Title: Traffic
Summary: ...for a fic this short, there really is no point of a summary, is there?
Warnings: Het. Unusual pairing. Accessory characters who have no personality whatsoever. Extreme brevity.
Notes: Heee... 'tis astonishingly short. I wrote it in about an hour... n.n It's for Dawnshadow's truly random pairings challenge... (She's on Kyoukou Geemu…) I could've probably done a better job, made it longer, but my muses are on vacation or something... ^^;;

The wind stung his exposed arms, but he couldn't put the top down, because he knew his admirers liked to watch the way the wind toyed with his hair. Instead, he concentrated on navigating through traffic, wondering if there were any possible way to lose the car that was "inconspicuously" shadowing his.

Red light.

Well, there went that idea. He could hear the sound of the car behind him also pulling to a stop, and without turning, he knew it would contain giggling girls.

His hand was perched atop the door; his elbow would've been sticking dangerously close to the car beside him if there had been a lane there. Instead, there was only railing, and a brittle-looking tree watching desolately the bustle of activity around it. Poor thing. Maybe he would come back later when nobody was looking (and when, exactly, would that be? Midnight?) and water the poor thing.

The girls were calling for him now. Some called him Otogi-san, some Otogi-kun. One even had the audacity of calling him Ryuuji-kun.

He shuddered.

They would expect him to turn around and wave, of course.

Mustering the cockiest smile he could under the circumstances, he complied, winking in their general direction and flipping his wrist in what he hoped would pass off as a wave. Then, quickly as he could, he turned back around, posture straight but chest heaving.

Oh, how he wished they'd go away!

But, alas, it wasn't to be so. They were giggling even more loudly now. Resisting the urge to massage his temples, he stared fixedly at the traffic light, as if by sheer willpower he might turn it green.

…Please?

Yes! Freedom! He drove as if his life depended upon it, before he screeched to a stop with a silent curse and a strong urge to bang his forehead against his steering wheel. There was another red light.

This time, the girls pulled up in the adjacent lane so he couldn't avoid them. He smiled at them uneasily across the empty seat to his right, trying not to meet any of their gazes.

…Wait, who was that?

His eyes lit upon the driver, propping her chin on her fist and refusing to look his way. Not… Mai? What was she doing in that car? From what he'd seen of her, she was independent, dignified, arrogant… she would never stoop so low as to join them, would she?

As if on cue, the girl sitting behind her began poking her wildly, gesticulating at him as if he were one of the seven wonders of the world incarnate. She rolled her eyes at the other girls, and then turned to him, with an exasperated look in her pretty eyes… Suddenly, she blushed, turning her face away and adamantly refusing to meet his gaze.

They continued to giggle wildly, apparently oblivious to her strange reaction. But she was all that he could see, even with all the other girls practically pleading for his attention.

Suddenly, she snapped her eyes up, relaxed slightly, and drove off hastily, to the other girls' protests. Ryuuji gaped after their car, watching her blonde hair bob in the wind, unable to believe that the light had turned green.
