his eyes. God, he needed a blood bag. Now that Caroline was a vampire, they could feed off each other in small doses. When they could swing it, they even did it at school. Caroline was back to running things for the decade dance and could easily add Tyler to one of her hall passes. She actually did make him help with dance preparations, which he found boring. Tyler had finally spoken to Caroline briefly before bed. He had told her he understood why she had moved back home.
Kai snickered, "You better find some clothes. Uncle Elijah took everything off the floor. You can wear my white polo if you need to."
Tyler sat up, "Um, thanks. My freaking shirt was clean, though. Damn, can't that man tell?"
Erik snickered, "Most grown folks might disagree, but I'm with you on this one."
Connor told Erik and Aaron to hurry up and they left, leaving only Kai and Tyler in the bedroom. Kai was putting on his watch and looked back at Tyler.
"You gonna make it today? I thought Caroline was making us all help with some kind of banners or something."
Tyler smirked thinking like he had a choice to go to school today. Unless their vitamin levels were off, vampires rarely got sick. He sometimes missed the times when he could fake a stomach ache when he was human...Sitting was not going to be enjoyable if this throbbing in his backside continued. Plus, he had physical education today.
"Yeah, get ready to paint your ass off. If it looks sloppy, she will make you redo it...My dad really lit up my butt last night," Tyler admitted. "That whole thing yesterday...What the fuck, man?" Kai asked carefully.
The Heretic witch and vampire's dark hair was slicked back and he was fully dressed, but he needed to have it out with Tyler. Tyler wasn't much of a talker in the morning.
"I think you owe Jer an apology," Kai said seriously. "You know that he and I have had our differences over Bonnie...but he's a good kid. Ty, we're a lot stronger than him. You shouldn't use that to fuck with him."
"I know. Caroline yelled at me for being an asshole," Tyler grunted, getting up to use the bathroom. He realized that he was still bare bottomed, but he really had to go. "I'll talk to him."
"Do that," Kai said. "'Cause if you don't, I'll whup your ass again."
Tyler shook his head, the pressure on his bladder causing him to move faster to the bathroom.
"You're a freak, Kai," Tyler called out, as he urinated, with the door open.
Kai replied, "I guess I'm being a hypocrite here. But you know us witches have to balance out nature."
Tyler finished and flushed, leaving the toilet seat up. He washed his hands and splashed his face with some cold water. Then, he turned and looked at his backside in the mirror. It was no longer red, but he could tell that the paddle had done a number on him.
Kai walked closer to the doorway and whistled, "Ouch! You did really get it bad, huh? I feel like when I siphoned you, it stopped your healing..."
Tyler rubbed the pinkish skin, feeling the tenderness.
"I thought Dad would feed me some of his blood," Tyler commented. "I guess he's getting stricter with me. None of that salve is left, huh?"
"Nope," Kai said. "Plus, I don't think you deserve it. Tyler, do you get what I am saying? You used your power over Jeremy. That's not cool."
Tyler took off his sweaty t-shirt and tossed it in the laundry hamper.
"Yeah, I get it. I do it again and you will use your new trick on me," Tyler remarked. "Typical. You know, I could just tell your moms what you did...Or Jo?"
Jo was Kai's twin. She hadn't been a siphon witch and practiced regular magic, but she was studying hard to be a medical doctor. Keelin, one of their adopted moms mentored her and got her to take some college credits. Kai preferred to work in the family lab in the basement on his experiments and herbal spells under the guise of helping with the salve business.
Kai grimaced, "Tyler, go on, do it. I'll never talk to you again. Jo already thinks I am a madman half the time. Can you just man up and admit that you were wrong? You spanked Jeremy really hard. He may have been a hunter, but now he's human. Without the salve, his butt would have been bruised and a lot sorer than yours today."
Tyler turned on the water in the single shower. They also had a group shower room next door.
Tyler stepped in under the icy cool spray to wake himself up. He rinsed his head and finally said, "Yeah, fine. He spit in my face...but I guess I was a dick to. Look, I'll apologize, but let's just keep what happened last night between us. Tell Matt, too. And maybe we ought to stay away from the hangout for a while...I think they are jealous or something."
Kai nodded, "Yeah, okay. Deal. You better hurry up. If we are late again, we're all getting detention."
Tyler soaped up his body and muttered, "That's all we need. We good, man?"
Kai smirked, "Yeah, just watch that butt of yours today. You can't take another licking."
Tyler opened the glass door and fired the wet bar of soap at Kai's head. He laughed and dodged it, letting it fall harmlessly into Erik's bed.
