Hanky Alert. Janeway at Chakotay's grave.

She walked up and looked down at his grave. It still seemed so surreal. It couldn't be happening...not to them...This couldn't be the way it ended for them. She never got the chance to fulfill everything they promised to one another. They were just that...spoken promises, scattered because of a fatal accident that took him from her forever.

She sat down and caressed his stone, ran her fingers over his grave and finally let the tears fall. She cried and cried onto the earth where his body lie, six feet under. She looked up to the sky and then back down to him, "Chakotay...my darling Chakotay...do you know how badly you hurt me? Even in death, al that happened still pains me. I cry, I cry and cry and cry. I sing to you all the time...wishing you would show me you still care. I asked you if you still loved me in those final days we had together, you said always. That you'd always love me...and then you spoke of your new house with Seven, the one you were looking into buying. With Seven and your daughter. You hurt me, that was meant to be me. Remember all we promised Chakotay?

Do you remember how you said we would have a family together? You and me, for all eternity...Our little children filling our hearts with laughter, do you remember? Why did you do it? Why did you go to her when you knew it was meant to be you and me? You said we were linked...we were...we are, we always will be. I love you, sometimes I still pray that you will come to me, that you still love me. In my dreams you come Chakotay, in my dreams you come home to me. You do...don't you?"

She looked down, tears fresh in her voice, staining her face, crying out all the sorrow and pain she had kept hidden from everyone since the accident.

Nothing made it real for her. Not until now. Not until seeing his grave on the hillside, overlooking the sunset.

She stood up and looked down, wiping the tears from her eyes, "I love you. Please, don't forget that. Someday...someday Chakotay I will put you to rest...but not today."

She pressed a kiss to his stone and turned around and walked away.

AN: This was taken from a journal entry I wrote that followed this storyline down to the dot. This is how I thought I would try and...put it to rest...to write my pain and let it be shown through someone else's eyes. I hope you enjoyed it.
