Light and Shadow

A/N: I do NOT own X-Men: Evolution or Cloak and Dagger. For those of you who don't remember C&D, it was an (I believe) '80's comic series about two super-powered people, one with a Cloak of Darkness, the other with Blades of Light (the effects of both of these 'traits' will be discussed in the story). Enjoy.

The girl stood on the street-corner in Hell's Kitchen, one of New York's 'seedier' areas. Why was she here? She couldn't remember. All she remembered was the faces, the horrible, distorted faces. And the pain. Then nothing.

A few feet away, she heard a sound. She looked over to where it came from, and saw movement. It looked like shadows, but then it turned to face her. She saw its face, and screamed in terror. "Wh-what are you...? Leave me alone!"

The thing that had frightened her spoke. "What am I? I know you ain't jus 'imply' I ain't human, little girl."

She shook her haid rapidly, part in fear that the thing would kill her if she said yes, and part in an attemp to clear her head. That was when she saw the humanity...and the familiarity...in his face. "I...I know you.... We saw each other before...didn't we...?"

The man she had thought at first was not human nodded his head. "Yea, I think so. Can't remember where.... That's it! Them punks killed my brother, an took me! I guess they got you, too. I'm Ty. Tyson Briggs. You got a name, girl?"

iMy,,,name..../i She thought, trying to remember. "T...Tandy. Tandy Bowen." She laughed a bit.

"Sumthin funny, Miss Bowen?" Ty said, adding a sarcastic emphasis on her name.

"N-no...*haha* Just...we have the same initials...we're both TB...."

"Hehe...yea...kinda strange coincidence, huh? Hehe...HAHAHA!" He laughed, though Tandy could tell by what remained human of his face that he was only laughing to avoid crying. He had seen his face in the dirty window behind Tandy, seen the darkness radiating from him, and the light she projected. The tears began. "T..Tandy...what the hell...are we...?"

She turned, and looked in the window herself, only to see the same thing he had seen. In fear, she waved her hand at the window as if to wave away the vision. What she didn't expect, however, was for three blades of pure light to fly from her hand, shattering the window. "Wh...what the hell...just happened...?"

END CHAPTER 1

A/N: Well, what did you think? Off to a pretty good start? As always, remember, more reviews means more criticism, more criticism means more advice, more advice means more ideas, more ideas means more inspiration, more inspiration means more chapters! Also, X-Men: Evolution elements such as Bayville, the X-Men and the Brotherhood, etc, will come into play within the next few chapters.
