(AN) Hello and welcome to chapter two of Facing a Past Trauma. I hope you all enjoy, and remember to Read and Review.
I decided to change the story's title to Facing a Past Trauma as it suited the story better and was a far better title.
In the last chapter, Jake and Amy received the news that the 64 would be teaming up with the 99 and that Amy's first captain was still there. This chapter introduces the 64 and Captain John Grimes, reveals some interesting stuff, and we see the 99 squad getting suspicious about Jake and Amy's behaviour.

Chapter Two
Meeting the 64
Jake and Amy exited the break room and soon found the rest of the squad in the bullpen. Terry got up and walked up to the couple. "Hey, is everything okay?" he asked gently, "You seemed pretty tense in the briefing room when Holt talked about Grimes."
Terry noted the brief shudder that Amy did at the mention of that name, which made him question why she looked as if she was going to have a panic attack.
"We're fine, Lieutenant, but thanks for asking," assured Amy before smiling, "We're both just really tired from tracking down members of The Vultures. Think we're going to just head home."
"Yeah, and, Terry, I'm sorry for snapping at you and Holt," apologised Jake before grinning nervously, "We're just s-surprised that we're doing a team up with Amy's old precinct."
"Terry gets what you mean," chuckled the sergeant, "Goodnight."
Jake and Amy both said goodnight to Terry before making their way towards the elevator.
Rosa got up and walked over to Charles's desk. "Boyle!" she hissed, "Come with me. Jake and Amy are clearly hiding something and we need to find out what it is."
"Maybe they're finally trying to get pregnant?" suggested Boyle eagerly.
"Okay, you clearly need to tone it down there, Boyle," retorted Rosa, "No, I think there's something else going on."
Jake and Amy were in the lobby heading towards the exit when sudd3nly, Rosa and Boyle leapt out in front of them, causing the two to yelp in surprise.
"Jesus, how do you even do that?" asked a startled Jake.
"I'm a stealth ninja," retorted Rosa, "Now tell me what's really going on?"
"Are you two finally trying to make a baby Jake?" asked Charles eagerly.
"No, Charles, can you please stop asking that." sighed a frustrated Jake.
"We're just exhausted." lied Amy.
"You two are the worst liars I've ever met," stated Rosa while folding her arms, "There's clearly more to this than just exhaustion from trying to stop The Vultures. You were perfectly fine for most of the day, but as soon as Captain Holt mentioned Captain Grimes, you've been acting tense, and Amy, you looked like you were going to have a panic attack."
Jake and Amy looked at each other before looking back at the two detectives.
"Okay, there is something going on, but you can't tell anybody," answered Amy before leading the three detectives over to a quiet part of the lobby, "Remember when I said that I enjoyed most of my time at the 64? Well, the true reason that I transferred to the 99 was because of Captain Grimes. He gave me the best cases and helped me become a detective, then when I got promoted to detective, Grimes took me out to dinner and tried to kiss me because he felt like he deserved it for helping me to become a detective."
Amy wiped a few stray tears away. Rosa and Charles looked back at her in complete shock.
"Oh my god," muttered Charles in horror, "Amy, I'm so sorry. Well now I feel stupid."
"What for?" asked Rosa, clearly trying to hide the shock from her voice.
"Because on Amy's first day, Jake was the first person she met, and I leapt out and said that I could hear wedding bells." explained Charles.
"Yeah, that was just inappropriate in general." remarked Amy.
"So, I'll take it nobody else knows?" asked Rosa.
"I never felt brave enough to tell anybody," replied Amy in a quiet voice, "I never reported Grimes because I was worried that I wouldn't get any more promotions, and of course the statue of limitations will now apply to that incident. I opened up to Jake about the incident during the Keri Brennan case. That incident was the reason I was so determined to get justice for Ms Brennan."
"Oh," uttered a stunned Rosa, "I'm sorry, Amy, if I'd known that back then, I probably wouldn't have said it was good that she didn't want to report that incident. Are you going to tell Captain Holt?"
"No," answered Amy, "They're old friends, so I can't just spring all of that on him. We'll only be near the 64 for a day, so please don't punch Grimes."
"Dude deserves it though." snarled the female detective.
"Look, Rosa, you and Charles can get in line behind me," commented Jake, "but as much as I want to punch that guy right in the face, Amy doesn't need any violence or any of us getting into trouble right now, what she needs is our support."
"I kinda already got my revenge on Grimes anyway," smirked Amy, "I invited almost all of the 64 squad to the wedding, except for Grimes."
"Ohhh, that's showing the old slimeball." remarked Charles.
Everybody chuckled at this.
Afterwards, Jake and Amy exited the building.
The next day, the whole squad was gathered in the squadroom in order to meet the 64 squad. Jake was feeling nervous. Ever since Amy told him about the incident, he had always wondered how he would react if he ever met the captain of the 64: usually these hypothetical scenarios ended with him either confronting him or punching him in the face, but he wouldn't do the latter today because he'd promised Amy, or at least, he'd try to.
