Today was the day they headed north. It was a 6 hour ride without traffic but both Kim and Adam wanted to get a jump start on the day. The entire group decided to travel at their own pace and get up when they wanted to instead of being on a schedule. That worked best for everyone and no one argued. The Ruzek were the first to leave because Kim wanted to stop at the rest stop after the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel. There was a walking path there and hoped it would be enjoyable for the kids to get out and walk for a bit. She also planned a quick stop at her favorite mall in Delaware before finishing the journey. Adam was fine with that since the kids would go stir crazy after a bit anyway.
They stopped for breakfast along the way and made good timing. The kids got to watch a movie during the first part of the trip. Kim was insistent that the kids look out the windows during the trip over the Bay Bridge tunnel. It was amazing to see the views and the cool boats in the water. Both kids oohing and awwing. It was a win in Kim's book. They arrived at the rest stop and got both kids out to potty and changed Lily's diaper before heading on the trail. There were lots of different trees for the kids to see and the trail ended at the waters edge. They of course took lots of photos to add to the scrapbook for each kid. As they neared the car all three kids were almost asleep which was perfect in their minds. They got the kids settled and back on the road.
Kim and Adam talked most of the way. Sharing funny stories and jokes but kept the volume down so the kids would sleep. They were already in Delaware by the time the kids woke up and ?Kim handed them each a snack to hold them over till they stopped for lunch which was about another hour away. They seemed content enough to look at the scenery and ask questions as Adam continued to drive. "You know I'm driving after we leave the mall right? Besides the hotel I know where I'm going and know how to drive out here. Road rage will be real." Kim decided to start that argument now since she knew it would happen. "You know what? Fine go ahead. I'm not fighting you on it this time." Adam winked at her. The kids were in the car. What game was he playing. The kids would be in the next bed. Kim just rolled her eyes and returned to watching the road.
As they arrived at the mall they decided to get lunch first before shopping. Both kids were hungry and Lily was fussing to probably getting hungry herself. They ordered shake shack from the app and waited outside for it to be ready. Neither felt like sitting inside when it was so beautiful outside. It was almost 70 which was rare for this time of year. After lunch they headed into the mall to shop for nothing special but since it was all tax free it was worth looking around. It was also a large space to walk around and stretch their legs some. Kim found a few cute things for each of the kids especially Lily who was growing like a weed. When the kids got bored they got back on the road to head towards Philly again.
They arrived at the hotel a little over an hour later. After checking in they heading back out to a museum that was made especially for kids called the 'Please touch me museum'. Kids are encouraged to touch things, see how they work, learn by doing. It was a great place for the kids to run around and be allowed to be loud and have fun. They each last around two hours before they got tired again. They headed back to the hotel fir a quick nap before heading out to dinner. Friends had been arriving throughout the day and they decided to call a local restaurant to cater a large meal for all of them. They knew it was short notice but they found a place that was happy to help them out.
Dinner went extremely well and everyone enjoyed the meal. "Kim. Can you give us ideas of stuff to do tomorrow before the game? I know you know the area well." Kate asked hoping for some insight. "Well the zoo here is America's first zoo, Reading Terminal Market is America's oldest indoor market, Constitution Hall, Liberty Bell, Liberty Tower Overlook, Love Park, the Rocky statue, Franklin Institute, Eastern State penitentiary, the Mutter Museum, I could go on." Kim laughed as everyone just stared at her. "What Philly has tons of stuff to do. It would take months before you get bored." Kim was laughing at them but was enjoying the night out.
The next morning the Ruzek clan got up fairly early to enjoy as much of Philly as they could. Time was limited so they had to move. They arrived at the very same cafe that Adam and Kim had met at just the year before. They were sat a table towards the back of the restaurant where they could have some privacy. The kids asked questions about their first meeting. It was easy to reminisce about that day. It seemed like only yesterday. They sat and ate breakfast, Adam ordering the same breakfast from that first day. Kim just laughed thinking back to when he thought she was a local and knew the area really well.
