"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown."

Mikaelson Compound

Mystic Falls, Virginia

Elijah's Study

"But I should go, too," Klaus protested. "If this had to do with me and Hayley, should I not be there?"

Elijah carefully put the DNA swab into the tube. He took off the latex gloves and threw them in the trash.

Freya put an arm on Klaus' forearm.

"Niklaus, I don't think that is a good idea. We need you here," Freya said. "And think of it from Hayley's perspective. If Marcel is right, you may be the last person she wants to see."

Klaus erupted, "I barely know the girl! And I certainly never...Oh hell, you are right, Sister. I'm sorry, it's just I had hoped this was over."

Kol shrugged, "It's never over. We knew this cult believes hardily in this prophecy. Did you find out anything at the library, Freya?"

Freya pulled out a binder of papers.

"I'm not sure," Freya said. "I convinced the librarian to let me go to the archives. They have some old grimoires and bibles don't there from way back to the 1600s."

Kol sighed and recalled, "Oh, those were the days. I was in Spain then. Elijah and Nik were in what? Italy, trying to create decoys to throw off Father. And Bekah was..."

"She fled to England with some Marquis, a Frenchman. Well, at least he wasn't a Hunter of the Five," Klaus remarked dryly. He still felt a flash of irritation remembering some of Rebekah's ill-fated romances. The one in the 12th century almost ended them for good.

"That had been in the 1110s, Kol," Elijah added. "And Niklaus took four hundred years to return to Italy. Isn't that right, Brother?"

Klaus groaned, "I was cursed for almost a century by those damned hunters. But you were saying, Freya? We need to focus. The safety of the whole world could be in jeopardy."

"Niklaus is correct," Elijah agree, winking at Kol. "Continue, please."

Freya flipped through her notes.

"I didn't have a lot of time as the story time the kids attended was only an hour. Here, in this version of the Book of Enoch, they talk about watchers. Those were the angels dispatched to Earth to supervise the humans. Soon, they began to lust after human women. Their leader, according to this text, Samyaza, instructed them to procreate with these women. The offspring were the Nephilim, savage giants who started to pillage the Earth and endangered humanity," Freya began.

"Okay, we knew most of that," Elijah said, referring to his file. "What new information did you uncover?"

"This Samyaza supposedly taught humans technologies like weaponry, cosmetics, and even sorcery. In this text, God sent Uriel to warn Noah to save the human race before the Great Flood. But listen to this," Freya begun to quote, "'The watchers are bound in the valleys of the Earth until Judgment Day...'Then, in Jude, verse 6, it goes on 'And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.'"

Klaus frowned, "At the risk of sounding daft, what the bloody hell does that mean?"

"That angels taught humans magic. If we could find one who was a chief, maybe we could end this. Figure out a way to send them back without ending the world? That's all they really want...to go home," Freya said sadly. "The names of the chiefs are listed here. Elijah, do you have that file from the Strix?" Freya went on.
"Yes, it's right here. Read me the names, I will see if any match," Elijah said, finding the correct page.

Freya began reading the names and when she got to Materel and Asael, Elijah said to stop. "That's two of them we know have been active in the cult."

"And they mated with humans," Freya said. "That means they may have descendants on Earth. They really don't want to destroy everything, they want released."

"And if we could find another way," Klaus said. "Then, they wouldn't need this half-angel child to do it."

"It's a stretch, even for us," Kol noted. "But what's the next step?"

"I'll fly to New Orleans, take Freya with me. We'll try to hunt down the escaped angels, make them a deal. I know we do not like to speak of it, but Klaus, Ansel would most likely turn vampire upon his human death. He is effectively immortal. This child of Hayleys may be the same. If the angels could wait the span of a human life, we have no quarrel with them. It is only their angel side that is a danger to some and a boon to the others, as only angels can smite. The child could smite them back to heaven or whatever, if that is what they wish. They have no need to take the children," Elijah proposed. "Not if we cooperate."

