Darkness Cometh

By Glorfindel's Girl

Author's Note: Originally, I wanted to do this story as a five hundred word vignette.  However, it absolutely refused to be stretch that far, and ended up feeling cluttered and overwritten each time.  So, instead I stripped it down to the bare essentials and put it into exactly 100 words.  And yes, I'm aware that this is slightly AU.  Let me know what you think…

Disclaimer: Everything belongs to Tolkien.  Not making any money.

Burning. Flames consume her, surrounding her, within her, about her. Agony eternal to bear the Light, yet never grasp it. The path, trodden a thousand times over is suddenly too long to travel once more. Her steps falter, and her hands loosen their hold. Slowly, the orb slips through blistered fingers. As the last fruit of Laurelin drops, spirals away, fades like a falling star, so too does she fade, inner fires burning themselves out. Silence covers the sky, and darkness covers the earth. In the beginning, there was the Darkness, and in the end, the Darkness cometh once more.
