A/N: Wrote this for temps_mort and thought I might post it here. But only until ff.net gets a Clover section! *hint, hint!* "ahem," hope you enjoy the fic. ^_^

"Ran?"
A tall man with light blond hair and a pair of shaded glasses poked his head in a darkly lit room and searched it with his eyes until he saw a young looking boy with black hair and blue eyes sitting on the window sill.
"What is it Gingetsu-san?"
Ran sat, still gazing wistfully out the window at the light filled city below and yet, giving Gingetsu his utmost attention at the same time.
"I just thought I'd tell you that I'm leaving for another mission now...I won't be back until early tomorrow morning."
Gingetsu trailed off and gazed at Ran, waiting for something, although he didn't know what.
"Alright."
Ran replied simply, still watching the lights from his window.
"Do you want me to bring you anything from the outside?"
Although Gingetsu asked, he already knew the answer that was coming.
"NoI'll be fine."
Sighing, Gingetsu pulled on his cloak and turned to leave.
"Well then, I'll be back later"
He closed the door to the room and began to walk away when the sounds of a scramble could be heard. He turned around just in time to see the door to the room open up again and a small head peek out shyly at him.
"Ran what-"
He was cut off as the small boy walked out of the room and thrust something into his hands. Still shocked, he looked down to see that in his hands, was a tiny lantern, fashioned in the shape of a clover.
"In case the place where Gingetsu-san goes is dark"
Ran smiled up at him, hands entwined behind his back.
"now you can always turn on a light, right Gingetsu-san?"
Remembering when the boy had first come to stay with him, Gingetsu couldn't help but feel immensely touched. Not being able to explain it properly, he smiled instead.
"Well, I'll be going now."
He was stopped once more by the sound of Ran's voice.
"Gingetsu-san"
Looking back over his shoulder at the boy, he could see worry written all over his face.
"be careful."
Opening the door and stepping out he smiled back at Ran.
"Don't worry, I will. Thank you for the gift."
And with that he closed the door and therefore didn't hear Ran as he lifted his head in protest and whispered, "Nothank you, Gingetsu-san."
And as Ran sat in his room watching the fire of the candlelight flicker this way and that, the words that he so treasured repeated in his mind.
"If it gets dark, you can always turn on a light"
A light smile crossed his features making him look quite serene and contentedalmost happy. His smile widened at this. Yes, with Gingetsu, he just mightbe able to become happy.
