Background info:
Lily Evans is a 7th year Ravenclaw, she is head girl along with James Potter as head boy, although she doesn't seem to get on with him.
She is going out with another 7th year- Severus Snape, and has been for about a year.
At first he seemed the perfect gentleman, but then started to turn nasty and hits Lily. But she is ok with it because he always says sorry and that he didn't mean it. Nobody else knows how he treats her.
James begins to get a little suspicious but when he confronts her about it she denies it and gets angry with him.
Finally Snape goes too far and forces Lily to do something which she is not ready for.
She avoids him at all costs, snaps at anyone who talks to her, her grades start to fall (She is a top student normally) and any time a sudden movement is made or someone touches her she jumps.
James is the only one who notices. James cornered Lily, she backed away scared.
"Lil, what has he done to you?"
"Who done to me?"
"Snape! Come on I'm not stupid! You've been avoiding him all week, you snap at everyone and every time anyone goes to touch you, you get scared."
Lily burst into silent tears.
"What did he do?" James asked sympathetically, as he put his arm around her to comfort her.
"He made me... He made me... do...it!"
"What?"
"IT!" James' face went from one of confusion slowly to one of anger and rage, as it dawned on him, what "IT" meant.
"That little! I'm gonna get him for this!"
"No James, don't do anything... It's my fault, I deserved it!"
"Deserved it? Did you not tell him to stop?"
"Well yeah... I did.. But it was my fault really! I mean I shouldn't have been dressed so tartily!"
"Lil, you either want to or don't!" James said calmly, although his fists were clenched and his face was screwed up.
"Lily, does he hit you?"
"He doesn't mean to, I mean I make him, it's my fault and I deserve It."
"The only person who deserves to be hit is him! Never ever let anyone hit you! You DONT deserve it WHATEVER you do! If that little Sod ever goes near you again, tell me and I will sort him out! OK?"
"No, don't hurt him! He loves me really, he doesn't mean to!"
"If he loved you, he would leave you!"
"Who are you to lecture me anyway? You've never had a serious relationship in your whole life!"
"Maybe I just haven't found the right person yet! You only go out with Snape because you think you can't do any better. Even though he has nothing in common with you and he hits you! But your wrong you can do better than that piece of S**t!"
"Ow yeah! Who then? Who is better?!?"
James looked at her in silence. Lily stormed off.
"Me!" James whispered, he couldn't stand anybody abusing Lily, especially Snape, his archenemy. "Why would she stand for that when she could have it so much better with me?" James thought out loud. Little did he know a small red head was on her way back down to apologised, and had heard everything!