The doors to the elevator opened as it pinged and Captain John Grimes stepped out along with the rest of the 64. Grimes was a tall, chubby, middle-aged man with dark hair that had a few grey patches in it. He wore the uniform of an NYPD captain. The rest of the 64 squad filed into the squadroom. The rest of the 64 were all of average height. There was a man wearing a sergeant's uniform with short blond hair, the others all wore detective uniforms: two men and two women. The first man had ginger hair and the second man had messy, jet black hair. One of the women had darker skin and short black hair while the other one had long blonde hair.
"Ray-Ray!" cheered Grimes as he and Holt shook hands before sharing a hug, "How have you been?"
"Fine thanks," said Holt as they parted from the hug, "Thank you for agreeing to this."
"Not a problem," replied Holt, "Welcome to the 99th precinct, let me introduce you to my squad."
Holt began pointing towards each member of the 99. "Meet Lieutenant Terry Jeffords, Detectives Norman Scully, Michael Hitchcock, Rosa Diaz and Jake Peralta, and of course you know Amy Santiago, who is the NYPD's youngest sergeant."
"Pleasure to meet you all," said Grimes before walking over to Amy, who felt her skin crawl, "Well, well, well, if it isn't Amy Santiago. You didn't invite me to your wedding."
"Must've slipped my mind." said Amy through gritted teeth.
"Clearly," replied the captain as he sneered at Amy, "So, who's the lucky man?"
"That would be me," declared Jake while chuckling nervously and flashing his wedding ring, "Jake Peralta, her husband. Anyway, nice to meet you, Captain Pe-uhhh, I mean, Captain Grimes."
"Nice to meet you too, Peralta," said Grimes before walking back over to his squad, "Allow me to introduce my squad."
Grimes then started pointing towards each squad member. "Sergeant Mike Marshall," he began, indicating the man in the Sergeant's uniform before pointing to the others, "and Detectives Sam Walsh, Olivia Walters, Ben Shepherd and Jo Myles."
The 64 squad began interacting with the 99 squad; swapping tales and chatting to Amy, who was pleased to see most of them. Jo, who was the dark-skinned detective walked up to Amy.
"So, you're the famous Amy Santiago?" said Jo before smiling, "Pleased to meet you, I've heard so much about you."
"Oh," said a surprised Amy, "So, how long have you been working at the 64?"
"I came in a day after you left." answered Jo.
"Really?" said a surprised Amy.
"Hey, Amy," said Sam as he walked over to the two, "Is Captain Grimes still upset about you not inviting him to the wedding?"
"I honestly didn't think he still worked at the 64," replied Amy, "Did he take it badly?"
"Yeah, he did." replied Sam.
Flashback
In the bullpen of the 64, the squad were reading invites they'd received to Jake and Amy's wedding. Grimes walked. "What are you all doing?" he asked curiously.
"Reading our invites to Santiago's wedding," answered Mike cheerfully, "Did you not get one?"
"No … I didn't," sighed Grimes before huffing, "Typical, just typical, I help her become detective and she runs off to the 99, then invites everyone but me to her wedding!"
Grimes kicked a shelf before storming back into his office and slamming the door shut.
End Flashback
Amy couldn't help but grin in satisfaction. "His invite got lost." she lied.
"Well, it's a bit weird how you left so abruptly," said Sam, "We were worried that we'd done something to upset you."
"You didn't," assured Amy, "I just felt like it wasn't the right fit for me. Now if you'll excuse me, I-I need to do some … sergeant's work."
And with that, Amy turned on her heels and walked towards the elevator.
Jake was currently keeping a close watch on Captain Grimes. The 64 captain came across as quite charming, but the detective wasn't fooled for a second.
"What you doin', Jake?" asked Boyle as he came to sit next to his friend.
"Keeping an eye on Grimes," explained Jake, "I know I shouldn't be worried, but I'm just worried he might hurt Amy."
"I get you, man," said Charles, "Dammit, I can't see him."
"Me neither." said the other detective in alarm as he'd now lost Grimes.
On the ground floor, Amy was wandering down a deserted corridor, trying to clear her head. Suddenly, Grimes appeared from behind and tapped Amy on the shoulder, causing her to whirl round. "C-Captain Grimes, what are you doing down here?"
"I just wanted to talk." sneered Grimes as he walked closer to the sergeant, "You left the 64 very quickly, after everything I did for you."
"You know full well why I left," said Amy nervously, "You buttered me up and then you tried to kiss me. You may have everyone else fooled, but not me, and especially not my husband"
Grimes laughed loudly. "I earned that!" he snapped, "I think I deserve a reward any time one of my female employees gets promoted. If you'd stayed on I would have given myself something … more than a kiss."
And without warning, the 64 captain ran over and wrapped an arm around Amy's shoulder, he then tried touching her bottom with his other hand. "GET AWAY FROM ME!" she yelled before shoving Grimes away and then running off.