"But how can we stop them, if they disagree?" Klaus wondered.

"With this," Freya said, holding up a silver chain. "I've been working on a magical blocker for Finn. It will effectively stop him from being able to use magic when wearing it. If I made ones for the babies, they would be rendered unable to perform spells. We could bound it to something or someone and make it unremovable until we wish it removed."

Elijah cringed, "Finn isn't going to like having to wear jewelry. But a small silver chain shouldn't be too obtrusive."

Kol grinned, "Tell that to him. Vanessa had a hell of a time getting him to wear those new loafers she bought him. He's a stubborn fellow."

"As is your young Silas," Elijah retorted.
Kol put his hands up, "Keelin already spoke to me. I'll get on him when he gets home. You should have told me earlier, Elijah."

Elijah nodded, "I did not wish to interfere."

"That's a first," Klaus muttered. "Go on, Elijah. Make your preparations. The difference between Finn and Ansel is that Finn is not part angel. If Ansel's magical side could be controlled by us, that is helpful. All I ever wanted was us to be together and to keep my son safe. I did not want Marcellus down there alone. I just never imagined even these celestials could break free from the Serraturra. Now, we have much more at stake."

Freya agreed, "It is disturbing, but if witchcraft comes from them. We should not be surprised they can manipulate it. Before I go, I'm going to call Ric and see if I can speak to Bonnie. She's been awfully quiet about being the anchor to the Other Side. Too quiet."

"Bonnie's a strong girl," Kol stated. "But I'm sure it is taking a toll on her. Every supernatural who dies, passing through her."

"Yes," Freya intoned. "I've spoken to her about it, but she said she has a handle on it. I'm just wondering if she experienced anything unique the last few days..."

"Good thinking," Klaus said. "Are we done here? And please everyone, do not speak a word of this to Camille. I-I haven't said anything as yet."

Freya pursed her lips, "Niklaus, she is part angel and this has to do with Ansel. How do you know she hasn't spoken to Sean about it?"
Klaus paled, "I supposed I did not consider that. I shall try to broach the subject now."

"Do not try," Elijah said. "Do so. Like Bonnie, she can handle it."

"It's not that," Klaus confessed. "I don't know if I can. The thought of me having another child out there that I cannot protect. Call me immediately when you two find out something."

Klaus stepped to the doorway and leaned his hand against it a moment.

Freya said, "Brother, take a breath. We shall find a way. We always do."

"Yes," Klaus said finally, getting his bearings. "That is true." Klaus phone buzzed. He picked it up saying, "It's Ric. That's good timing."

Mystic Falls High School

Dean's Office

Afternoon

Sixth Hour

"You two are damn lucky I am filling in today for Principal Mohinder," Ric shouted. He lowered his voice as he peered down at Caroline and Tyler. "What if someone else had found you?"

Ric had caught Tyler and Caroline in the back of the stage, kissing and drinking blood off of a janitor.

Caroline sobbed, "Please, Ric. It was my fault. I got really hungry and compelled the guy. Don't get Tyler in trouble."

"You are both in trouble. I got a hold of the Sheriff," Ric informed the newly turned blonde vampire. "And I left Klaus a message."

Tyler shifted in his seat. His backside had healed but he knew he'd really be in for another spanking, if Klaus found out.

"What if we promised not to ever do it again?" Tyler pleaded.

"Oh, I'm going to make sure of that," Ric warned. His cell phone buzzed and he answered it. It was Klaus.

Ric explained what happened and held out the phone to Tyler.

"Son, you want to explain yourself?" Klaus growled. "Didn't I just bust your behind with the paddle last night? And the night before?"

Tyler colored as he realized Caroline could hear the conversation.

"Yes, but Dad-," Tyler attempted. "We made a mistake."

"Yes, you did," Klaus roared. "You can forget about us turning on the full moon. You are grounded. Put Ric back on the phone."

"But Dad, come on. You promised," Tyler gulped.

