DISCLAIMER: I don't own Stargate or any of the characters and I'm not getting paid for this, so please don't sue me.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: This was partly inspired by a sentence that my beta and I read in our Physics textbook. We could just picture Jack's reaction to Sam babbling about it at him. Anyway, please read and review!

"Whatcha doing?" He asked her.
She looked up from her device that was measuring… something and smiled. Around her was a hive of activity, several technicians bustling about, adjusting equipment.
"Well sir, we've discovered the device is emitting some form of electromagnetic wave, so we're testing for constructive superposition along a line equidistant from the two sources…"
His eyes glazed over. She was doing it again. She'd lost him at 'electromagnetic'. He'd stop her eventually, ask her to explain it in English please, but…. it was just that she was so involved, so animated in her explanation. Her entire face was lit up, her demeanour alight with enthusiasm. She was… glowing. He liked seeing her happy. And this was when she seemed happiest, involved in her work, excited about some new discovery.
It must be tough for her, he realised, for no one to properly understand what she was going on about - to not fully appreciate her work, her excitement.
There was Daniel, and he took an interest at least, but he didn't understand either. Not really. His forte was old stuff, not the new cutting edge of science. And none of the other scientists were really up to her level.
She gesticulated wildly with her hands, causing Jack to remember an apparently useless snippet of information to do with the more you gesticulate when you talk to someone, the more likely they are to remember what you say. He wondered if that was why she did it. So that people would at least remember, even if they didn't understand.
It was the least he could do, to sit here and listen to her babble, to nod and smile even though he had no idea what she was going on about.
She would realise eventually, and blush, and apologise. But why should she apologise? He loved to watch this side of her - her intelligence shining out like a beacon, excitement radiating from her… It was kind of infectious.
Like he said, he'd stop her eventually.
But not yet.
