Chloe banged on her daughter's bedroom door. As soon as Michael left, Trixie ran to her bedroom. At first Chloe left her alone. She decided to let her calm down for a couple of hours. Now though, she decided that they needed to talk things through. She needed to make Trixie understand why she did what she did.
"Trixie, come out please," Chloe said. When there was no response, she tried the door handle, but found it was locked. "Trixie, you know you're not supposed to lock the door! Open it, now!"
Again, there was no response.
"Trixie, if you don't unlock the door right now, I will take it off its hinges!" Chloe threatened. She was not going to be locked out of her daughter's room. She didn't care how upset Trixie was. She was still her mother.
When there was still no response, Chloe stormed towards the kitchen to find something to pry the door open. She cursed Lucifer the entire time. She really didn't even understand how Lucifer gained her daughter's devotion. He barely wanted anything to do with Trixie most of the time, and yet, she'd locked herself in her bedroom out of loyalty to him.
Chloe was rummaging through a drawer in her kitchen when she heard a cold voice behind her.
"Are you incapable of learning, Chloe Decker?"
Chloe yelped in surprise before turning to see God behind her. Lucifer was standing behind him.
God took a step forward. "Even small children are capable of learning not to make the same mistakes twice, at least for a while, but apparently you are incapable of such a thing. Just how many of my children do you intend to try to murder?"
Chloe immediately backed away. "Michael came after me. He tried to hurt my daughter." Obviously she was lying, but it was the only thing she could think to do. She had to say something if she expected to survive a second encounter with an enraged God.
"Do not lie to me!" God snarled.
"I'm not. He was angry. He wanted to get revenge and went after Trixie," Chloe said. It was a lie, but not completely. Michael did approach Trixie.
"You are lying," Lucifer said. It was amazing, but he could suddenly tell the difference between her truths and lies. When she told that story about Michael, she sounded exactly the same as when she told him that she accepted him and wanted to be with him. "You tried to murder my brother?"
God placed a hand on his son's arm when he tried to step towards the woman. "Stay behind me please."
Reluctantly, Lucifer complied. He'd given his word after all.
"Assuming there was even a small part of me that was willing to believe you over my son, Chloe Decker, do you honestly believe I couldn't determine whether or not you were telling the truth? All it would take is a slight probe of your mind to get the truth," God told her.
Chloe gulped. She supposed it was stupid of her to think she could lie to God. Of course, he had ways of detecting truthfulness. "H… He approached my daughter. For all I knew, he would've hurt her."
"My son told you he was forbidden from harming humans. You tried to kill Michael because you were afraid of what he would tell the child, and you placed your own child at risk in the process," God said.
"Are you not the one who told me about the unpredictability of firearms, Detective? You could've killed your own child," Lucifer said. Attacking him was one thing, even going after Michael was, as they could at least defend themselves. The urchin was innocent. She had no way to protect herself. She could've been killed.
Chloe glared at him. She knew she'd messed up when she took that shot, but she wasn't going to be lectured on bad parenting from the Devil, especially considering he acted like a child himself more often than not. "What do you care anyway? You don't give a damn about Trixie."
"If that were true, I wouldn't be here. I am here to make things easier on her. Actually, I came partially in hopes of finding out that Michael did do something to force your hand. If that had been the case, I was willing to fight to stop this from happening," Lucifer said. While a part of him still wanted to fight to allow the child to stay with the detective, it became clear that she might not be safe where she was. He couldn't live with it if something happened to the child.
"What are you talking about?" Chloe asked with trepidation in her voice.
"Lucifer?" A small voice called out.
They all turned to see Trixie in the doorway.
"Trixie, go back into your room," Chloe said.
Trixie ignored her mother and made a beeline for her friend. She immediately hugged him around the middle.
"Trixie, no! Get away from him!" Chloe demanded before stepping towards them.
God stood directly in her path and spoke in a cold, low tone. "You will not take another step towards my son!" He then insured the woman could not move from where she was.
Normally, Lucifer would stand there awkwardly until the child released him, but this time, he placed an awkward hand on her back and patted it gently.
"I'm so sorry, Lucifer," Trixie cried into his arms.
"What for, child? You have nothing to be sorry for," Lucifer said.
Trixie pulled away after a minute. "My mom hurt you. Your brother said she wanted to kill you."
"He shouldn't have told you that," Lucifer said with an edge to his voice. Michael had no business bringing the child into it. She didn't need to know any of that. "None of that is your doing, Spawn. You have no need to apologize."
"Are you okay?" Trixie asked.
"My injuries have healed," Lucifer told her. It was the only truth he was willing to give her. He was far from alright in any other way, but she didn't need to know that.
