The cold kills
Dirt sprayed all over the fresh snow
The great snowy white beauty
Cut apart by the pavement
Signs shoot out of its smooth body
Like spikes out of hell
I step out of our rented car
The cold surmounts me
And I can't breathe
My lips turn blue within an hour
I can't feel the lower half of my body
And it's hard to see
Now half covered with snow
The overpass becomes my newest friend,
The passing cars awake me
From my soon coming sleep
Things start to fade
I see a forest greeted with snow
Then things go black
And passing cars awake me
And I see the fog setting
I can see my breath
Slow and subtle
But still there
My fingers are numb
My open chest is turning blue
My shoes are no longer visible
And I can feel my hair freezing
The cracks on the wall above me
Remind me of my heart
Broken, and cracked
Half gone, and frozen.
A sigh of relief
Frees me from this world
Now my body blends with the snow
Pure white
And cold.
