Disclaimer: I don't own them. That's all I have to say on the matter.
The breeze was gentle, barely causing any waves to form on the water. The sun had just risen, painting the sky pink and orange. It was a picture every master artist would want to capture. Miss Parker stood at the front of the boat, staring at the horizon and rising sun. Her thoughts were only broken into by the sound of the engine.
Sydney had thought it would be a good idea for her to take the day off. He said she had been pushing herself far too hard lately. She needed some peace and relaxation. And what was more relaxing than a boat trip at dawn?
But for Miss Parker, there was no peace. She glanced around at the people mingling on the boat. They were so free. She felt like a caged bird, with no hope of escape. She shuddered though it was warm and turned back to staring at the sea.
"Look! A whale." Someone off to her left cried. She turned just in time to see the animal lift its tail and disappear into the water.
It reappeared moments later with a companion by its side. That's when the dance began. It wasn't what a human would call a dance. It was a dance that belonged only to the creatures of the sea. One of the whales dived, then shot itself straight up into the air. Water droplets cascaded down its body. The morning sun shown on its white flippers, turning them pink with a hint of orange. The whale fell back into the sea with a crash. The sound was like a roll of thunder.
Its companion did the exact same thing seconds later. Jumping into the air, the whale arched its back, entering the water headfirst. As it disappeared beneath the water, it lifted its tail high into the air.
This dance continued for several minutes. Miss Parker watched in awed silence with the other passengers. The only sounds were the ones the whales made and the click of cameras.
Before she wanted it to end, the dance was over. The whales surfaced in unison and then dove into the sea, lifting their tails as if to say "good bye".
After a few minutes of hoping they would reappear, the people got bored and wandered off to the cafeteria and lounge. Miss Parker just moved closer to the railing.
In her mind's eye, she could still see the whales doing their dance. So free. They weren't bogged down with worries and troubles. They were free to do as they pleased and go where they pleased. She sighed. If only her life could be like that. Free from the worries and troubles that so often presented themselves to her.
Turning away from the sea, she was about to head to the lounge, when she heard a blowing sound. Turning back around, she looked down over the railing and was shocked to see an eye looking up at her. The eye belonged to one of the whales that had been dancing earlier.
It looked at her, seeming to be sad as if it pitied her. A low sound came from the whale. Miss Parker just looked at it. The whale repeated the sound. She got the impression that it was trying to talk to her. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, the whale nodded its head and dove.
Its tail came out of the water, allowing Miss Parker to see the color pattern on the underside of it. The pattern was shaped like a dove. Miss Parker gasped, as the whale disappeared under the water. She wanted it to return, so she could make sure she saw what she just thought she had seen.
A dove, the international symbol of peace and freedom. Freedom. Was this a sign? Was her peace and freedom near?
Miss Parker turned away from the sea, feeling more at peace with herself than she had at the beginning of the boat trip.
