Verge of Death

Miroku sighed as Kagome announced the presense of a Shikon shard. She, as usual, borded Inu Yasha's back. Sango on Kirara's and they were off. Miroku was exhausted from the previous day's battle. His legs wouldn't run so he simply followed as he held onto his staff for support.

Sango looked back and noticed Miroku. He looked as though he could fall over at any second.

"Kirara, turn back around."

Kirara did as she commanded. Sango slid off and started to walk toward Miroku.

"Houshi-sa-"

Sango leapt forward as Miroku collapsed.

"Houshi-sama, that's not funny," she said annoyingly setting her free hand on her hip while holding Hiraikotsu in the other. When he didn't respond she set Hiraikotsu down and knelt next to him.

"Houshi-sama?" she shook him gently turning him over. She gasped pulling her hands away from his ghost white skin.

"Houshi-sama!"

Miroku weakly opened his eyes. Sango sighed releaved as his color returned. She grabbed his arm wrapping it around her neck. Miroku stumbled to his feet trying to stand. Sango let out a squeak of embarrasement as he leaned against her.

"K-Kirara," she called to the cat demon. Kirara come over and Sango pulled Miroku onto it. She set herself in front of him and motioned for Kirara to continue. She glanced at him every few minutes but only worry filled her as his color died away slowly again.

She jumped again in surprise as he laid his cheek against her back. She turned around to shove him off but stopped as fear sweapt over like a cold blanket. His face had small beads of sweat going down it. His breathing was short, raspy, and he was wheezing heavily.

"Kagome-chan!" she more than shrieked her friends name out as she stopped Kirara. Inu Yasha stopped making dust go everywhere. With speed that anyone could swear could only belong to Kouga or Sesshomaru he rushed over to Sango. Kagome slid off her back as Miroku grunted starting to fall to the side. Sango caught him hauling him back up.

"Kagome-chan, wh-what's wrong with him? He-he just started acting sick!"

Kagome set her hand against his forehead but quickly pulled it away.

"Sango, did you treat his wound after the battle with that snake?"

Sango shook her head. "He said he was fine and it was only a scratch. He wouldn't let me touch him. I-I was worried, but he...he just said he was fine."

Kagome nodded her head. "Figures, stubborn for once."

Sango set him straight on Kirara and got back on as Inu Yasha lead back off and they headed for the nearest village.
