Dominus' Letter
A take off of the dead letter concept
This was written purely to see if I could write Roger proprely. Mmm...not so much in my opinion.
Anyways, I hope some of you like it. Feedback is, naturally, welcome.
Dorothy---
I hate to be cliché, or even just melodramatic, but if you are reading this, then that means I am dead.
I'm sure you are wondering why this was written. You see, us humans do things like this in preparation for our deaths, aside from the standard will and funeral arrangements. A lot of it is to make our loved ones and acquaintances feel better, as if by writing them a letter we are leaving a bit of ourselves behind for them to keep close to them.
More to the point, it's to get things off our chests that we have always wanted to say or do. It is so that someone out there gets to hear what we forgot to say or even everything that we remembered to say. Memories to warm the heart or to make it bleed worse, whichever is the desired effect for the desired reader.
Norman, I am certain, is taking this in stride, just as he takes everything. Make sure he gives the Gryphon a good waxing and that he keeps cooking his eggs scrambled with cheese, just the way I like them.
Dastun is devastated, isn't he? We may have had our differences, but he has done a lot of good for me and for Paradigm. Have a scotch neat with him for me, will you?
Angel…. If you can even find her, tell Angel that I meant what I said at the beach. Of course, because of that, she most likely already knows, but still. Tell her I meant what I said, and that maybe one day she'll be back up where she belongs. Then maybe I can say this to her face-to-face, assuming, of course, that I have ended up there as well.
As for you…there are several things I need for you to do as well. For one thing, make sure you play the blues for me every morning. You know, that one song you always played when you said you felt like it. I know the effect is lessened without me there to yell at you, but go on and do it.
I'd also like for you to have your painting. I know it's not much and that I do not possess much talent, but I would still like for you to have it.
Come to think of it, your coat and that portrait are the only things I ever gave you, aren't they? I am sorry for that, as I know how much young ladies enjoy receiving gifts.
Yes, you are a young lady and I am, indeed, referring to you as a person.
Dorothy, you are not human, but that does not make you any less of a person. That is something you've taught me well over the last year or so. And, if I never ask anything of you again (which, yes, we both know is a fairly accurate statement), please believe me when I say that.
Regardless of where you may be taken in your life Dorothy, I am certain that you will be all right. Be sure to continue assisting Norman with the day-to-day activities, and be sure to pilot Big O when the need arises.
Take care of yourself, Dorothy. Norman as well.
Sincerely,
Roger Smith
