Kagome waited for just the right moment. As her mother turned her back to the girl so she could nurse her screaming little brother, she took off into the more secluded part of the park. She loved the trees, and the animals that hid out where the forest was. She followed the small worn path to her favourite tree, but was surprised to find someone else sitting there in front of its trunk.
"Hi!" she said happily, smiling at him.
He turned to look at her, and she gasped. He had long white hair, and bright golden eyes. He had a hat on, but it didn't shade his eyes enough to where she couldn't see the amber sparkles.
"Wow...who are you? I'm Kagome. You're at my tree. You like it too? It talks to me sometimes. Lots of things talk to me. I talk to lots of things. What about you?"
He grinned at her, "You know, you'll never change."
He got up, and walked away, but she ran after him.
"Wait! Here!" she said, once she caught up with him. She handed him her white dog plushie, the one she cherished more than anything, and smiled.
"Give it back to me when we see each other again."
She ran back to her mother, who'd just discovered her missing, and left him in awe.

He opened the door to the apartment they were renting for now.
"Kagome?" he called, as she shut the door quietly, so he wouldn't wake the baby.
His mate appeared from the kitchen, a plate balanced on one hand and a baby on her hip. Inu-Yasha grabbed the plate from her hand, replacing it with the toy, and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"You know, I didn't think it was possible, but you really have always talked too much."
Kagome looked at the toy, as memories of her childhood flooded her. She shook her head, grinning, and followed her mate into the kitchen.

Okay. First off, if you've read some of my other stories, you know about the plushie. But if not, go read them. And that's not really a plug, unless you do it, and then, whee! But it's not shameless. Aha!
Secondly, I must admit, I have a rant. One that has been building up inside of me for almost four years as fanfiction and the authors who write it have slowly decayed into something that disgusts me.
You'll also find this rant in my profile, and on my status site (along with another one or two).
I guess you can say I'm one of the good guys. I come from the waaay backs of Digimon fanfiction, which means I still carry with me the ideals of the great ones. The authors that were not elitist bitches.
This craft has gone to ruins. some of you may not know who you are - you're too good to be spoken badly of. Others know right now, because you only think about yourself. But you are out there, and this is about you. The reader is a gift, not a curse.
You write for yourself. Fine. But you upload, you publish, you do all of this for the READERS. And don't you dare forget it. They make us, and we make their stories.
The majority of 'good' authors, frankly, make me sick. Readers are our most precious gift! I've been talking with some of the non-bitch authors, and we agree. I can't understand why you'd even continue to read a story by an author that doesn't appreciate you. There's good fanfiction out there, and you don't need to be condemned, made fun of, ignored, and treated like shit to get it.
You guys are part of a give and take relationship. And it takes a little from both sides. Without them, you'd be without their story, but without you, they'd be without readers.
When it comes down to it, one author against the reading community is insignificant. Stand up for yourselves guys. Don't let them treat you the way they are.