"And you promised to behave. Put Ric back on the phone," Klaus said firmly.
Tyler handed Ric the phone as his eyes filled with tears.

Caroline reached over and grabbed his hand. "Ty, chill."

Ric listened a minute.

"Yes, I think I have a few things here that will do," Ric said. "The Sheriff is on her way to deal with Miss Forbes, but I'll deal with Tyler. It's no problem. Bonnie?...No, she seems fine. She...What? Okay, I'll see if I can pull her from class. Tell Freya she'll be here. There's more? Hang on..."

Ric headed into the hallway and shut the door so the vampire teens couldn't hear. Tyler strained but the sounds were muffled.

"Wonder what that is about?" Tyler said curiously.

Caroline let go off Tyler's hand and whispered, "My mom is coming? I'm dead."

Ric hung up and used the landline on his desk to buzz the office.

"Please have Bonnie Bennett come to my office," Ric said to the secretary. "Freya Malraux-Mikaelson is coming to see her. They can use the conference room. Thank you. Oh, and Sheriff Forbes is also coming. You can send her to my office. Thanks."

"Caroline, go on and face the corner. Put your hands on your head. I'm going to let your mom give you a paddling. But Tyler, I am dealing with you," Ric said, taking out a solid oak school paddle from the closet.

"Ric, um, isn't that illegal? Why do you even have it?" Tyler whined.

"For days like this," Ric said. "And drinking blood from humans at school isn't allowed either. Luckily, I have my vervain/wolfsbane mixture so you will actually feel this. Drop your pants and underwear and let's get this over with."
Tyler exchanged a pitiful look with Caroline as she got up and went to the corner.

Tyler attested, "I will feel it...Can we just do a detention or something?"

"Oh, yes, I can add on a week of lunch detentions," Ric snarked. "Good thinking. "You can help me catalogue a new storage closet I just found. Lots of interesting stuff in there."

"Like that paddle," Tyler continued. "It looks like's from the Civil War."

Ric chuckled, "There are names on it. I think this one even says 'Lockwood.' Check it out." Ric handed Tyler the heavy paddle and he saw it said "Mason Lockwood" on it.

"Great. I come from a long ling of fuck-ups," Tyler blurted. "Whoops. Sorry, Ric."

Ric shrugged, "That's another good whack. You are going to learn to behave, Tyler. Now, lean over so I can spray this over your behind. Come on, briefs down."

Tyler unbuckled his belt and slid his jeans down to his ankles. He looked back to see Caroline shuffling in the corner. With her hands on her head, her short skirt was riding up. He really didn't want to take his pants down, but Ric was getting impatient.

Tyler finally shucked down his briefs and leaned over the desk on his elbows.

"Whoa, looks like your butt is a little pink," Ric commented. "Tyler, you are a senior. You shouldn't be acting up like this."

"Just spank me already and spare the lecture," Tyler fired back.

Ric exhaled, "Fine. You asked for it. Grab the other edge of the desk and spread your legs. No clenching."

Ric sprayed the vervain/wolfsbane mixture on Tyler's bare rump and let it dry a moment. He patted Tyler's backside with the blade the paddle and swung.

Pop!

"Oaaaaf," Tyler heaved as his behind erupted in fire.

Pop!

"Damnnnn," Tyler winced. Ric was really lighting him up.

"That's an extra pop," Ric warned. "You better start watching that mouth and your temper."

Pop!

"Ricccc," Tyler moaned. "It h-hurts!"

Pop!

"I know, buddy," Ric said, pausing. "But you earned it. Ray, the janitor, is old and diabetic. I have him resting in the nurse's office. Did you two consider that?"

Pop!

"No! We're s-sorry," Tyler said, breaking down in tears.

Pop!

"Getting pretty red back here," Ric noted. He switched sides and gave Tyler six more swats to even out the color. "Those extra two were for the swears."

Tyler sniffled and started to get up. Ric pushed him back down.