The kids really enjoyed their breakfast and enjoyed seeing their parents both so happy and lite. They laughed and joked around while eating breakfast. They also talked about their plans for the rest of the day. Kim decided that the Zoo was the best place to start as the historic sites bored her to death and figured the kids would hate them. Also Kim loved the zoo so it was a win win for her. They left the zoo after 2 hours and headed to the magic gardens which made of all broken mosaic pieces. It was inexpensive and supported local arts and just cool to look at. While it was cool to look at Kim was slightly nervous that the kids would pick up in all the penis and vagina on the tile and made out of stone. Adam noticed pretty quick and gave Kim a look. She shrugged before moving onto the next exhibit
The kids were wiped out after walking around the garden so they took the kids back to the hotel for a nap. All three kids were exhausted from the mornings activities so they napped without an issue and napped for several hours before waking again. Kim and Adam took that time to plans for the next few months. The holidays were coming and they had big plans for adopting the kids. The adoption process would be long and drawn out and require tons of paperwork but neither minded. Adam had twice as much paperwork as he was adopting both Emma and Jackson. Hopefully it could all be handled at the same time so it would be less home visits, less inspections and less court time. Only time would tell but they were excited to jump through the hoops.
"Baby thank you for doing all this paperwork! I know it's huge pain in the ass but I love you so much for it." Kim kissed him before sitting down at the table next to him. "Darling! I would do ten times this much if it meant we got to adopt Emma and I get to adopt my son. I want all of us to finally have the same last name. I want them to know that they are all the same in my heart and that I will never leave them. Emma's been through too much already and Jackson was insecure about his daddy when we met. I never want them to question my love and devotion to them." Adam confessed why he really wanted this more than anything. "Baby I love you! And I know the kids know how much you love them. And they know you won't leave them. But I agree it will be nice to have the same name." Kim kissed him hard before he got back to the paperwork.
When the kids woke they all headed to a local park for the kids to run around for a bit. After the park the headed to the ballpark with the group to see the Phillies in the World Series. Kim's favorite team and the only one who was a fan but it was still cool for everyone to be there. The game started at 8 but they arrived at 7 to make sure they got the full experience. When they arrived they couldn't believe all the fans already there tailgating, going inside the bars and going inside the ballpark. They headed towards the gate when they heard a gasp. "What's wrong Nadia?" Kim asked confused. "There is a Ferris wheel! Can we go on it?" She asked jumping up and down. "Sure go for it!" Kim laughed hard as she watched her friend run towards it. They all headed over so anyone who wanted to ride it could.
After everyone rode the Ferris wheel they headed inside the park through the entrance for the suite level. It took several trips on the elevator to get everyone to the suite but it was worth it. They were pointed in the direction of their suite and headed to find it all set up for them. The food was already prepared in buffet dishes. The group was in awe of the space. They made plates for the kids first before making plates for themselves. Kim got the drinks from the fridge for all of them. While they were eating their concierge for the night, Joe. His job was to bring more food and drinks as needed and to make sure they had a good time. Around 7:30 Kim headed down into the seated area with some others to watch the opening ceremony.
Adam took out his phone and took tons of photos of Kim as she screamed and yelled for the former players that were throwing at the first pitches. He loved seeing her this happy and relaxed. She was having a great time and it was money well spent. The kids had moved down to the seats to start watching the game. The entire group was having a great time cheering and chanting. The first home run hit by the Phillies had the crowd erupting so loud the kids s d some adults had to cover their ears. Kim was screaming and jumping up and down. Again Adam took videos and photos of her joy in the moment.
