A Note from the Author: The places in this belong solely to Robert Jordan,
and I
have no intention of stealing the Wheel of Time from him, simply because I'm a
fan. The characters and the plot are mine and come only from me.
A stranger in dressed in black silk leans back in his chair in a dark corner of The Setting Sun, a medium sized inn located in Cairhien. One his coat collar a silver sword and a strange creature are pinned on opposite sides. The stranger leans forward in his chair and takes a long drink of his ale and his gaze searches the room. In the corner a gleeman is telling a tale about Birgitte Silverbow fighting off a hundred Trollorcs, singled handed. Many drunks listen in awe. His gaze finally falls on the fire inside one of the large fireplaces in the room, and he watches the flames leap from log to log.
Suddenly a cold wind blows in the tavern as the door is opened. A beautiful Domani woman enters and studies the people in the tavern. She wears a large fur-lined cloak, but once she takes it off, it reveals that she is wearing a sky-blue silk dress with a low drooping neckline, showing half her bosom. She spots the Asha'man and walks around the tables, swaying her hips hypnotically. Several men watch her sway with mouths open. She looks at them with a smile as she passes around them.
She arrives at the Asha'man's table she takes a seat."So you must be Gared." She smiles at him, working her Domani charm."My name is Helane." Helane waves a serving girl over and orders a glass of spiced wine. She places a gold Tar Valon mark in the girl's hand.
Gared stares at the woman for a moment before coming to his senses. He watches her as she places the gold coin in the girl's hand. He remembers Morodin saying that he would be meeting a wealthy merchant.
Gared grabs hold of saidin and weaves a barrier agianst eavesdroppers."Our Master said you had a mission for me." Gared says."So what is it?" He leans back in his chair again and takes a long drink of his ale.
The woman studies the Asha'man carefully."Our Master wants you to kill anyone who keeps order for the Dragon Reborn here in Cairhien, mainly Dobraine Taborwin, who is ruling Cairhien while the Dragon Reborn is missing." She says softly."This will hopefully cause the Houses to fight for the Sun thrown." She sips her wine and watches the Friend of the Dark.
Gared looks into the fire and sip his ale. This should be easy. With the Dragon Reborn gone, it should be easy enough to pick him off."I will carry out our Master's plan quickly." He says quietly and leans forward."I must return soon though as not to raise suspicion on myself. I am supposed to be on duty right now."
Helane smiles as she hears the man say he will carry out their Master plan. As if he has a choice if he values his life."Good, I plan on hearing about it soon." She sets her wine glass down and rises from her chair. She grabs her cloak and wraps herself in it."I will see you soon." She says with a smile. Helane walks swaying around the drunks and walks out into the winter night. Once again the drunks sit there, jaws wide open.
Gared watches her leave into the night and smiles. This woman expects to hear of it soon. Whom does she think she is? Gared lets go of saidin and the eavesdropping weave dissipates. He rises from his chair and grabs his black cloak. Smiling and whistling The Pretty Girl, he walks off into the night.
