The First Meeting

I remember...

That fateful morning...

On that fateful day...

A small girl with dark hair tied into pigtails hurried across the mud paths of the main streets of Tokyo. It had just rained and everything was wet and muddy. The young girl's pink kimono was splattered with debris, making it ugly. She huffed and puffed as she ran. There were three boys, all about the age of twelve chasing her, laughing in their villainous glee.

"Hey Kaoru baby, come here! We wanna make you bleed!" One of the boys shouted over to her. She was on the verge of tears. Then, unfortunately, she slipped on the soft mushy ground, and landed in the mud, her whole body almost covered.

The boys howled with laughter and proceeded to reach her. When they did, they started to amuse themselves with putting their feet on her head and shoving it into the Earth. She screamed and burst into tears on the spot. With every mouthful of mud she received, the boys grinned and laughed even more.

"STOP IT!" the little girl named Kaoru screamed, trying not to cry; yet it was too late. Her tears flooded out of her eyes like a waterfall. One of the boys got ready to kick her when-

"You will stop what you are doing and leave the girl alone," came a calm voice from behind them. They all turned around to face a boy of about 15 years. He had fiery orange hair tied into a tight ponytail at the top of his head. His sparkly blue eyes flashed with danger. The boys stepped back.

"C'mon...we were just playing with her..." two of them started, but were cut off by a death like glare from the mysterious boy. Kaoru's tears stopped suddenly.

"Ok...see ya!" They called as they ran away. The boy looked down at Kaoru and smiled gently. "Are...are you alright young one?"

"Yes..." she said quietly. He bent down and helped her up.

"Try not to get into any more trouble, okay?" He asked, warmness in his eyes. Kaoru blinked and replied, "O-of course! Uh...what's your name?" The boy replied, "Ken- I mean Shinta..." Kaoru smiled and thanked him. She trotted off towards her house.

The boy looked on in total calmness. A wind blew by, and when it passed, the boy was gone...
