I would like to thank you for coming here

Generous guest of my inn

I so appreciate your patronage

Buying a little whiskey

A little rum, a little meal to eat

And a room with a soft bed for the night.

It can get so lonely here

When my darling husband is away long

And good guests can be so few

I take such pleasure in your company

Would you like another glass?

It can be so hard for a dark woman

Like me to make a living

Are you really giving me such a tip?

Sir, my gratitude is yours!

Look that way, out the window at the sea

Endless and sparkling like jewels

Let me get you another shot of rum

If you will listen to me

It's nice to have someone hear my stories

The sad struggle of my life

On the docks of the sea, working this inn

But I know it will soon end

I have this small dream you might find foolish

Where we've plenty of money

My husband and me, and a life of fun

Bought by some dishonesty

Of course it is well-deserved, you mock me!

And I'll sell this little inn

And you and me will never talk again

Which is why we must so now

For life is very rough, here near the ports

And life is for those who dare

So take another sip of my good gin

And I'll flatter you some more.