"Are they always this loud?" Voight asked as he settled into a seat. "Pretty much but it worse because of the World Series. First time since 2009 that they made it this far so yeah it's insane. And they were such the underdog that this it like a miracle. The energy keeps the players motivated." Kim answered without looking back. When Joe came back Kim asked for a special favor. "Joe is there anyway you could bring back two buckets of crab fries?" Kim asked with a huge smile. "Well it's not on the list but for you guys I will make it happen. Be right back!" Kim giggled with happiness.
Joe returned with her fries and Kim literally squealed with joy. Everyone stepped back and let her dig in first. The spice and cheese making her so happy. This was side most of them never saw of her. Eating fries, cheese dip, fried foods and screaming with joy. They all enjoyed seeing her this happy. They all dug into what appeared to be Kim's favorite fries. "Okay I see why you are so happy over these. They are amazing!" Mouse added as he dug in for more. "I know! I love them. I crave them sometimes." After the fries were gone they sat back at the seats watching more of the game. Around the 6th inning Kim had lost her voice but it didn't stop her from cheering her heart out. The kids eventually fell asleep with the help of head phones, they were exhausted from the entire day of fun.
As they settled into the last inning the score was already 7 to 0 in favor of the Phillies. They just needed to get three more outs. The entire crowd was on its feet, cheering. The energy was even more electric if that was possible. With each strike the crowd cheered louder. Adam has his arms wrapped around Kim during the last inning hoping to see them win this game for sure. The red rally towels were waving high all over the stadium and the crowd kept getting louder as the last out was recorded. The crowd went insane as the fireworks blasted above the park and the bell rang. The players running on to the field in celebration. Not one person attempted to leave the park yet. Enjoy the fanfare and waiting for the finally song of the night, High Hopes. Kim was purely glowing and watching the win and when High Hopes started the tears came as she sang along. The whole thing caught on video.
Once she settled again Adam pulled her into a hug, kissing her hard. "You were right. This was amazing. And I think the fans were louder than in Chicago last year. The Philly fans are absolutely ridiculous. It was definitely a once in a lifetime thing. I'm glad we got to do this together. I love you!" Adam kisses her again. "I told you there is nothing like being in Philly for a game. There's nothing like it." Kim smiled wide, beaming with pride. As Kim finished dancing a Joe reentered the suite to help them pack up the rest of the food to take back to the hotel with them. They were driving home the next day so the food would be helpful even if was cold. As they left for the night they took in all the loud fans still cheering and chanting. Some even doing the Eagles chants. It was great fun. They arrived at the hotel shortly after and everyone headed to bed.
As they got to their room they got the kids settled into the room with the help of Kevin. Carrying three passed out children was not easy. They got all three ready for bed and tucked them in tight. Once they closed the room to their room Kim and Adam headed into their room. The baby monitor was on just in case the kids woke up but they hoped the kids would sleep all night. When their door was closed Adam wrapped Kim in his arms. "Darling! I have never seen you so happy and carefree as you were tonight. It was beautiful! I can see why you're such a huge fan of not only the team but the area. We should come out more often" Adam kissed her softly. "It was such an amazing night. Thank you so much for it. I truly loved every minute of it. It was a night I will never forget." Kim smiled as she kissed him, throwing her arms around his neck.
"You looked so sexy tonight. You were glowing. I want to see you glow again. And see you full of pure happiness. So how about we play for a bit before going to sleep? After close to 12 hours they pulled into the driveway of their home. They had never been so happy to be home before. Dawson pulled in behind them to drop off the suitcases and the wedding attire that would be used on Saturday night again. Less than two days away. They got all the kids inside first before bringing in the luggage. Neither had the energy to unpack. They literally dropped on the bed and were sound asleep afterwards. They knew the next day would be kind of crazy with getting Champ from firehouse 51 and with all the laundry they needed to do but they were home and nothing else mattered at this point.
That night as they slept they both had dreams on Saturday night. The larger reception with the extended family and friend group. They couldn't wait. They felt lucky to have all these people to celebrate with. And they only hoped the real thing was more magical than the dreams.
