Summary: A surprise meeting happens at the airport three years after "Loss"

A/N: When I watched "Loss" (10/14/03), this idea just came into my head and wouldn't go away until I wrote it down.  It's bittersweet, but I think it's appropriate.  This is my first SVU fic, though I have another one planned.  Thanks to Faith for betaing, and please be nice and feed an author – review.

"Flight 2006 to LaGuardia Airport is now boarding rows 12-24."  The flight attendants voice echoed over the loudspeaker.  Olivia looked up from the fountain where she was getting a sip of water.  She looked toward the chairs in front of the gate where Elliot was sitting.  He had been reading a magazine but was now putting it away in preparation for boarding.

'I need to get back.  I don't want Elliot worried that we might miss the flight,' Olivia thought, smiling slightly at the though of Elliot in a nervous state.

The two detectives were in Chicago to interview the parents of a rape victim from four years ago.  The case hadn't been solved, and the situations of that rape were very similar to a case they were investigating now, so they were reassessing the details of the first rape in hopes of confirming a connection.  It had been a successful trip – the "new" evidence singled out one particular suspect from the ones the detectives had found.  Hopefully a confession would be given in a few days, and Casey would have an easy trial.  For once, their job seemed almost easy.  It was as if they had won a case.

Olivia started to walk to her gate when she heard a voice that she recognized.  She turned her head and for a second didn't see anyone she knew.  But then she saw a woman with short, styled blond hair, not unlike her own.  The woman turned her head toward Olivia, almost as if by chance.  Dark brown eyes met crystal blue ones, and they both had to take a small double take.

'Alex!' Olivia thought.  She took a step to go greet her but then realized what she was doing and stopped.  Alex's slight change in expression showed she wanted to do the same, but knew that they both understood the grievous circumstances.  Though they only watched each other for a second, a million different emotions traveled across their gaze, burning each other with the shared happiness, relief, sorrow, understanding, and friendship.

Alex's traveling partner turned toward Olivia also.  He saw them looking at each other, and his brow wrinkled in confusion.

"Kelly?  Who's she?"  He said.  He was tall, muscular, and had wavy brown hair.  Olivia concentrated hard to try to hear what was being said.

Alex tore her gaze away from Olivia, who looked at the floor, and replied, "Hmm?  Oh, no one.  I thought I recognized her from high school…"

"Ah.  Well, we should get going.  We don't want to miss our plane," he said and started to walk away.

"Yeah…" Alex responded absentmindedly.  As she started to follow the man, she turned her head to look at Olivia one last time.  Olivia smiled at her and Alex smiled back before she turned around.  They both knew what Olivia meant by that smile – "Got a boyfriend now, Alex?  Congrats."

Olivia walked toward Elliot, who handed her a suitcase, glanced up to where she'd been standing, and asked, "Who was that?"

Olivia glanced one more to where the blond head was just blending into the crowd and replied, "No one.  She looked like someone from high school."

Elliot nodded, not giving it a second thought, picked up his bag and headed toward the gate.  As both women got on their separate planes to take them back to their now separate lives, they both felt different.  They were reassured, and thought they wished things had turned out differently, they felt happily peaceful.
