After a few days of marching, Nagisa and the Kunugigaoka Acorn Militia arrived in Kyoto and Nagisa brought Asano's body to his father. Karma and Sugino went with him as Sugino was now limping. They walked into Nijo Castle with Asano's body and they were greeted by the Minister of research and development and their friend, Manami Okuda-Akabane. Karma kissed his wife for 3 years as Nagisa walked past them to the Minister of Education, Gakuho Asano. He handed his son's body to him.
"I assume you were told about how he died?"
"Yes. It's a shame that raiders shot him. Far enough that he didn't see it coming." Gakuho said as he placed a hand on his son's body. Nagisa was the one who killed him and believed it was for the better, but he couldn't help but feel guilty as he watched Gakuho's face briefly change to one of mourning.
After watching the father take his son away, Nagisa walked to his new Quarters and saw all of Asano's things packed up. Sitting on the bed, Nagisa noticed how comfier it was than the barrack beds his militia had to sleep on. Now that he was in command, things were going to change.
The next day, Nagisa was given all the necessary paperwork to fill out as new commander of the Kunugigaoka Acorn Militia.
"Sucks to be you right now." Said Karma in his new second-in-Command uniform. Nagisa gave him a deadpanned look before smirking.
"Get in here and do your share smart ass." Karma grumbled and sat down as he began to get to work on the paperwork to help Nagisa out. Meanwhile, Sugino was approached by one of the FJR best snipers; Ryunosuke Chiba, another classmate from class 3-E. Sugino smiled as the two of them shared a bro hug.
"Hey man. How's Rinka?" Sugino asked.
"Pretty good. She's in her eighth month." Ryu said.
"Congrats man. You'll make a great dad."
"Heh. Thanks. So. When are you going to pop the question to Yukiko?" Ryu asked. Sugino blushed.
"Good day to you sir." he said before speeding away, leaving a snickering Ryu.
In the States, a woman was sitting at her desk. This was President Elizabeth Perdue of the Southern Republic, and she was currently looking through a letter. One warning her about the Bertrand Republic getting ready to move again. She looked up as one of her commanders came in with a salute.
"Miss President, General Vializ and those who escaped New York have arrived."
"Show him in, Commander Fredrickson." The commander left and returned with a man missing an arm and wearing an eyepatch.
"General Vializ, welcome to the Southern Republic. Sorry for the loss of the Northern Republic."
"Thank you. The Northern Republic fought hard, we all did. But our Adversary was just too strong. I somehow managed to slip by with all the men I had under my command to get here safely. Unfortunately, President Holder died at the hands of the Bertrand Republic's leader. In all honesty President Holder was a bit of a dick anyway."
President Perdue sighed and said, "Well, he was the Secretary of the Interior before the Collapse. He could never lead the North right."
"Yeah. Still, it was Better than the Bertrand Republic. He's made a prison camp near Philadelphia." General Vializ said as he sat down. President Perdue then sat across from her and they began discussing plans for defending the Southern Republic.
In the West Coast Republic, Yuma got his M4A1 Assault Rifle and sighed when Meg came out
"Yuma? What's wrong?" Yuma sighed again.
"The WCR Council has asked for all male civilians to enlist. It's conscription." Meg hugged him as Hadet came out, having clearly heard it.
"No Daddy! Don't enlist!" shouted Hadet with tears in her eyes. Yuma hugged her.
"I have no choice honey. As Long as we stay here we have to obey their laws." Hadet hugged her daddy more and didn't let go until it was time for him to go. Meg pulled her back and held her close as Yuma was loaded onto a transport and taken away. Hadet ran into the encampment and to her room in tears as Toka walked up to meg.
"Yuma too huh?" she guessed. Meg nodded with a sigh.
"She took it pretty hard."
"I figured. I wish Yuma didn't go either, he's been doting her since she could walk. Justice was conscripted too. I think a war is coming." Toka said to her friend. Meg nodded her head with a tired expression.
Later that night, she walked into Hadet's room and sat next to her in her bed. Rubbing her side, Meg said, "Honey, I know that you wanted daddy to stay, so did I. but the council just needs to make sure it has enough soldiers to hold off the enemy that they will be facing. We are in their country."
"But why daddy?! Why not others?!" shouted Hadet as she sat up and hugged her mommy. Meg hugged and comforted her daughter as best as she could.
Back in the Southern Republic, President Elizabeth was reading a newspaper when a sudden report came in. She quickly read through it and was shocked to see that soldiers from her army opened fire on the Bertrand Republic Forces.
"What?! I didn't order an attack! They were under strict orders not to fire!"
"It's a ploy!" General Vializ quickly warned her. "An excuse for the Bertrand Forces to attack. They did the same thing for the Northern Republic! Tell your men to get ready for an attack!"
But it was too late. At the border between the Bertrand Republic and the Southern Republic, the Southern Soldiers received the warning too late. A loudspeaker began booming with Bertrand's voice.
"Soldiers of the Southern Republic. You have opened fire at my men. For this act of aggression, I hereby declare WAR on your Republic!" Mortars began exploding along the borders, killing random soldiers as they tried to run for cover. Those who dodged the mortars were quickly mowed down by soldiers of the Bertrand Republic wielding large rifles.