"I didn't say we were done," Ric ordered. He put down the paddle and started to spank Tyler's behind with his bare hand. "This is for the attitude. You are here to learn, not do whatever the heck you want!"

Smack. Smack! Smack. Smack!

Ric was swatting all over and Tyler was lifting his feet and trying to stay in place, but the spanking stung fiercely over the paddle swats.
"Awwwww," Tyler protested. "S-Stoppp."

"Not until I hear some contrition from you," Ric retorted. He lowered the spanks to swat the tops of Tyler's thighs.

There was a knock and Ric hollered, "Come in."

Sheriff Forbes was in full uniform. She looked at Tyler, sobbing over the desk and then at her daughter, shuffling in the corner.

"Good job, Ric," Sheriff Liz Forbes quipped. "You ought to join the force. We need some more muscle in this town."

"Nah, I've got my hands full with these guys and at home," Ric remarked.

Liz added, "Yeah, I saw Freya take Bonnie in the conference room. Everything okay?"
"Not really," Ric said, eyeing the teens. "I'll explain after we get these two spanked and back to class."

"Good plan," Liz said. "Can I use that spray and your paddle? Caroline has been asking for this all week. She's grounded from her phone, but I caught her speaking to Tyler last night. Didn't I honey?"

Caroline mumbled, "Yes, ma'am."
Tyler was wiping his eyes, mortified that the Sheriff was seeing him this way. He didn't know Caroline was grounded, but it explained why she got off the phone so quickly last night.

"Come here," Liz ordered, moving the guest chair away from Tyler and Ric. She had her daughter stand in front of her and pulled down her panties and flipped her over her lap. Without a pause, the Sheriff sprayed the mixture over Caroline's pale behind after flipping up her skirt.

"I told you this skirt was too short," Liz chided. "But you never want to listen to me. Bet you will regret that when your friends see your red thighs. Move your bum over."

"Mommy, it burned," Caroline whimpered.

"Oh, it's going to burn more in a minute," Liz warned firmly. "This is how we used to get paddled when I went to school here and our cheer coach dealt with us."
Caroline rolled her eyes, "That was like a hundred years ago, Mom. This is crazy. Can't you wait until we get home?"
"Oh, you are going to get spanked again when we get home," Liz said firmly.

Ric smacked Tyler's behind a few more times.

"Wait, Liz. I think I have something better for that position," Ric offered. He went into the closet and produced a smaller wooden paddle. It was round and also looked aged.

"That thing looks familiar," Liz grimaced. "Ric, where did you get this?"

"Storage," Ric said. "Way down in the basement."

"Huh," Liz said, hefting it. "Yeah, this will do nicely."

Liz made sure that she locked Caroline's legs with her right leg and started paddling her bottom sounds.

Unlike Tyler, Caroline squealed and shrieked from the start.

"M-Mommy, no!" Caroline howled.

Whap! Whap! Whap! Whap!

Whap! Whap! Whap! Whap!

Ric finished with Tyler and had him pull up his pants. He grabbed a wad of tissues from the box and gave them to Tyler.
"Blow your nose, buddy," Ric said, now with more sympathy.

Tyler wiped his face and said slowly, "I am sorry, Ric. I didn't think about the janitor. Want me to give him some blood?"

"Nah, it's okay. I always keep some on hand," Ric stated. "You know for these situations. Look, Tyler, I know your dad is pretty disappointed. But he loves you and you two will work it out."

Tyler tried not to watch Sheriff Forbes paddle Caroline, but it was pretty distracting.

"I know," Tyler said. "It's just I got in trouble last night...and the night before. We had a special full moon hunting thing planned and now I'm grounded."

Ric pulled Tyler into a hug. "There will be other trips. Okay? Now, ask Mrs. Miller to write you a pass back to class. I need to check on Bonnie."

"Why is Aunt Freya here?" Tyler tried.

"I'm not sure," Ric said. "And you need to get to class. Also, I mean it about the detentions. You have a week with me. Just like old times."

