Chapter 2-Generations Collide

Vash the Stampede looked to the gunsmith and slowly rose to his feet. "What?" he said again.

Martin studied his customer with a critical eye. "You mean you didn't know? Boy, you must have lost contact to not know this!" Martin walked to the front of the store and as he grabed his keys to lock up shop, he could hear the loud screams of children running in the opposite direction. His curiousity got the better of him and he looked out his store window.

As Martin pulled back the shades he could see his sister Wolfwood, chasing the neighborhood children with a large stick.

"You idiots! This'll teach you to push me in that damn fountain!" Wolfwood ran furiously at the children. "Now you best hold still! It'll only hurt for a second!" she yelled.

The children on the other hand were laughing up a storm and teasing Wolfwood as she ran after them in a rush.

As Martin pulled back from the window with a small smile on his face he looked back to his customer, Vash The Stampede. "And that would be Wolfwood." He mentioned kindly. "Come on, time for supper." he motioned to the red legend. "I'm sure Aunt Meryl will have a few things on her mind when we get there."

Vash sighed in annoyance, he knew that there will be certain subjects addressed when he walks through the door. Martin knew too well that there would be some sort of confrontation, and he relished in anticipation for it.

As the two stepped out of the building children ran past them, and following in behind, was Wolfwood, the youngest of the six. As she dropped the stick on the ground, she bent down and grabbed her legs huffing and panting from the exercise.

"Ma...huff...tin...i ..huff...swear those kids....are devils.." she panted.

"Oh come off it, those kids take after you." Martin pulled her up to her full height. "They're no worse than us when we were that age."

"...Then your agreeing with me?" She managed a smile under the coat of dirt that piled on her face. Then Wolfwood noticed the man clad in red behind Martin. "Have we met?" She points to Vash.

Martin slaps her hand away, "Monkeys point."

"Well you don't have to be so rude about it." she looked away. "Hey, aren't you the needle noggin that I bumped into earlier!?"

"...Needle...noggin...?" Vash repeated to himself. Then suddenly he was bursting with life at the insult. "I'm not a needle noggin!"

"Well you sure act like one! Maybe you wouldn't be one if ya got a hair cut! or just paid attention to wear you were going!!" Wolfwood took the bait.

Vash smiled in contempt, it was like the old days, his time with their father, Nicolas D. Wolfwood. He could see the same glint that their father had in his daugther's eye.

Grinding her teeth, Wolfwood stood to her full height. Vash was taken aback from her size, for someone of her gender to reach that limit. Martin stood there with his eyes shut, nodding along with his reaction.

Wolfwood wasn't quite as tall as Vash himself, also she wasn't' tall as her mother, but tall none the less.

As the three walked down the dirt troddin road Vash couldn't help but stare at Wolfwood. Wolfwood, having her eyes closed trying to ignore the agrivating stare spoke to Martin.

"Martin, what do you think mom is gonna make tonight?" she put her arms around the back of her head.

Martin, while holding the loaves of bread Wolfwood had bought ignored her question and went on to speaking with Vash. This only made her a bit agitated.