Chloe struggled to move and get her daughter away from Lucifer, but she found that her feet would not budge from where she was standing. "Trixie, come here. You need to get away from Lucifer."
"No!" Trixie yelled before turning and glaring at her mother. "Stop being mean to Lucifer! He's my friend! He's supposed to be your friend too. He saved you when you were sick. How can you try to hurt him?"
"Baby, you don't understand," Chloe said.
"On the contrary. I believe the child is quite wise," God said as he stepped towards his son and the young girl.
Lucifer turned the child towards his father. "Child, this is my father."
God immediately bent down to the child's level and gave her an inviting smile.
"You're God?" Trixie asked.
If God was surprised that the child figured out who he was, he didn't show it. "That's correct. It's wonderful to meet you, Trixie."
Lucifer, however, was shocked by the child's question. He had no idea that she believed him about being the Devil. He thought she believed him to be crazy, like everyone else. It seemed she did believe him, and she didn't hate him. "You knew the truth about me?"
"Of course. You don't lie," Trixie said before turning back to God and glaring a little. "You hurt Lucifer too. You made him go to Hell."
If anything, God's smile grew, because it was obvious to him that this child had great loyalty to his son. It made him even more determined to protect her from her current environment. "Yes, unfortunately, you're right. I punished my son too harshly out of anger. I made a mistake. Sometimes, parents make mistakes too. Sometimes even I do."
Lucifer once again found himself surprised by his father. It was shocking enough for him to admit to Lucifer that he was capable of making a mistake, but admitting it to a human seemed almost unfathomable.
"You're sorry then? You won't hurt him again?" Trixie asked. That was at least different then with her mom. Her mom didn't even admit she did anything wrong. She kept trying to say it was Lucifer's fault.
"I will never intentionally harm my son," God promised. He couldn't promise that nothing he did would ever hurt Lucifer. No one could promise that, but he could promise to never purposely hurt him, and he certainly would never send him back to Hell.
"Okay. Are you going to hurt my mom?" Trixie asked. If God cared about Lucifer again, it had to mean that he was mad at her mom for hurting Lucifer. Trixie was mad too, but she still loved her mother. She didn't want God to hurt her."
"I will not do your mother any lasting harm, and I will not do anything tonight, but I hope you can understand that I will have to punish her at some point. She hurt my child. I think you would expect your parents to do the same if someone tried to hurt you," God said. He wouldn't lie to the child. He abhorred lying as much as his son did.
Chloe wasn't sure whether or not to feel relief from God's promise to her daughter. It sounded like she would survive whatever his plan was for her, but that did not by any means mean that she would get off easy. God had already told her that her punishment would be worse than Kinley's. She still didn't see why she should be punished at all. She was only trying to protect the world from the Devil. She would've thought God himself would understand that.
Trixie thought about what God said. She guessed she did understand. Her mom and dad always said there were consequences for doing bad things. That was why people who broke the law went to jail. She was pretty sure that what her mom did was against the law. "I guess so. It was wrong for her to hurt Lucifer."
"I'm glad to hear that. You are a very wise child, which is why I think you can understand what I need to tell you," God said. He by no means believed that she'd be happy about it, but he did think she was smart enough to understand what was going to happen.
"Dad, let me do it, please," Lucifer said as he knelt down.
God nodded for him to go ahead.
Trixie looked at Lucifer with a bit of fear in her eyes. "Lucifer, what's going on."
"Child, your mother fired her towards you, yes?" Lucifer asked.
Trixie nodded. That had been really scary. She'd never seen her mother fire her gun before, and it had happened so close to her.
"It was an accident! Baby, you know I'd never hurt you," Chloe said.
"She wanted to hurt your brother because he was talking to me," Trixie told Lucifer.
"And Michael wasn't trying to hurt you, was he?" Lucifer asked. He wanted to make a hundred percent sure. The detective had all but admitted she lied about that, but he still wanted Trixie's perspective.
"No. He was actually sort of nice to me. It was Mom he was mad at. He pulled me out of the way when she shot him. I was really scared. I thought I might get hurt," Trixie said.
"You might have been if Michael hadn't acted," Lucifer said. He grudgingly conceded that he might owe Michael a thank you for that. Although, at the same time, it might not have happened if his twin had minded his own business. "That's why my father brought us here. He doesn't believe you're safe here, and I think he could be right."
"D… Do es that mean I have to leave?" Trixie asked with fear in her voice. That's what it sounded like, and even though she was mad at her mom, this was her home. She didn't want to just leave.
"What?! No! You're not taking my daughter!" Chloe shrieked.