Kitchen
Elijah referred back to his lunch list. Some of the teens packed their lunches and others purchased from school. He made sure that they each got a drink, which was animal blood for the vampires, which they were told to say was tomato juice if questioned. They also got a fruit, vegetables, a protein, and a small dessert.
"Silas, would you like an apple or a pear?" Elijah inquired, looking at the handsome doppelgänger.
"I don't care," Silas said, reading the newspaper, and finishing his eggs.
"If you enjoy the Wall Street Journal, I can have a subscription sent over to your house," Elijah offered.
"No, I was just thinking this was really boring," Silas smiled. "Sorry."
Elijah returned the smile, now moving on to Matt's lunch.
"It's fine. I know I'm a bit stricter than your father," Elijah noted. "I don't mean to be overbearing. It is just that with the number of children here, we need to stay on a certain routine. You understand that, right?"
Silas put the newspaper down. "Yeah, I mean I guess Aaron and I just aren't used to it..."
Aaron went to get his backpack, giving Sadie a quick pet.
"Plate in the dishwasher, please," Elijah directed, pointing at the plate on the island.
"Ugh, give me a minute," Aaron snapped. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at his Original vampire uncle. He glanced around and figured Kol and Georgie were still sleeping, like normal people. Elijah seemed to enjoy bossing the teens around. Matt came through and grabbed his lunch, as did Jeremy and Erik.
Matt said, "Hurry up, Silas. We'll be in the truck."
The teens often took two or three cars to Mystic Falls High School as they all couldn't even fit in the huge SUV anymore.
Elijah's lips tightened. He took a breath and leaned back on the counter with his arms folded. He was dressed in a charcoal gray suit and tie.
"I realize that," Elijah said. "But I do not wish to receive the attitude and snark that you have been giving me. Or there are going to be consequences. The others see the disrespect and I cannot let it stand. Consider this your warning."
Silas picked up the plate and tossed it in the dishwasher as Elijah watched.
"Thank you," Elijah said. "Don't forget your lunch. Have a good day at school."
Silas felt the urge to cover his behind as his uncle looked ready to swat him.
"Um, thanks," Silas said. "You, too." Then, he felt dumb as he realized Elijah wasn't going to school. "Shit," said under his breath, finally relaxing when he got into the truck.
Erik grinned, "Don't fuck with him. You best watch that 'tude."
Matt's eyes met Silas' in the rear view mirror as he opened the garage door and started to back out.
"He's right," Matt replied. "You are cruising for a bruising. And your dad isn't gonna help. Uncle E. will lean him over the counter for the ruler just as quick as us. I swear it."
Silas met Aaron's eyes. "That's bullshit. Our dad is an Original, too. He doesn't have to take that crap."
Erik smirked, "You would be surprised. I think I heard Aunt Freya even threaten to whoop my dad once. They were fighting about Penny, well, being Penny and boy did he straighten up fast."
Aaron sunk back in his seat, "Silas, maybe we should go stay with Aunt Bekah? She's cool."
Silas answered, "Nah, I like the main house. I'm not going to be intimidated by Uncle Elijah. He's not our dad.'
Kol and Georgie's Room
Morning
An Hour Later
Georgie was putting on a bikini as Kol slept. She finished and then bounced on the bed to wake him.
"Come on, it's still nice out. Let's swim," Georgie coaxed.
"Woman, you kept me up half the night," Kol said. "Not that I am complaining."
The new saffron that the Indian guy at the Grill had given him was a success. The engaged couples' love life had never been better, and it was pretty good before.
"Good, cause if you did, we'd have a problem," Georgie said, not straddling Kol.
"I told Keelin that I would take Rosie and Joey to school and some program at the library this morning. Want to come with?" Kol asked, grabbing her and settling her aside.
"Boring," Georgie said. "I have wedding shit to do. You know, Halloween will be here before we know it."
"You just said you were going to swim," Kol clarified. "My brothers and sisters have been very generous with us. Do you know how much those renovations are costing?"
Georgie used her vampire agility to jump out of bed and land on her feet.
"No, and I don't care," Georgie complained. "Do you ever feel like your family is like...a little, um, rigid?"
Kol was going to reply when he saw her bikini. She was now looking out the window, peering down on the south lawns.
"Bloody hell, Georgie. What the hell are you wearing?"
Georgie was in a white thong that showed off her sculpted backside and body art.
"What?" Georgie questioned, turning to her beloved. "I thought you would like it!"
"I do," Kol heaved. "But you can't wear that around the house. Um, there are children here and my brothers!"
"Kol Mikaelson, don't slut shame me! I can wear what I want," Georgie snapped. "And your brothers don't give a shit what I wear."
