A deep auburn glow covered the room, flickering flames the only light source in the otherwise ebony atmosphere. The subtle illumination should have hindered sight but it perfectly exhibited the two entwined figures, softening their golden bodies, surrounding them with a fuzzy amber haze.

Their surroundings were of little consequence; their attention trained only on each other. All they knew about was each other, they only cared for the body they held. Their world contained only them, nothing else tainted their perfection, the perfection of one another.

Nothing but the constant crackling broke the quiet. Words, sounds, were not needed. More could be said with the embrace of silence than hurried whispers or frantic mumblings. They required no speech when their eyes spoke volumes.

They felt heat, tingling warmth from the strength of the opposing gaze. Tendrils of fire licked eagerly at their skin, the heat of their stares so intense. It simmered their blood, teased their hair, but never became uncomfortable, warmed yet never scalded.

Calloused hands caressed satin, delighting in the contours and textures of the skin. The deep ridges of a weatherworn face, the bristly roughness of untamed facial hair. The sleek sheen of perspiration beading dainty cheeks. The delicate flutter of sooty eyelashes as the hand stroked dampened cheek bones. Butterfly kisses, feather light, as a petal to the wind.

Experienced fingers toyed with corn silk wisps, carefully entwining within them. Wrapping their glossy strands between them, over them, round them, trapping them tightly yet gently. Tugging the silken strands tenderly, awestruck playing, as a child with a china doll.

Eye lines met, deep meaningful words spilled forth, floating through the air, clear, insistent, silent. Pupils stung with spiteful tears, unwanted, unneeded, unshed. No break in their gaze allowed to free the glittering diamonds that sparkled in the light, creating a thousand tiny mirrors. Windows to the soul into the very deepest core of their heart, reflections of each other.

A heady thick scent swirled within their nostrils, enticing them, calling them, tempting them close. The sweet smell of each other, of smoke, alcohol and sweat, head achingly strong, impossibly addictive, sending their senses into a dizzy overdrive until they clung tightly to each other, with no room for breath between their flaming bodies.

Flesh pressed against flesh, chestnut against chestnut, blaze against blaze. Lips embraced lips, desperately, hungrily. Tongues clashed, danced joyfully, retreated. Lips brushed lips, gently, affectionately, finally.

Long into the night the Pearl blazed, flames ravenously devouring everything they touched, until only a charred shell remained, sinking slowly beneath the insistent waves of the ocean.