"Fine," Tyler said, sheepishly. He rubbed the seat of his jeans.

"How am I going to sit in class?" Tyler wondered.

"Carefully. Very carefully," Ric warned. "Try getting ten licks without any supernatural healing! That's a lot worse, I assure you."
"There's a story there," Tyler noted.

"From a century ago, oh, I almost forgot," Ric grinned. "Why don't you sign the paddle?"

Ric produced a pen and Tyler carefully leaned over and signed "Tyler Lockwood."

Ric left the Sheriff and Caroline alone and headed to the conference room. He knocked and opened the door after hearing Freya say come in.

Freya looked behind him and saw Tyler with the secretary.

"Tell me he's not in trouble today," Freya said heavily.

"Oh, he is," Ric shared. "Klaus knows. But is everything okay here?"

Bonnie looked down at her hands.

"I think Bonnie has been hiding how hard being the anchor is," Freya announced.

"It's not that bad usually," Bonnie said slowly. "But a day ago, I did feel a weird sensation. I think I even lost consciousness for a time...Then, I woke up and felt fine."

Ric sat down at the conference table. "Bon, why didn't you tell us about this?"

Bonnie shrugged, "Grams had told me that it would be hard. And honestly, once I got used to the feeling of folks passing, it wasn't painful. I do see them and get to talk to them if I can. But yesterday, there was no one there...I can't explain it."

"Bonnie, can you wait in the office, please?" Freya asked. "There is something I need to run by Ric?"

Bonnie nodded and headed out to the office. Tyler was heading back with his pass and the two chatted a moment.

Ric shut the door. "This is about the cult, isn't it?"
"Yeah," Freya said, explaining what had happened. "I think I need to bring Bonnie with me. To New Orleans."

"Is it dangerous?" Ric asked, thinking of how he was going to explain this to Jenna.

"I don't know, Ric," Freya said honestly. "With Bonnie being the anchor, she plays a part in all this now. She sacrificed a lot and saved the Other Side. I think Vincent, the regent of the nine covens of New Orleans can help shed some light on the connection. He can speak to the Ancestors."

"Dorian, my old coworker and friend, is working at Crescent Academy," Ric said. "I feel like if something was wrong, he would have shared it."

Freya made a face. "Um, Elijah and Kol compelled the faculty and students over the summer to stay on campus and only speak to us. It was a safety measure to avoid leaks. I'll speak to Dorian when I get down there."
"I should have been digging for more information," Ric said. "It's just with work and the kids I haven't had a minute. Hell, I barely have time for a drink."
Freya grinned, "That's good, Ric. You look good. So, about Bonnie? Do we need to ask her father?"

"Rudy? He's on the road," Ric said dryly. "He promised to call weekly, but he's even too busy for that. I'm okay with her going if you promise to try to figure out a way to get her out of this anchor thing. She's too young to have all this going on. She's just a kid."

Freya stood. "Thank you, Ric. I'll take good care of her. I know my girls are excited about this decade dance. They keep asking Keelin for clothing advice. I will try to have Bonnie back in time for it. That is, if she even agrees to go."

"Yes, that would be great. But you know, if it involves helping others, Bonnie is on board," Ric sighed. "I didn't tell her how the Mikaelson foundation gave her a full-ride scholarship. I didn't want her to start slacking, but maybe you can share that? I'm going to get her teachers to get some work together."

"Good," Freya said. "I'll talk to Bonnie then."

Tyler stopped in the bathroom to take a leak. He hoped the Sheriff didn't wallop Care as hard as Ric spanked him, but he was doubtful. He checked his pass and saw that Mrs. Miller had given him an extra five minutes to get himself together in the bathroom. Had she had him getting paddled? Jesus, only Ric would do something like this. Again. He pulled out his cell, while he still had it, and texted Jeremy to meet him. Tyler knew his art class was in this wing of the school. A moment later, Jeremy came in.

"Hey, what happened? I heard you got busted," Jeremy said with concern.

