Nobody will understand
The morning sun broke through the window, illuminating the room of Sakura Kinomoto. A month had passed since she had confessed her feelings for her best friend Tomoyo, who in turn, revealed that she too felt the same.
It was weird for them both though. Still being only thirteen years old, everything was new to them. They had both been brought up like any other child, under the belief the boys liked girls and girls liked boys. When they realised that love could be shared between two boys or two girls though, things changed.
The truth is, they had always been in love. A bond shared since they were very young had grown and blossomed into the feelings they now shared so closely with each other that they treasured every moment spent together.
However, this new step in their relationship was a complete secret to those around them. Only when the subject of telling their parents arose did problems start to show…
Sakura was spending the night at Tomoyo's house again as she often did, sharing a bed with her new lover. Nobody saw a problem with this as they were such close friends, but over the past month the two had started to hold each other while they slept.
As they lay in Tomoyo's giant bed waiting to drift off to sleep, Sakura brought up the subject of telling people.
"Tomoyo-chan…" she whispered, her voice low and soft,
"What is it?" came the reply from the girl holding her gently from behind, a hint of tiredness yet contentment in her voice.
"I, um…I think… I think we should tell our parents about…us."
The gentle hold that Tomoyo had on her girlfriend suddenly tightened at hearing this, causing Sakura to gasp for breath.
Realising the tight grip she had, Tomoyo loosened her arms from around the girl in front of her and sat up, switching on the lamp next to the bed.
"Sorry Sakura-chan"
"It's nothing," replied Sakura, regaining her breath and rolling over to look at her, "are you OK?"
"I'm…I'm fine. It's just, are you sure it's a good idea at the moment? I mean, we're only thirteen." She paused, "I doubt our parents would even believe that we truly love each other."
"But I don't care whether they believe us or not, I just want them to know."
"I understand but, would they really accept us? I mean, it's not normal is it? Two girls together"
"I don't care about being normal either. I just care about us." Replied Sakura, a tear slowly rolling down her cheek.
Tomoyo saw this, and wanting to lift her girlfriends spirits, she leaned in and kissed Sakura gently on the lips.
"How about we sleep on the idea?" she said with a warm smile, almost as if saying 'yes, we'll tell them soon'.
Turning off the light, Tomoyo sank back down into the bed, placing her arm over Sakura who did the same. The two girls then slowly drifted off into sleep as they held each other close.
The next day, Sakura awoke to see Tomoyo staring at her, still in the same position from the night before. It was late, around 11:30 in the morning. Tomoyo smiled,
"My Sakura-chan awakens then," she said, kissing her on the cheek. Sakura stretched out and yawned.
"What time is it?" she asked. Tomoyo thought for a minute.
"I'd say it's around eleven thirty. You looked so peaceful I just couldn't disturb you."
Sakura pulled her close for a hug, before sitting up and looking over at the window.
"So, Tomoyo-chan, did you put any more thought to what we talked about last night?" she asked. Tomoyo sighed,
"You have to believe that it's not easy for me Sakura, it's not easy for either of us, but I've decided that if you think we should, then yes, we'll tell our parents." Sakura turned around immediately and looked at the girl in front of her before pulling her into a warm, loving hug and whispering,
"Tomoyo-chan, you're the greatest."
