Author Notes: thoughts

She rested her head lightly on my shoulder, her dark eyes looking up at me trying to figure out my thoughts. It's times like this I bet that she wished her power wasn't so specialized. I send her a warm smile and hope it calms her mind. It appears to; as she let her body flop back unto the bed, smiling back at me all the while.

I remained sitting on the edge of the bed. I was letting myself be pulled into my thoughts, ones I had long considered silenced. Amazing what a kiss can do. Okay, and everything we did after the kiss probably was involved as well. Either way, I'm letting myself get pulled away from the moment. I need to treasure this. I'm only going to work myself into worry.

I spun around to begin crawling back to her, but she'd already slipped back to sleep. I shrugged and crawled back anyhow; curling up next to her. We'd both chose this; not just each other, but a life away from the X-Men. Even then, we still had so much fighting to do. But now is a time of calm, I reminded myself and wondered why I wanted to fight it. I could only blame it on old habits hanging on for dear life.

I repositioned myself so I lightly pressed against her as much as possible. She stirred from my movement, her hair falling over both our faces, and she let out a snort. I stifled one of my own, along with a laugh. Carefully, I brushed her hair back. I looked at her a minute more before I began to shut my eyes. Only, as if on cue, I heard a crash from outside the bedroom.

I quickly made my way out of the bed and to the door, phasing through it and ready to attack. After all the commotion here in Chicago not that long ago, I was afraid it was another Sentinel. Thankfully, I walked into the living room to find Nga trying to pick up a shattered glass. Leong jumped up from the couch and asked, "Did we wake you, Aunt Kitty?" Shaking my head "no", I relaxed and smiled. I leaned back into Shan's bedroom to find her still asleep. I sighed and started cleaning up the glass before one of the twins cut themselves.