Tyler's voice caught, "Yeah, Ric called Dad. Care and I both got...you know, by Ric. I am never gonna sit again!"

Jeremy bit his lip. "Damn, that sucks. What did you want? I'm in the middle of a project."
Tyler started, "I'm real sorry about yesterday. I shouldn't have...done what I did."
Jeremy smirked, "Well, Kai got you good and I shouldn't have spit in your face. But yeah, can we not ever have a repeat?"
Tyler nodded and let the tears trail down his face. Jeremy was alarmed, Tyler rarely cried. He reached out and hugged him, letting Tyler sob on his shoulder a minute. Embarrassed, Tyler pulled away and rubbed at his face.

"I swear from now on, I'm walking the line," Tyler vowed. "No fucking...I mean, no screwing around or anything. Are we really cool?"

"Yeah," Jeremy said with meaning. "We are good. Now, let's go to class. You get a tardy and Dad's going to sign you up for that military school."
"That would be better than this place with Ric at the helm," Tyler grumbled. "Did you know he found a paddle that my Uncle Mason had signed? It was stashed in some storage closet in the basement. Him and his fu-freaking relics, huh?"

"Really?" Jeremy said, walking out of the bathroom. "That's wild. We should search this place and make sure none of that crap is laying around. But then again, Connor would probably make him worse stuff in his wood shop."

"Weren't we going to take his saws?" Tyler joked. "Or burn down the forests?"
"Okay, now you are just dreaming," Jeremy quipped. "You okay, man?"
"I am," Tyler said. "But Care is still in there. Sheriff Forbes came in to do the paddling. Ric is really something."

"Yeah," Jeremy agreed. "See you after school."

Office

Liz Forbes held Caroline between her knees and held her hands.

"You were doing so good," Liz said. "What happened?"

"I don't know," Caroline mused. "I just got so hungry."

"Caroline," Liz started. "Have you been following the diet the Mikaelsons gave you? One human blood bag, a few animal bags a day?"

Caroline's pale face flushed, "Mommy, you have no idea what the hunger is like! I maybe have two human a day..."

Liz turned Caroline to the side and picked up the round wooden paddle as day. Pop! Pop! Pop!

"OWWWWWWW," Caroline screeched as she fought to free her hands from Liz's tight grip with her left hand.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

"Tell me the truth," Liz ordered in her policewoman voice.

"I compelled someone to get me extras, okay?" Caroline admitted. "I will stop it..."

Pop! Pop! Pop!

"Yes, you will," Liz ordered. She lectured Caroline a bit more and then pulled up her panties after putting down the paddle.

Caroline sobbed that she would get back into her blood schedule. Liz stood and opened her arms to her daughter.

"Now, let's let Ric get back to work. Thank him for calling me instead of suspending you," Liz directed. Caroline sniffled out her thanks.

"Ric, I'm going to take her home," Liz said.

"No, Mom, I have a decoration session after school for the dance," Caroline protested. Liz snapped, "Do you want another swat? You are in no condition to stay here. We're going home. Elena or one of the others can run it. Plus, the dance isn't for a while, you have time. Do you need to go to your locker?"

"No, ma'am," Caroline replied, rubbing her backside. Liz was strict, but knew when her girl needed a break. She was exhausted and needed to rest.

"I'll talk to Elena," Ric said. "She was going to stay anyway. Go home and listen to your mother, Caroline. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Put those paddles away," Liz joked. "I don't want to have to arrest you for breaking any laws. I'm sure Klaus gave you permission to paddle Tyler's backside."
"Yup, I think Tyler is quite the handful these days," Ric said, finishing up some paperwork.

"I won't say anything to Carol but between us, he always was," Liz reported. "Carol's always on edge when getting ready for Founder's Day. I think it's when Richard's death really hits her."

"I imagine so," Ric said sadly. "You guys go home. And Caroline, no more feeding on the staff, okay?"
Caroline smiled and hugged Ric goodbye. "Got it. Thanks, Ric."