Amy raced into the ground floor bullpen, went into the elevator and burst into the bullpen, where she ran headfirst into Jake, knocking him to the floor.
"Oh, Jake, I'm so sorry." cried Amy in a panicky voice as she helped her husband to his feet.
"It's fine," replied Jake before looking at Amy in concern, "Are you okay?"
"No," whimpered Amy, "Grimes cornered me downstairs, told me he would've deserved more if I stayed at the 64, and then he put his arm around my shoulder and then he tried touching my bottom."
"Alright, that's it, we're telling Captain Holt." stated a horrified Jake as he gave Amy a hug.
"Tell me what, Peralta?" asked a familiar, robotic voice.
Jake and Amy turned to see Holt staring at them curiously. "My office, now." he ordered.
Jake and Amy silently followed Holt into his office. Holt quickly closed the door and shut the blinds before sitting behind his desk. Jake and Amy stood in front of the desk.
"Now please tell me what's going on?" asked Holt, "Ever since I brought up John Grimes, you've both been on edge: Peralta, you look like you want to punch Grimes and Santiago, you looked like you were on the verge of having a panic attack. So, I'll ask again: is there something that I should know about?"
Jake and Amy looked at each other and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, sir, there is," replied Amy nervously, "Back when I worked at the 64, Captain Grimes helped me to become detective by handing me the best cases, then when I made detective, he invited me to a restaurant to celebrate, but the rest of the 64 weren't invited. Then halfway through, Grimes tried to kiss me, I pushed him away and asked him what he was doing and he said that he felt he deserved something for helping me become detective … I ran out of the restaurant, returned to the office and transferred to the 99; my reason being that it wasn't a good fit for me anymore."
Whatever Holt had been expecting, it definitely wasn't that. The 99 captain looked at Amy in complete shock.
"Oh my god," uttered Holt in shock, "I'm so sorry. Did you report him?"
"No, sir," answered Amy in a quiet voice, "I was afraid that if I reported him, then I wouldn't get any more promotions. You believe me, right? I-I mean, I know he's your friend-
"Of course I believe you, Amy," replied Holt, "There's no way that you'd make something like that up. I assume you already know about this, Peralta?"
"Amy opened up to me about it during the Keri Brennan case," informed Jake, "that's why she took it so personally."
"Captain Grimes cornered me downstairs in an empty corridor," informed Amy, "H-he told me that he would have deserved more than just a kiss if I had stayed on at the 64, then he put his arm around my shoulder and tried touching my bottom."
"Oh damn," muttered Holt in shock, "We can always go and tell the 64 that we no longer want their help."
"No," replied Amy abruptly, "The rest of the 64 squad don't know what Grimes is really like, they don't deserve to be punished for his actions. The 64 and the 99 deserve to take The Vultures down together."
"So we're just supposed to wait for this guy to actually do something?" said Jake, who didn't like this idea at all.
"Not necessarily," put in Holt, "Santiago, with your permission, I'd like to loop in the rest of the squad on this situation."
"Rosa and Charles already know," informed Amy, "But yeah, I think we should inform Terry, Hitchcock and Scully."
"Ams, are you sure?" asked Jake gently.
"Yeah, I'm sure." answered the sergeant.
Holt soon gathered the rest of the squad for a private meeting in the briefing room. Jake and Amy stood with him at the front of the room.
"Okay, I know that this meeting is short notice and right before we're meant to take down The Vultures, but it couldn't wait," began Holt, "Sergeant Santiago has something that she wishes to share with you."
Jake gave Amy a reassuring pat on the shoulder. Amy took Holt's place at the stand. The sergeant told Terry, Hitchcock and Scully everything that she had said to Jake, Rosa, Charles and Holt.
"There's also something else I need to say," said Amy, "You all remember that bet me and Jake once did, right?"
Everybody nodded in agreement. Nobody was ever likely to forget that anytime soon."
"Well, that incident was a part of why I agreed to the bet," explained Amy, "I wanted to prove that I could get to where I am now without anybody's help. It's also the reason that I'm always so desperate for Captain Holt's approval."
Amy allowed Holt to take up position at the stand once more.
Terry, Hitchcock and Scully had looks of shock and horror.
"That's terrible!" cried Hitchcock in shock.
"Guy sounds like a creep." added Scully.
"What!" cried Terry in horror, "We're not seriously still working with this guy, are we?"
"I don't like it anymore than you do, Jeffords, but Sergeant Santiago feels that we shouldn't punish the rest of the 64," explained Holt, "We just need to ensure that Grimes doesn't get the chance to be alone with her. Once the takedown has been completed, we'll then focus on dealing with Grimes."
(AN) And that was chapter two of Facing a Past Trauma. I hope you all enjoy and remember to Read and Review.
The reveal regarding the bet was inspired by a theory I saw in a Youtube comment.
In the next chapter, we witness the takedown of The Vultures, but could something more happen after that? You'll just have to wait and see.
Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
