The Laughing Fool
She stared at her reflection in the mirror. She attempted to smile as she wiped away the tears. She was heartbroken, she wanted to die. She burst out laughing, laughing as him, laughing at herself, people always said she laughed at the wrong times. He had fooled her and she had fooled herself. She actually believed that Harry had liked her in that way. The way Ron liked Lavender, she though they could be a couple, cuddling in front of the fire, walking down the corridor holding hands. Now she knew it was just wishful thinking, nothing but unrealistic hope. Oh, but why couldn't he like her, she wondered, why couldn't some guy pay attention to her? Ever since Victor left she was alone and single, hoping beyond hope that Harry felt something for her.
He had told her he had a secret, something he was not comfortable telling her. She was so sure that his secret was his feelings for her. She had prompted him, finally he had admitted he liked someone but refused to tell her who. Being the optimist she was, she thought he meant her, so she met him in the Astronomy Tower the next day like he requested.

" Harry, where are you?" she asked tentatively, closing the door of the astronomy tower behind her.
" Over here mione," Harry called from the corner were he sat smiling at her " There is something you should know, if you haven't already guessed it, but I am not sure how to tell you." Harry looked ashamed and worried
" I think I know what it is Harry, or more like who it is that you like…." She smiled at him before adding "…and I don't mind." Relief washed over Harry's face and he looked at the empty spot next to him.
" Draco, you can come out now, she knows." Harry told the blonde boy who removed the invisibility cloak he was wearing. Hermione quickly wiped the look of shock and horror off her face.
"Harry is GAY….." she thought to herself, "…..and he's with Malfoy!!!." Her mind was going crazy. "This is not happening," She again thought, " Harry is suppose to say how much he loves ME and how he wants us to be together forever, not him and Malfoy." She stared blindly as the boys embraced and Harry looked at her for confirmation, she smiled as best she could.
" I am so glad it is out in the open now, Ron has known for ages, but I only just got up the nerve to tell you, Ron thought you'd already figure it out, you should have told me if you already knew, mione?." Harry queried her.
" I thought it was best to let you tell me in your own time. Anyway I better go and am in the middle of our potion's essay. Thanks for finally confiding in me Harry, goodbye." Hermione left, bursting into tears as she shut the Astronomy Tower door.
~~~~~~~~ Flashback~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He could have told her before now, she was left alone, no chance of being with the one person in the world she wanted to be with more than anyone else. She was a fool. As she glanced in the mirror again, she was no longer crying, she was no longer laughing, she looked like plain old 'Mione'. She stared at the sharp razor in her hand.
" I am a fool," she whispered as she slid the blade across her wrist. Her screams of pain were heard by many people throughout Gryffindorr Tower, maybe even by the lovers still embracing in the Astronomy Tower, but the most chilling sound that could be heard was the sound of a hollow laugh which was full of spite, pain and anger. As the life left her body, the people banging on the locked bathroom door heard her whisper…. "I am a fool."
