A Prophecy

" 'Who can own the earth, the sky, the water?'
Woelfin asks, waving her arms
around the village. 'The Great Spirit
has given them to us all! The Indian
does not encompass the land with cords!
He shares its goodness! The Indian does not rob the
bee of all its honey! He does not
kill for sport! But the white man
does. And one day he will suffer for it.' "

I think it is true that no one owns the earth. How can someone just say it is their land just because they found it first? Is the earth just something to fight over about who has the most? I think the great earth is a wonderful part of ourselves that we should share together. Without it, nothing could live. If we (in this case) rob the bee of all it's honey, the bee will not survive because their treasure and food supply was taken. We take the honey, the bee dies out and we never have honey again. What good will it do? The big point is: People are greedy and it is the exact thing Woelfin is talking about. The prophecy says that we, the "white men" will one day suffer in return for our actions. Did we suffer? What did we do to the air and the water? We polluted it. What about the forests? We either burned them or cut them down. It's ok for us to take some parts of nature, that's how we live, but we overdo it. We overdo it for something called money, or maybe even just for fun. Animals help us so much, for example cows, chickens, horses, sheep, etc. Animals die, sometimes naturally but most of the time it's because of humans. Now we have a whole list of endangered species and most of the time poachers did the harm. A poacher is one kind of greedy people. Almost everything bad that happened leads to greed. There will always be greedy people in the world and I guess that's what made us suffer. Most Native Americans respected the land and wanted to share it and use it with us. But we didn't except their offer and that was a big mistake that we regret. Because we didn't except the offer, there was a disagreement and this disagreement gradually grew and led to war. War kills many people and we all don't want that. Many, many Native Americans died in wars. The white man suffers, but the Natives do too. Maybe they suffered even more than us. Maybe not. We both suffered but is it fair? Is it just the way of life?
