The silence grew heavy as Hikaru watched the ambulance leave, his injured friend nestled in the back. He breathed in deeply, before whirling and kicking a nearby bush with his shoe.

"Fuck this! Fuck Vamdemon! None of this would have fucking happened if Vamdemon hadn't planned an invasion." He was so livid he could barely speak coherently.

Hikaru noticed the Digimon slink out of their hiding places and he turned a glare on them. "And you knew about the invasion before Wizarmon even told us! Why didn't you help the real Chosen escape whatever predicament they got into?"

"Hey! That's hardly fair!" Plotmon X snapped back at her partner, the shy, meek persona gone in an instant. "We didn't know your friend was going to get attacked! So lay off!"

Hikaru was caught off guard by his partner's personality switch and couldn't say anything for a moment. But when he had recovered… "You didn't say anything about not helping the real Chosen… Why didn't you help them?"

The X-Antibody Child level shook her head. "Because we couldn't. We were on watch as it was, even without Wizarmon actively breaching the barrier. Wizarmon only accelerated Vamdemon's plan to begin the invasion."

Hikaru took a moment to process this new information, but he visibly deflated afterwards. "Ah. Well, sorry then…" He trailed off after his apology, feeling bad for taking out his anger on the Digimon.

"Don't be sorry, Hikaru. It's not your fault." Plotmon X came up to her Chosen and leaned her head against his leg. She felt bad that Miyuki had been attacked, but also felt that Hikaru's reaction was justified, if a bit heavy on the language.

Hikaru glanced down, conflicted on how to respond to his partner Digimon's reassurances. He exhaled a few times, thinking on what to say next. Finding himself at a loss for words, he said instead: "I don't know how she's going to be after this." She'd been excited to be a Chosen, but this will probably shake her confidence a lot… He shuddered a little, thinking of all the changes that'd happen.

"Anyway, we should probably head back. Shouldn't we, Hikaru?" He heard Plotmon X ask him and he belatedly nodded his head.

"Yeah." Hikaru sighed, wondering how he was going to explain to Miyuki's father what had happened. The young boy knew Miyuki's family would be extremely worried when they heard.

The next day, Miyuki was in a sour mood. She had been operated on and woke up at the end of it to be told she had lost her left eye completely. The nurses also mentioned that she would have depth perception issues and would need therapy to help with her balance.

"I'm not going to therapy." Miyuki insisted, stubborn to the end.

"You will go." One of the nurses who wasn't used to her tenacity tried to enforce, her mouth set in a thin line.

Miyuki turned a glare on that nurse. "No. I'm not. You can't make me." If she was being completely honest, she would probably go to one or two but not participate in anything further than that. She didn't need depth perception therapy. Miyuki was too proud to actually say that, though.

Miyuki looked to her father as he turned to the nurse and just shook his head, indicating to the woman to let it go. She raised an eyebrow and frowned, but didn't say anything more, before walking out of the room at the same time Hikaru entered.

Miyuki didn't even give her friend a chance to relax. "I hate Digimon." She growled out.

She watched him stare at her in surprise, before realization and then acceptance crossed his face. Before he could speak, Miyuki bit out at him. "I don't want your pity or sympathy… or whatever else you were gonna dump on me. I want revenge on the Digimon." Her sole remaining eye was narrowed to show her ferocity.

Miyuki observed Hikaru breathe out awkwardly. "You don't want revenge on our partners too, do you?" She heard him ask, the question tentative.

She gave him a deadpan stare. "Really? They're Digimon too, so…"

Hikaru spluttered a response, but she had fallen quiet. Withdrawing into her thoughts, Miyuki chose to reflect on everything that had happened so far.

How the actual living fuck did I get into this? Why am I a Chosen? Why was I chosen? How will my family respond to me being a Chosen? Will they try to stop me? Turning to Dracomon, who had snuck into the room behind Hikaru, she addressed her partner coldly.

"Who are the keepers of order in the Digital World? Who judges the baddies? What did Wizarmon mean by what he said, regarding 'there are those who'd like to end us?'"

Dracomon was overwhelmed. The small dragon shook his head, lips not quite trembling yet. "I can't possibly know that stuff. It's above the level of my current knowledge. I'm sorry, Miyuki."

"I don't believe you. Tell me what I want to know!" Miyuki insisted, as she raised her voice. She glared at her partner, sure of herself that he was hiding information on the higher ups in the Digital World.

