Ch 1- A Balcony View

Rohan/ Edoras:

Remus stood outside on the balcony of his room at the Golden Hall of Edoras. He loved it there; everything about it, everything except that nasty drink Gandalf kept giving him.

Ever since Gandalf had taken the sleeping spell off him, Gandalf had given him a foul-smelling and tasting drink that gave off a puce-colored steam.

"I will ask him why he keeps giving me that drink or potion, rather." Maybe, he thought, maybe something is wrong with me.

He heard the door in his room open, footsteps across the room, and then footsteps from his room to the balcony. He knew who it was.

"Eowyn," he said, not bothering to look. Eowyn smiled at the back of his head and came to stand next to him, looking out from the balcony over Rohan.

"I love this view," Eowyn said, feeling awkward. Only one other person had made her feel the way she did now, and that person had been Farramir. Remus looked at her and smiled. He liked talking to her. She wasn't like a lot of the woman in Rohan. She had something to say about everything.

It had been a month since that day Aranel had come back from their old world to stay. Aranel and Legolas were to get married at the next full moon, and for reasons unknown to him, Remus had not been invited. Eowyn was to be Aranel's maid of honor, since they were best friends, no matter their difference in age. Eomer, Eowyn's brother and king of Rohan, was going to be Legolas's best man.

"Yes, it is breathtaking," Remus said, sincerely, taking in the fresh air. Eowyn looked up at him and smiled, making Remus's heart skip a beat. Eowyn frowned.

"What is it, Remus," she asked as Remus frowned. "Are you hurt? Are you sick?" Remus grinned.

"No, Lady Eowyn," he said, "I'm fine." Eowyn smiled and nodded. She looked out at the lake in the distance.

"Would you like to picnic with me by that lake," she asked Remus. He nodded and went back into his room. Eowyn left to get the food and horses ready.

Remus sat on his bed, wondering why he was feeling this way about Eowyn. He'd never felt like this for anyone, as far as he remembered. Was this. could this be. could he be falling in love with her?

No, was his answer. No, he couldn't be. He'd know for sure if he was, but then again he'd never been in love before. He shook his head, got dressed for riding, and met Eowyn at the stables. He'd deal with his feelings for Eowyn later.
