Alice Laura Dumbledore awoke to the sound of soft fluttering wings on her open window. She groggily opened her eyes and blinked. She suddenly sat up, fully awake. There was an owl perched on her window, its beak clutching a parchment envelope. She goggled at it. Slowly getting up, she tiptoed over to the window, blinking quickly, as if the owl was a dream about to disappear at any moment. The owl hooted impatiently. She jolted and walked faster. Now she was standing in front of the owl, a faltering hand reaching to pat it's head. It jumped irritably and stuck its beak out towards her, as if ordering her to seize the envelope. Alice's eyes drifted to the envelope. Written in green ink, were the flowing words:

Alice Dumbledore

The immensely large room at the end of the hallway

18 Burlway Avenue

London

As she goggled at it, the owl flew away with an indignant hoot, its tawny wings soaring away into the sky.

Realization exploded within her. Could it be....??

"MUUUUMMY!!" Alice screamed, her voice cracking. (They were, after all, the first words of the day.)

Alice cleared her throat and grabbed her fluffy periwinkle robe in her left hand, the envelope clutched in the right. She bloted down the stairs, skipping every other step. She clawed the wall and spun around the corner. "Mummy!!" she panted again. "Mummy!! Mummy, look!"

It was not her mother in her usual pink bathrobe who turned around, but a tall, older man with a long silver beard. It was Albus Dumbledore.

Oh, hello Uncle!" Alice panted.

Uncle Albus smiled. His blue eyes twinkled as he caught sight of her parchment letter.

"Ah!" he said good-naturedly. "Is that what I presume it is?" he leaned in, as if telling her a secret. "Your Hogwarts letter?"