Dracomon took a long moment to breathe in, but could not compose himself and the tears started. "I don't know anything. I swear I don't." All he wanted was for Miyuki to stop.

Miyuki did a complete shift, personality wise. "Then you're pathetic. I have no idea why you're my partner Digimon. You're useless if you don't know the answers to that stuff." She turned her head away from Dracomon and settled back in the hospital bed. She was done with the conversation.

The tears streamed down Dracomon's face and he tried to stifle his sobbing. "B-But we're partners. Miyuki, you can't do this-"

Miyuki's voice was icy cold as she spoke her next words. "Shut. Up." She did not look at Dracomon as she said that.

"Okay, Miyuki. That was too far." It was Hikaru this time.

Miyuki jerked her head around at Hikaru's comment, her right eye blazing with fury. "Does it look like I fucking care? Digimon are horrible creatures. We wouldn't even be in this situation if Wizarmon hadn't warned us of the invasion." She hissed, seething.

She watched Hikaru like a hawk, observing his silence and attempt to respond. "I know. I'm sorry, Miyuki." Miyuki heard him finally speak after a heavy sigh. "I really am sorry."

"Just get out. And take the Digimon with you." Miyuki retorted and settled into the bed again.

"As you wish." Hikaru flicked his eyes at her. He patted his leg with a hand, wordlessly calling Dracomon and Plotmon X to his side as he left the room. They hurried after him, Miyuki observed silently.

A couple of hours later after Hikaru and Miyuki's father had left, Miyuki was by herself. She was stewing in the bed, silent, as she thought about the whole situation one more time. Miyuki started swearing under her breath as the recollection of the attack came back to her again.

The next thing she knew, the door to the ward opened and a figure came through. Miyuki eyed them, suspicious. "Who're you?"

The person was very tall and had a cloak on for some reason. They didn't answer Miyuki straight away, which made her even more wary. She watched them closely as they examined the room, before they turned their gaze on her.

"Who are you?" Miyuki insisted, her voice rising a little as she tried to determine who the stranger was.

The person brought their hands up to the hood of their cloak and pulled it down. "My my, aren't you the impatient one?" They chuckled, low.

Wait, why am I the only one who can…? Miyuki realized with a start.

"I'm a Digimon, yes." The Digimon clarified, seeing Miyuki come to the realization no one else in the ward could see the creature. "You're very smart for someone so young."

"Oh shut up!" Miyuki bit out. "What do you want?" She was angry that a Digimon had managed to evade hospital staff and security. What did they want? Who were they?

"My name is Vamdemon. I think the better question is, who are you?"

Miyuki's face drained of all colour as she realized she was staring into the eyes of their enemy. Her body went completely still. She didn't respond.

"Come now. I don't have time for idle chatter. Who are you?" She heard Vamdemon repeat himself.

Miyuki glanced down at her hands. They were shaking slightly. She did her best to swallow away her fear and gave her best glare to the monster who had invaded Odaiba.

"Miyuki Hayashi. I'm a Chosen. My partner is Dracomon." Miyuki did her absolute best to sound brave.

The vampire Digimon stared in shock for a moment, not saying anything. "Oh, you're a Chosen, are you? I have a wonderful idea. How would you like to join me?"

"Seriously? You can fuck off."

Vamdemon shook his head. "Oh, don't be like that. I think you'd do well in my army. How does your bond with your Digimon work? I imagine you don't have Crests, so tell me how you plan on getting to the Perfect level."

"Okay, I don't think you're listening. I told you once and I'm gonna tell you again. Fuck off. I am not joining you." Miyuki's voice dripped with venom. She hated Digimon and she was gonna get rid of Vamdemon if it took all her might to do so.

"I'm not going to ask again." Miyuki watched him offer his hand and she huffed, irritated.

"Last mistake, monster. FUCK. OFF. It was one of your soldiers who did this." Miyuki gestured to her missing eye.

There was silence as Vamdemon processed this, before he started laughing. Miyuki observed him brazenly shrug in her face, before he turned and left the room.

She tilted her head in confusion. What the actual fuck? Did he just shrug me off, laugh and then leave? That was the most bizarre thing I've ever encountered . "Odd motivation for a villain…" Miyuki mused to herself, finding herself glancing in the direction that he'd left.
