So I've been meaning to mention this but keep forgetting but the taunting rhyme the other cubs would torment Cactus with in the first chapter is more or less taken from the Cordwainer Smith short story 'The Lady Who Sailed The Soul' more or less the same rhyme was to torment the heroine of that story Helen America
Cactus yawned her large mouth showing her Peccary fangs kept sparkling white from always brushing them before bed.
"You must be exhausted..." G said "...We can continue talking in the morning...I'll take you to my old room, I don't sleep there anymore."
They left the kitchen, now that she had eaten and her eyes had adjusted to the darkness, Cactus was beginning to realize her intimidation of this place had come more from its scent than by its sights. (It smelled like a hospital to her, and Cactus never liked hospitals) and the shadows cast by the large machines, but looking more closely at the machines themselves most of them just looked like collections of pipes or like old fashoned furnices.
Cactus had always been a fan of ghost stories and horror, she loved the children's horror TV shows things that made other cubs in her school shriek and close their eyes and ears Cactus would eagerly keep watching while shoveling popcorn in her mouth...Her Uncles said that was her Peccary Fortitude while they may not be 'True Pigs' they still had the toughness of the Wild Boar, things that make more delicate species shudder annd faint the Tenacious Peccary Race charge foreward without hesitation! But now that she was in an unfamilar world in a place that at the very least had seedy connotations to her she realized she had been beginning to let her imagination run away with her.
G opened a door revealing...A nursrey, the bed was a bed not a crib but there were bay toys and a bookshelf with books meant for younger reasons.
G sighed "I realize you're probobly a bit too old for most of this stuff."
"This was your room?" Cactus said "I thought you were already an adult when you were mutated..." As she knew enough from her own genetic memories/primodial instincts that a piglet would not stray far from his mother when foraging for food.
"I was an adult." G said "But as a wild animal I had no knowladge of human culture I had to be taught my ABCs and 123s taught to speak human language and...All the other things about being civilized..." Obviously he didn't want to go into learning to be housebroken "So even though I was mutated as an adult I still had to start at the very beginning...In a way it was like being a child all over again..."
Looking at his old toys he sighed "I really loved playing the ringtoss game always trying to see how I could beat my previous record."
"What do you think will happen to Mom?" Cactus asked
"Now now," G said "We can talk about that later...If I tell you now you're very likely to get nightmares...You'll probobly have nightmares either way with what you saw earlier but we can talk about that in the morning when you're well rested."
Cactus had to concede that was fair, she could see she took a lot from her Dad being logical and practical, some of her classmates found her cold and unemotional; unlike her Mother who was romantic and whimsical (It was probobly the reason she fell in love with a mysterious stranger who gave off vibes that normal Humanimals didn't, to her it seemed like something out of romance novel or the handsome Prince Charming from the myserious, ethreal...Far far away...)
Cactus got undressed and slipped into the bed which was cozier than she expected given she was in a laboratory as soon as her head hit the pillow she began drifting off into dream land...Even though the dreams would likely not be pleasant ones, she knew she would have to face them regardless...
OK next chapter we'll feature some actual canon characters as there is going to be a timeskip as Cactus comes to Third Earth in 2001 (The Turtles are like 12 at this point in time) and in the Mutant Riots the Mutant Civil Rights Act happens in 2006 (After the events of Season 5)