"Detective, shut up! Don't make this any harder on her," Lucifer told her before turning back to the child. "I'm sorry, Trixie. Staying with your mother just isn't a good idea right now. She can't do what's best for you right now."
"What the hell would you know what's best for a child, Lucifer. You know nothing about children," Chloe sneered.
"I know enough not to fire a gun off around one," he said in as calm a voice as he could. He was starting to really wonder if he ever knew this woman. Actually, it was clear that he didn't, given that she tried to kill him. Yet, even now, a part of him still loved her. He couldn't help it. A part of him also hated taking her child away, but a larger part of him feared what would happen to the child if she stayed.
Trixie turned and glared at her mother while tears fell from her eyes. "Stop it! This wouldn't be happening if you'd left Lucifer alone! He was supposed to be your friend! You're not supposed to hurt your friends! I hate you," she cried before running from the room.
"May I go with her, Dad? I'll make sure she gets her things together," Lucifer said as he stood up. He hated having to ask permission, but he'd promised not to leave his father's side unless he said it was alright.
God nodded before rising to his feet. He watched his son leave before turning to the Decker woman.
"You can't just take my daughter away and lock me in here! I have rights," Chloe said. She realized telling God what he could and couldn't do probably wasn't the best idea, but what did she have left to lose at this point. He was trying to take her child away.
God only laughed at her. "Let me explain something to you right now. You have no rights. You had rights that I allowed you to have, and you lost them when you tried to murder my son. No, when you tried to murder two of my sons. You've also lost those rights for the rest of your species. I was never going to leave a child under your influence, but after putting her in danger, I have no choice but to remove her."
"I…I made a mistake. You said yourself that everyone makes mistakes. Are only you allowed to learn from them?" Chloe asked.
God chuckled. "Mistake? That's what you call attempted murder? You are correct that I made a mistake, one that cost me, but cost my son even more. I will spend the rest of eternity trying to make up for that. But what I did, I did out of a moment of anger, and by the time that anger went away, I didn't know how to fix it. You planned your 'mistake'. It was premeditated and calculated, and you have yet to show an ounce of remorse."
"I'm sorry," Chloe immediately said. She wasn't, but she would say whatever she needed to if it helped her get out of this and allowed her to keep her daughter.
"Let me rephrase. Truthful remorse. You cannot lie to me, Chloe. I know your only regret is that I stopped you. You proved that by attempting to kill yet another one of my children tonight," God said.
"Please don't take my baby. Punish me some other way," Chloe begged.
God raised an eyebrow at her. "Is that what you think? You think this is your punishment? Oh, no, my dear. That is yet to come. I am taking that child to protect her and preserve the goodness inside of her that I know you will destroy. The fact that it hurts you is merely an added bonus. When I'm done with you, you will have no doubt that you have been punished. Until then, you will continue to be locked in this house, as I still have no suitable alternative for you," he said. He'd considered putting her into a cell in Heaven after he found out she shot Michael, but he didn't want her that close to his children, especially Lucifer. No, he would have to leave her here. He would ensure all her physical needs were met until he could deal with her. She'd find she wouldn't run out of food. However, she was most definitely a prisoner.
Lucifer and Trixie came out a couple of minutes later. Trixie was clinging to Lucifer's hand, who for once, didn't even try to get her to let go. Trixie had her backpack strapped to her back and was clutching Miss Alien with her free hand. Lucifer was also carrying a duffle bag.
"Are you all ready, Child?" God asked.
Trixie nodded somberly. "Am I going to my dad's?"
God used his omniscience to find Daniel Espinoza. The man was currently very drunk, and using his power to look back in time, God found that it was not even close to the first time even this week. He could not leave the child with him now. He was not ruling out the possibility of him taking her in the future yet, but it wouldn't be tonight. "Not tonight, little one. I intend to speak to your father at a later date, but tonight, you'll need to come with us."
Trixie nodded once more. She was more than a little upset, but at least she could be with Lucifer tonight, so she wouldn't be completely alone.
"Please, can I say goodbye," Chloe asked. She knew she couldn't stop this from happening. She couldn't even move her legs, but she wanted to at least hug her daughter one last time.
Trixie turned always from her mother and hugged Lucifer, making it clear she was not interested in talking to her mother.
"Trixie, please," Chloe begged.
"No! It's all your fault!" she cried.
"Child, this may be the last chance you have to say goodbye to your mother," Lucifer said.
"I don't care. I hate her. I wanna go now," Trixie said. She didn't really want to go, but if she had she wanted to do it now.
"You can fly her, son, but I want you right behind me, alright? God asked
Lucifer nodded and picked the child up. Within seconds, the three of them disappeared.
