Lily... gone. Once she was everything to me, and I was everything to her. But then she left me, like a leaf in the autumn wind. After Hogwarts we had drifted apart and she had found a new love, James Potter. Finally, when I thought it could get no worse, she was murdered. And yet, I still remember how it was when we were together, so long ago.
It was my seventh year. I sat in the Slytherin common room on one of the thick leather couches. I was studying potions, my passion. I peered at a clock above the empty fireplace. It was 11:00 and everyone was in bed. It didn't really matter what time it was as no one really cared about me, except Lily.
I left the common room and she was standing outside the door waiting for me as usual with an invisibility cloak, that she had "borrowed" from James Potter, in her arms.
"Follow me!"
And with that we were covered in the cloak and she was pulling me along the corridors. She always reminded me of a sprite. She was a fairy that would pop up in the most convenient places. I couldn't see her and not smile. Inwardly, I still smile at the thought of her blazing red hair and green eyes. Her eyes were always full of life.
She had pulled me into an empty room and removed the cloak that masked us from the world. I leaned in and touched her cheek and slowly our lips met.
She pulled away and whispered to me, "No Severus, I have to show you this first."
She took my hand in hers and lead me to a window. Slowly she opened it. Moonlight spilled into the room illuminating her milky white skin.
I looked at her questioningly.
She just smiled in response and whispered, "Just listen."
I closed my eyes and strained my ears to hear the illusive sound that my Lily was referring to. I heard a soft music, like bells. Then it gradually got louder until I could hear it clearly. I opened my eyes and was amazed to see the room full of fairies.
It was those fairies that Lily reminded me of. Bright red hair and mysteriously wild green eyes and so full of energy, just like Lily.
She stepped closer to me and pulled me into the center of the room, putting her arms on my shoulders.
I slid my arms around her waist and she rested her head softly on my shoulder. We swayed to the music for what seemed like hours, until my Lily slowly began to tire. So I carried her all the way back to Gryffindor tower and up to her room under the safety of the invisibility cloak.
I lied her upon her bed, with crimson bed hangings, and leaned in and kissed her softly on the forehead saying, "I love you Lily, I have always loved you and will love you always."
"I love you too, Severus," was her response.
As I sit in the dungeons grading papers I still remember that night when we danced together to fairy music. That night when I promised to love Lily forever. The last night we had together. The last time she told me she loved me.