One howitzer HE round landed smack dab in the middle of an Ammo Depot and the rounds struck nearby Southern Republic Soldiers. Soon several Sherman Tanks rolled into view that bore the flag of the Bertrand Republic and opened fire at the Southern Republic Soldiers alongside with M1 Abraham tanks. The Southern Republic Soldiers were too shaken up and forced to retreat. The Bertand Republic's Southern War had begun.
In the badlands, there were six big biker Gangs that ran each state. One such gang was called the The Barking Tigers, with their leader calling himself the Alpha. The Alpha had his biker gang protect the people of North Dakota. He was on a Patrol in the capital when a messenger rode next to him and handed him a letter from President Betrand. Pulling off to the side, the Alpha began to read the message. It said that if the Alpha wished the people of North Dakota to remain safe from the north, then the Bertrand Republic was the answer and wished that they join forces. The ALpha thought about it, the Bertrand Republic Recently took down the Great Lakes Dominion and the Northern Republic before them.
"If he means his word and wants to make sure my people are safe, I will need to talk to my men and the council." The Alpha said before heading back on patrol. Later, THe Alpha had the other leaders of the Council there. There was the Head Hanco, leader of The Burning Corps, the biker gang that patrolled Montana and Wyoming. He had his second-in-Command with him. There was The Chief, leader of the Kansas City Raiders Biker Gang and they patrolled Kansas. Finally there were The Gravel Spiders and The Sentinels. Their leaders were Queen Arachnide and Sentinel Prime, brother and sister. They patrolled South Dakota and Nebraska respectfully. They were always trying to one up the other.
"Thank you all for answering my call. I have received a letter from the Bertrand republic that…" started the Alpha but he was cut off by the Chief who said, "You got one from him as well? So did I" Soon the others all showed letters.
"They asked all of us? What are his intentions?" The Alpha mused.
"Regardless, we're not agreeing to this." Head Hanco said.
"Indeed!" Sentinel Prime said. Queen Arachnide scoffed as she leaned back and crossed her arms, catching the attention of the rest.
"Well that just made my decision easier. I'm siding with the Bertrand Republic. Anything but my brother's side."
"I too will side with the Bertrand Republic." the Chief said. This sparked some cries of protest and indignation from the other two. The two sides began to argue with each other.
"What is this?" Alpha stood up and shot the two sides a look. "If this continues, our Biker Coalition is going to fall apart."
"Why don't you answer the question then?" Queen Arachnide asked as she and the Chief stood on one side of the room. Sentinel Prime and Head Hanco stood on the other side. "Are you with us or against us? Which side do you pick?"
Alpha frowned as he sat down and thought about it. Liberty, or security.
"... With the Bertrand Republic… there's safety for our northern borders. Not to mention the west… I… I think I have to agree to join the Bertrand Republic. For the safety of our people." The two who voted no frowned, but were silent with dirty looks.
Back in the Southern Republic, President Elizabeth had been informed about the attack and the push into her republic by the Bertrand Republic.
"Have the 5th Armored Battalion move up to I-75! Intercept the incoming enemy forces!" she commanded, trying to send all their forces to the border.
"Everyone, send your forces to the border to help keep them out!" she barked onto a video call. Most of the governors closed off to do this, but one remained. The Governor of North Carolina sat there with a strange look. Elizabeth gave him a wary glance.
"Governor Alverez?"
"Apologies, Elizabeth. But I'm afraid I won't be sending my forces to the border."
"What?"
"After all, I allowed the Bertrand Republic to move their forces through the state." Alverez said calmly. However, Elizabeth was anything but calm.
"WHAT?! YOU-! YOU DARE-! YOU TRAITOR!" she roared as she slammed her fists onto the desk with a fierce glare at Alverez.
"President Elizabeth," Alverez said with a condescending tone. "You were new to the Senate, but President Bertrand was one of the best senators the US Had and is a Tactical Genius. So if siding with him brings back the United States, then so be it."
"Worthless bastard!" President Elizabeth cursed angrily and punched her desk as Alverez hung up.
Back in Japan, Nagisa was called into the command center and was greeted by the commanding officer of the 6th Army Transport brigade. Nagisa smiled and said, "Looks like we're going to be working together for this one."
"Indeed. Colonel Takakuwa Akio. Glad to meet the commander of the Acorn Militia. Especially with your recent victories."
"Thank you." Nagisa said. Their conversation was interrupted by the President coming in and greeting the pair.
"Gentlemen, thank you both for coming. The situation is this. The 6th Armored division is trapped and surrounded by the Chugoku kingdom's 2nd Royal Samurai Division. We're having the transport brigade drop you, Colonel Shiota, behind enemy lines and open a pathway for our relief to get in." said the FJR President. Nagisa nodded his head as he heard of how devoted the 2nd Royal Samurai Division was to the Chugoku Kingdom.
"If I may sir, why is my squadron being sent in?"
"Consider this a test of your new position. Show me how you lead a mission."
"Understood sir." Replied Nagisa. He and Colonel Akio saluted the President and walked off. Outside, Colonel Akio had his Boeing CH-47 Chinooks ready to take off as Nagisa and Karma ready the Militia. Nagisa was then shown the new recruits that he would be receiving. They were all graduates of Kunugigaoka, and he even saw two familiar faces. He smiled and said, "Hinata! Hiroto!" the two people he said, armed with Remington 870 shotguns, looked and smiled as they had not seen him and the others for almost 2 long years.
