E'en Flames…
By Songwind
DISCLAIMER- I don't own any works written by David Eddings. Hopefully you've figured that out.
Notes- This is an angsty poem that doesn't make much sense, I'm afraid. It's about the time when Garion burns Asharak to death. Please enjoy. ^^;
E'en the gentlest of souls
Can lose their heart to fire
Where a desire shall burn
Until their hatred is destroyed;
Or until it
Destroys men.
E'en the most sensible of men
Can lose the compassion of their souls
When their hearts are lost in fire;
An opportunity to burn
He who destroyed
The sensible one's past, or what's left of it.
E'en to those who watch it
With a horrid fascination, these men
Can't stop their comrade, whose soul
Flares to life and anger, the fire
Of hatred shall burn,
Until the hated one is only ashes; destroyed.
E'en he who is destroyed
Cannot help it;
He is in awe of these men,
And the Godslayer, the very soul
Who shall defeat his people, by fire
Or ice, whatever pleases him; the Godslayer will make his enemies burn.
E'en though his anger is gone, burnt,
The Godslayer knows he destroyed
A life, and cannot stand it.
Sickened, he falls back to his men
And seeks comforting for his soul,
As the ashes continue to crackle in their fire.
E'en though the skies become red as the fire
The Godslayer feels the dying man's burns
And lo, though he has destroyed
He who murdered for centuries, it
Is too much to bear, for him or his men.
He cries to his family and begs forgiveness of his soul.
E'en the souls, gentlest forged from the fires,
Can lose the fire they need to burn-
No, douse their wish of destruction, to save all of men.

Wow, that was special and had no point. I hope you enjoyed this.