Kol reddened, feeling his body respond eagerly. It wasn't just the saffron aphrodisiac either.
"I know," Kol said. "Ah, come here."
"No," Georgie pouted. "You are being mean."
"Georgie, come here or I'm going to hide that cute little bottom of yours," Kol warned. "And you will not like it."
Georgie wiggled her backside, purring, "But what if I do like it?"
Kai vamped to her and flipped his girl over his lap, peppering her backside with strong smacks.
Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!
"Ohhhhh, harder!" George yelped, giggling.
"My bleedin' hand is gonna fall off," Kol roared back, swatter harder.
"Get that little strap I bought," Georgie demanded. "It's in your underwear drawer...with your silky boxers."
Kol rubbed her behind and set her on her feet, admiring the view.
Knock. Knock.
Kol groaned, "Fun's over. Can we raincheck this? I told ya I have to go..."
Georgie pouted prettily, "Fine. I might have to go into town and find someone else to play with!"
"You do that and you won't sit for a month, lovely girl," Kol whispered. "Now, behave yourself."
Georgie stuck her tongue out and slapped her backside. "Never!"
"At least, put some trousers on!" Kol called as he got up and slipped on a robe.
Georgie greeted Keelin at the door. She winked at Kol and walked out of the room with her pink bottom hanging out. Keelin even turned and looked at the younger vampire with big eyes.
"Nice bikini, Georgie," Keelin said. To Kol, Keelin laughed, "Um, if Freya wore stuff like that around the house, I might be concerned..."
"I cannot think of my sister like that," Kol said with a groan. "I feel like Georgie might be giving me gray hair. I didn't think it was possible, but I found one yesterday. Maybe two."
Keelin nodded, "I bet. Hey, I know you were going to take the kids today, but Freya left already. They were going to go for breakfast first and Freya wanted to look something up at the library. But there was something I wanted to talk to you about."
"That's fine," Kol responded. "I am shite with those carseats. Joey always yells at me for making his too tight, while Rosie's is too loose. Then they get rather cross with me when I don't know the right songs to play in the car. I mean how many times can one listen to 'The Wheels on the Bus?'"
"'They go round and round,'" Keelin repeated. "And the answer is 27 times. We counted when we took them to the beach in the summer. The older kids were losing their minds. We had to buy them all headphones."
Kol went over and grabbed a blood bag from the mini-fridge by the entertainment center.
"I'd offer you one, but...," Kol said, putting out the 'straw' and sipping.
"No thanks. Can we sit down though?" Keelin asked.
"Of course," Kol said, plopping down on the couch. He turned on the t.v. and muted the sound. He liked the t.v. on the sports channels so he could check the scores.
"Has Kai seemed distracted and off to you?" Keelin asked, taking the chair to the left. "I know he is working on some weird stuff in the lab, but he usually shares what he finds out. I've been spending a lot of time with Jo, helping her with her college course. I just feel like there is something he's not telling me."
Kol frowned, "Yeah, he did find out about some new herbs from that Indian bloke at the Grill. Sharma? I spoke to him myself when I went by the other day. Nice chap."
"Yeah, but he told me that he really liked Sharma. Kai also said he was going to try that saffron but that you had a talk with him. That thing with him and Jeremy fighting over Bonnie," Keelin noted. "I don't know. Kai was just acting guilty this morning before he left for school. I only saw him for a second."
Kol exhaled,"Okay, so I took Sadie out this morning as she was scratching on my door. Matt and Jeremy were up early and eating...I may have overheard them chatting."
Keelin's face grew suspicious. "Kai, spill it. You know it all comes out in the end."
Kai shrugged, "I don't know exactly what happened but they mentioned something about Kai siphoning Tyler? Something about the boys getting into a row and Kai thrashing the devil of out Ty. I wanted to ask, but then Elijah came down and I went back to bed."
"Siphoning?" Keelin asked. "He knows better than to do that shit. Freya would flip her lid if she saw this... Not that I haven't wanted to take a few whacks at Tyler myself lately."
"Tyler can be a hot head," Kol admitted. "He needs a firm hand and honestly at times a hiding seems like the only way to get him to settle down. But maybe I misheard? Sadie was barking at a mole and I might have been mistaken..."
"Your hearing is pretty damn good," Keelin stated. "I will speak to Kai and I won't say how I heard. Siphoning is not something we want Kai doing without permission. But there is one more thing...Not sure I should say anything."
"What, luv?" Kai said gently. "You know you can tell me anything. Is it about Georgie? I know she can be a lot."
