Thirteen months later, everything was all set. The gang of five had managed to break out of the Riker's prison. It hadn't been easy. They had all switched places with different wardens and snuck out. They had knocked the wardens out cold and stole their clothes, then hooked up later on the outside even though it was at a different time. They all knew where their hideout rendezvous was.
Now that they were together again, they could proceed.
The leader of the gang called himself Lyle. His comrades were Riley, Skit, Winzer, and Pat. Lyle had light brown hair, brown eyes, and stood about 5'6. He and his friends all wore things that gang members did like leather jackets, long shorts, white shirts.
"Riley, you are in charge of ammunition." Lyle directed. Riley nodded. He had red hair, blue eyes, and stood at 5'8. He was also very buff.
"Winzer, you get the drugs." He nodded in reply. Winzer had dark brown hair, green eyes, and stood at 5'9.
"Skit, you and Pat are backup. Pat, you will drive the van whenever we catch the devil." Lyle ordered.
Skit had blonde hair, blue eyes, and stood at 5'8. Pat had auburn hair, light brown eyes, and stood at around 5'5.
All the men were determined to get that gargoyle back for what he had done to them. They didn't take defeat well. Now they were just going to keep an eye out for the creature they wanted sweet revenge on.
But they also saw in the news that there was going to be an important jewel coming to the city and they were going to be determined to steal it.
…..
There had been an alert on the news that some five men had broken out of the Rikers Island prison. The clan would keep an eye out for them. But these men were unknown to the gargoyles by name unlike when the Pack was broken out of there.
Brooklyn was still on his own here in the clan, still wishing for his life mate. He often grew really jealous of what his brother, Broadway and Angela had together. Anytime he was assigned to patrol with them, he really felt like a third wheel. He would see them holding hands and it made him sick. They seemed to ignore him most of the time until there was real trouble.
He preferred to patrol alone or with Lex or Hudson most of the time. Even with Goliath so he could learn more from him about being a leader. Goliath never let Angela patrol alone with Brooklyn. He always had to be there when they were together. It was like Goliath knew that his Second in Command had a thing for his daughter, but when patrolling, he wanted them to be concentrating on the business at hand.
Brooklyn sometimes wondered why the others in the clan ever tolerated his presence. Even after his runaway lesson, he still felt unwanted at times. Even Lex would be babysitting or working on his inventions, being the technology expert that he was. But Lex still found time for him too.
Hudson and Bronx still stayed home quite a bit of the time, but Hudson sometimes took Bronx over to see his friend Robbins and Gilly, or out to Central Park for exercise.
Broadway and Angela went out on dates a lot in the city or here at home.
Goliath had dates with Elisa too. Fox and David did as well. Owen would watch or teach Alex lessons.
Brooklyn had his role of Second in Command, but what was his role when the clan had nothing to do? He was often bored out of his mind. He and his brothers were rarely seen as the Trio that they once were as children.
…
The men were ready to collect their prize. Now they just had to wait for him to come to them. They were being careful to avoid police detection.
Lyle decided that perhaps the park might be a good place to try to find their gargoyle. But while waiting for him, they were going to steal the jewel that was coming to the city in a few days.
….
In the next few days, they didn't see the gargoyle, so they went ahead and stole the jewel from the museum. It was now theirs.
It was seen on the news that the jewel had been stolen and it alerted the gargoyles too. Goliath doubled their patrols. Only when there was real trouble in the city would he do this.
Brooklyn was often with his brothers, Goliath, or Broadway and Angela. Hudson still took it easy with him being a lot older. Brooklyn hated being with Broadway and Angela together. It was better if he was with his brothers alone.
This night, Brooklyn was with Lexington. He was glad to be with him versus Broadway. They had been at odds lately. Brook and Lex were patrolling near Central Park this night.
"Brooklyn, have you been doing okay?" Lex asked.
"I'm just tired of feeling like a third wheel every time I get assigned to our brother and Angela." Brooklyn replied grumpily.
"The right female will come along for you, Brook." Lex said.
"I just wish she would come about now."
Now, far from them, one of the men, Winzer, spotted them. He had night vision binoculars. He used his radio to call Lyle. "Boss, I have the monster on my radar. He has a smaller companion with him."
"Good job. Finally." Lyle smirked evilly. "Shoot his companion down."
"Yes, Sir." Winzer replied.
The others were notified as well, and they got together. Out of them, Pat was the best shooter. He had a tranq dart ready. With night vision goggles on, he took aim on Lexington and blew the dart into the air as the two gargoyles passed over them.
The dart came out of nowhere and it hit Lex in the chest. He cried out in pain. Brooklyn reacted to his brother's cry. "What's wrong, Lex?" he asked.
"Something hit me." Lex replied, then his vision got blurry. The drug was taking effect right away. It made him stop being able to glide on his own and he started to fall.
"NO!" Brooklyn shouted then folded his wings up and dove after Lex. He had to get him before he hit pavement or the ground.
"Good. He's now ours." Winzer stated. "He's coming our way. Be ready."
Brooklyn landed with Lex on a rooftop. He set his brother down and he pulled the dart out of his chest. "Lex, can you hear me?" he asked. This wasn't good. Who would shoot his brother? He looked around and didn't see anyone. He could only stand guard over Lex and wait for him to wake up. He seemed to be alright otherwise.
From up on another building, staying hidden behind a shed, the men were watching some more and Winzer took a new dart into the blowgun. He took aim on the red gargoyle next. He blew it and the dart went flying outward to the target.
"AGH!" Brooklyn cried out in pain when he felt a sharp sting in his back. He had felt one in his back once before, a long time ago when he first met Maggie. Then the drug started affecting him too. He had to stay awake, but it was taking him fast. He fell to his knees, and then started going down on his stomach.
The men were athletes enough that they could jump the rooftop and got closer to the gargoyles.
In his blurry vision, Brooklyn made out human shapes as he finally went under.
"Get him on his back." Lyle ordered.
Skit and Riley came over and picked Brooklyn up and turned him onto his back. Lyle came over to examine him from just a glance. "Not so tough now are you, Monster?!" he exclaimed. "Bring him!"
"What about the other one?" Pat asked.
"Leave him. I want the one that ruined our lives!" Lyle snarled.
The men cheered. Brooklyn was picked up while Lex was left on the rooftop to wake up on his own. They took him to their van, his wrists and ankles tied up.
"When we get him to the hideout, we have to get him in chains. They turn to stone in the daytime and stone can break ropes." Lyle explained.
"What are we going to restrain him on?" Riley asked.
"For the rest of tonight, I want him in the standing chains. Tomorrow night, he gets the real treatment." Lyle declared.
"Which is?" Skit asked.
"You'll find out later." Lyle stated.
The men soon got the red male to their hideout and carried him to the wall where they untied his hands and put them in cuffs. His ankles were put into cuffs on the floor. They didn't want him going anywhere. Brooklyn's head hung limply at the moment. His tail was out to the left side of his left leg. They didn't think it was a threat.
"Just keep the drug ready should he be a threat when he comes to." Lyle ordered. "I definitely have some plans for him that will be done to him to what he did to me."
The men didn't question him at this time. They could only wait and watch.
