"Whisper sniffed the sea air casually. She wasn't looking for anything in particular. She just liked the smell of it in the early morning, just before the beach became populated by sea life and other ponies.
She was glad that her mom didn't mind her going out to the beach this early, even though, by pony standars she was still very young: Six - 6 and three quaters! she would correct if between hearshot. Besides, unicorns could always keep in touch with each other by telephaty if need be. Her mother was glad about that gift. Whisper not quite, since it meant that as soon as she thought of doing something quite adventurous, a strong and motherly note against it will be in her mind before she could even finish forming the idea.
There were no dreams of adventure this morning, but rather thoughts of wonder. Her gaze fell unto the ever present cloud formation in the far horizon. It held the ever moving form of a dragon holding its head down near the "ground" ready to engulf its next victim. No matter what the weather it was always there. Forever vigilant. Of what? Whisper could not fanthom but Bramer, the only dragon she knew, had told her once to be glad that it was there.
So she was glad for the sake of being glad, the way only young hearts knew.
"Whisper!" someone yelled.
The young pony's ears twitched at the sound of her name. She looked over to her right and saw Earth Thunder running towards her in his own heavy way. He wasn't fat but he was certainly heavy looking. He was an earth pony only a year older than her. Even at this young age, it was very obvious that he was very strong. His slightly oversized hooves thundered (thus his name) when he ran and he could break stones only a little smaller than him with a couple of good back kicks. His colors where only slightly diferent shades of gray, making him look as if he was made of stone, which went perfectly with his gift.
Despite his stony exterior. Earth Thunder was very lighthearted, almost flightly. Whisper liked him because of that. He was fun and didn't talk down to her. She smiled at him a little suprised to see him up so early. If Earth Thunder liked anything with a passion, it was sleeping and it was not unusual to see him snoozing the afternoon away in a shady spot.
"Mornin Thun" Whisper said troting up to meet her friend and already thinking of stuff they could do that beutiful morning before lessons. Earth Thunder stopped as soon as she came into his line of view and turned around.
"C'mon! You got to see this!" he said looking over his shoulder at her. "C'mon, hurry up!"
Whisper tilted her head in confusion. "What?"
"C'mon" repeated the colt and broke into another run. Whisper had seen her friend excited before but this time, it seemed diferent. She couldn't quite place it. Not that it really matter, she ran behind him already excited, as only young hearts can.