"No, Kol," Keelin said, crossing her legs and then recrossing them. "Um, it's about Silas. He's been grumbling about the rules around here. You know, bedtime and cleaning up. I told him I added him and Aaron to the chore charts and he kinda snapped at me."
Kol's eyebrows shot up, "He snapped at you? Keelin, he should know better. I am sorry."
Keelin smiled, "It's not your fault. He's at that age and I know this is an adjustment for your boys."
"Has Aaron been getting cheeky, too?" Kol prompted.
"Not as much, but he threw down his school stuff by the door and Lukas tripped over it yesterday," Keelin said. "Freya asked him to move it and he got a bit nasty. I heard him bitching about it under his breath. She didn't hear him, but I did."
"Not acceptable. I will have a chat with them tonight," Kol determined. "I suppose I have been too focused on Georgie and not looking after them as I should. Over the summer, we kind of got out of our routines. Thanks for bringing this up. I'm surprised Elijah hasn't reamed me yet."
Kol glanced at the small bottle of saffron and other herbs that Kai made as an aphrodisiac. He needed to lock that stuff up and focus on being a better parent.
"I think Elijah is heading to Louisiana today," Keelin added. "Something about Marcel needing help there?"
Kol was alarmed. "Okay, I better go see what is afoot. And please, if anything else happens with my boys don't be afraid to come to me."
Keelin stood, saying, "Same with you. Kai really looks up to you. Kol, I can't tell you how much that means to Freya and me..."
Kol smiled, "Aye, but you are his mums. He wouldn't be the lad he is today without your love and support. Truly, Keelin."
Keelin swiped at her eyes, "Don't make me cry. I am heading down to the lab. Freya is testing some new spells in case those fucking angels come for us again."
"Any progress?" Kol asked.
Keelin shrugged, "Not much. It's like it's a different form of magic, no one has seen before. But you know your sister, she won't stop until she finds a way to protect us all."
"That's your wife for you," Kol remarked. "I better get dressed. I feel like it's going to be one of those days."
Crescent Academy
New Orleans, Louisiana
Hayley's Office
Earlier that day
Marcel tapped at his iPad and then looked up at Hayley rushed into the room. She was dressed in a navy blue maternity dress and had her long brown hair pulled up in a pony tail. Her hazel eyes regarded Marcel warmly, but she looked winded.
"Hey, sorry I'm late," Hayley apologized. "One of the new students burned off Professor Vardemus' toupee in the magical theory class. All the kids were laughing and tried to play it off by continuing to teach with his head smoking. Being great at magic does not make one a great teacher...he has zero classroom management."
Marcel chuckled, smoothing down his cream colored dress slacks, saying, "I thought he was wearing a rug. Last night at night, he kept scratching at it. He's an odd fellow. How's the new pool?"
"It's wonderful. Emily said the salt water helps her turn and the rest of us have been using it, too," Hayley gushed. "Even Henry has learned to swim. I have to thank Elijah again. It's funny but I noticed the vampires stay clear of the water. Is that a thing?"
Marcel scratched his nose, "Yeah, when I was human, I used to look to take a dip in the Mississippi anytime I could...But the water just feels really odd when you are a vampire. Not painful, just too intense. I can't really explain it. Plus, we don't get as hot. Um, Hayley, there are a couple of things I would like to talk to you about."
Hayley got a bottle of water and tossed Marcel one too.
"Sure, anything," Hayley said. "Oh, did Jack should you the new gym? It's state-of-the-art. He's worked really hard on it. Y'all should go down there."
"I will," Marcel promised. "I think he told Tommy he'd take him for a workout. He's thinking of joining the basketball team at school. He's been practicing at home, but playing against the hybrids is pointless. They can jump like ten feet in the air."
"I believe it," Hayley said. "Now, what did you want to discuss. Things have been going well. The trinity has been behaving. The new vampire Sebastian has been settling in. You know, we've had a few witch fights, but they worked things out. Wolves have been training hard. Will, the former cop has been a great help. Um, Emma's therapy skills have been a miracle with some of the kids. No one has left campus, we've been doing really well with the lockdown. Kids are content to use the game room and we have a weekly movie night."
Marcel grinned, "I am so proud of you. This was your dream. Did you get that crop of kids from the Bayou?"
"Yes, most of them have joined. Some were on their own for months out there living in tents. Eve comes up from time to time to visit them. We put some on security detail, patrolling the grounds. They seem to thrive off the responsibility. We've been getting new students steadily as word spreads. I mean, some of them are non-paying, but the gardens the witches put in are really helping with the food budget-."
