We Cats Can't Do Anything

A short story by: Dashort1 Luna pawed through the list of advertisements from the newspaper. She was trying to find the ad for the new bookstore. Suddenly, she was lifted off the table roughly, just barely managing to grab the newspaper with her outstretched claws. It was Usagi's mom, as usual.
"Cute little kitties with crescent moon bald spots shouldn't be playing on the table! UUUUSAAAGGIII! Come down, will you!"
Sheesh, I never see her reading it, mumbled Luna.
"What did you say, sweet little kitty with odd shaped mark on forehead? You know kitties aren't allowed to talk, sweetheart! Usagi, tell your brother I'm going to work now. Don't forget to clean your room, and tell Shingo to sweep the downstairs floor. Have a nice day!" She grabbed her bag and swept out the door. Usagi grinned down at Luna, her hair half done.
"That's right, sweet little kitty. You can't talk, remember."
"Shut up, you. I can't see why she talks to me like that. All cute and babyish. I mean, she yells at you."
Usagi quickly twisted the bun on the left side of her head, and tweaked Luna's nose.
"Well, she still thinks you're just a sweet little thing. I guess mom doesn't realize how nasty you are."
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"Not!"
"Are!"
Luna swept up and sunk one of her sharp claws into Usagi's bun.
"Baka Usagi. Quit talking to your cat." Shingo, Usagi's little brother, said as he slid down the railing.
"Don't you have things you need to do?" mumbled Usagi.
"So what if I do, do you? Naw, of course ya wouldn't. Seeing as you have no friends." Usagi exploded with rage.
"YOU SLIMY LITTLE GIT! WHY WOULD IT MATTER TO YOU WHETHER OR NOT I HAVE THINGS TO DO! ERRGGHHH!!!" Shingo just stared at his sister, then cracked up with laughter.
"Sheesh, you didn't have to be such a spaz, ya know."
"ERRGGHHHH!!!!" Usagi stomped off, leaving Luna and Shingo alone. Shingo stared at Luna for a long moment, and then walked off, muttering.
What is the problem with these people? I don't understand! Well, I have things I need to be doing. Bookstore, here I come!
Her paws making no sound as she crossed the kitchen floor, Luna made her way toward the open back door. Squeezing through the crack created by the mass of book bags, Luna popped outside.
Making her way quickly across the lonely street, Luna took a giant leap up onto the sidewalk; she walked to the entrance of the bookstore. As soon as she entered, a huge man picked her up by the scruff of her neck, and rudely dumped her head first onto the street.
"No pets. Stay away." Oh my God. The indignity of it all! Cats aren't allowed anything! All I wanted to do was get a simple, single science book! And look what happens! I get kicked out! Ah, I bet if Artemis was trying, he would shoe that big ole, mean old man outta the way. Sigghhhh.
