The View From My Perch

I shouldn't be here, but for now I sit, watching her world from my perch.

The View from My Perch

I shouldn't be here

Sitting so high in my tree

Home is far away

But I'd rather be here

With her

She can't see me

She doesn't know I'm here

So I watch and wait

She crosses by her window

Fixing her hair for bed

The evening is getting older

She opens her window and looks out

I hide deeper

She looks around and retreats to bed

The city is bright

The lights and sounds are chaotic

But she looks so peaceful

In the world of dreams

The night is getting colder

A shiver runs down my back

She shivers too

I leave my tree

I'm in her room in one leap

I pull the covers up to her chin

The shivering stops

'Thank you' she whispers as I walk away

She is still asleep

I look back at the sleeping form

She looks so peaceful

Another leap and I 'm back in the tree

Morning will come soon

The day will warm

She will wake and we will leave

Night forgotten

But for now I sit

Watching her world from my perch