"It's not about money," Marcel said. He looked at Hayley's baby bump. She should be around four months pregnant, but looked much further along. "Hayley, I am just going to come out and ask. Ah, are you drinking blood?"
Hayley's face colored. She fiddled with the water bottle, tearing off the label and opened her mouth.
"Marcel," Hayley said finally. "I can't help it. I, um, wake up at night and find myself in the kitchen. I tried eating my meat lightly cooked, but the only thing that satisfies me is blood. Jack doesn't know."
Marcel squeezed his eyes shut. "Honey, this isn't your fault. Thank you for telling me. I should have been down here in the summer..."
Hayley frowned, "No, everything is fine. You got married and went on your honeymoon. Plus, you and Rebekah have five years and all those businesses now. I should have told you."
Marcel's eyes shifted to the wood paneled office. It looked like his old office in the compound in the French Quarter. That comforted him.
"I have to ask and I hate to do this," Marcel gulped. "But is the baby Jackson's?"
Hayley stared a minute. If it was anyone else, she would be angry, but this was Marcel. He and Rebekah had taken her in for months when she needed him. She knew that had to have been a difficult question.
"Ah, so I was no virgin when I met Jackson, but since I got to the Bayou, there has never been anyone else," Hayley said with conviction. "No one."
Marcel had expected that answer.
"I apologize for asking. When you were kidnapped? Were you ever unconscious?" Marcel went on.
Hayley's face fell. "Oh God, Marcel! What are you thinking? Yes, there were a couple of times I woke up like out of it. I didn't know how much time had passed. I was alone...but I don't think I was attacked."
Marcel stood and went over and knelt by here.
"Honey, none of this is your fault," Marcel reasoned, gripping her hands. "But you know that Caroline gave birth to the triplets. Then, Rebekah was able to breastfeed them...We did a DNA test. They are ours, biologically. Like mine and Rebekah's. How that is? We have no idea. We just found out."
Hayley pulled away from Marcel and rushed to the attached bathroom and vomited. He gave her a moment and waited until she came out wiping her mouth with a towel.
"I should have suspected," Hayley said dryly. "Jackson and I always used protection and I was on birth control. And the baby is growing too fast..."
Marcel nodded, "I didn't want to mention that. I thought maybe it was a wolf thing."
Hayley smiled without mirth. "I thought so, too. You know some packs have different things going on, some are stronger, faster. But it's not a Crescent thing. Oh my God, what am I gonna tell Jack?"
Marcel went to her, "Nothing, right now. Has Nurse Lou mentioned anything about the baby's heartbeat?"
"Yeah, she said it was fast," Hayley recalled. "We thought it was just a supernatural thing...like the baby growing quickly. Marcel, what am I carrying?"
Marcel ran a hand through his cropped hair.
"We don't know. But with the heartbeat and you drinking blood. It could be half-vampire. I'd like to do a DNA test."
Hayley fell into the leather couch although the wall.
"Sure. But who is the father? I mean, is this even my baby? I already love him or her so much," Hayley said, finally breaking down. Marcel sat beside her and held her.
"Let it out, honey," Marcel soothed. "I know you are strong, but you are allowed to be sad right now."
Hayley wept as she hadn't let herself do in months.
"Why me?" Hayley sniffed. "I wanted Jackson's baby."
Marcel pulled back and looked the young werewolf in the eyes.
"You know what my Papa says...'Blood doesn't make you family, love does.' And he's right. This baby will need a father and Jackson Kenner is a hell of a guy. He loves you and this baby. He's not going to stop that if..."
Marcel couldn't continue. They didn't have proof that this child wasn't Jackson's, but Marcel had never heard of a wolf craving blood. Now, meat, yes, but pure blood...Never.
"Didn't your dad also say 'Family are not just people who coddle you, who grant you your every whim. They are people who fight for you, who you fight for?'" Hayley pressed.
"Yeah, but I am not coddling you," Marcel said. "We're going to find out what's going on here. I'm going to call Elijah and maybe Freya. I don't want to worry you but Father Sean said there was a disturbance at the tomb."
Hayley's eyes went wide. "No, I thought those angels couldn't break free of the Serraturra!"
Marcel nodded, "That medallion was supposed to create an unbreakable boundary that can trap any being living or dead. But here's the thing, they are gone."
The angels from the cult that had kidnapped Hayley had been trapped deep below a tomb in Lafayette Cemetery in the Garden District. Witches from the nine covens and the human faction had been guarding it day and night. Yet Sean had called Marcel with the news before he arrived at the school today.
Hayley's eyes rolled back in her head and she fainted. Marcel picked her up and carried her to the infirmary. If Marcel's hunch was correct, they were coming for the child.
